This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was first registered in Oregon and shows just 84k miles from new. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather (261), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. This R129 comes fully equipped including a panorama glass roof, multicontour heated front seats, ADS suspension, AMG wheels and body styling, and xenon headlights. The current owner conducted extensive maintenance within the past year including an oil and oil filter change, complete fluid flush of all systems, hydraulic top cylinder rebuild, new vacuum hoses and a new set of Michelin tires. The exterior is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features AMG body styling with a sculpted front air dam, side skirts and rear apron. The black soft top is fully power operated and the paint-matched removable hardtop features the optional tinted glass panorama roof. Staggered 18” AMG monoblock wheels wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 245/40 front and 275/35 rear and were fitted in 2022 by the current owner. The optional Adaptive Damping System offers continuously adjusted damping with adjustable ride height and stiffness. The ADS fluid was replaced recently by the current owner.
This R129 is powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 which is factory rated at 315 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque and power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. Recent service in 2022 included an engine oil and oil filter change, a brake fluid flush, transmission fluid flush and new vacuum hoses. The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates from new along with a long history of reported service records with no accidents or damage reports shown. Hello everyone, I am happy to present this incredible R129. Most collectors would say this is the ultimate spec for the R129 SL500 as it is equipped with every single option available and being the final year to include the higher output M119 V8 with dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. Not to mention the iconic Mercedes color combination of brilliant silver over black. The 1999 model year introduced the M113 V8 which made less power, was only single overhead cam, and was subject to Chrysler cost cutting. The R129 SL500 is a 1990's icon being featured in many movies, music videos, and plenty of celebrity fleets including Lady Diana herself. Many collectors of these cars today are drawn to the timeless Bruno Sacco design. Bruno Sacco claimed the R129 to be the masterpiece of his lifetime. What is incredible about this particular 1998 SL500 is how rare, well kept, and original it is. Completely rust free, original paint confirmed by paint meter readings, and all original glass and soft top windows. As seen in the driving video, this car is performing entirely as it should. I strongly suggest watching the entire video as it exhibits everything from the soft top operation to the auto leveling xenon headlamps.
