This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL received a frame-off cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 2000 and subsequently moved into a museum collection until 2015 when it was purchased by the current seller for their collection. The car has been started and ran regularly while being kept in climate controlled storage by both the previous owner and current seller. This example is finished in Fire Engine Red (534) over a Parchment Leather (265) cabin and accented with a Black soft top and unrestored black hard top. Power comes from a 1.9-liter M121 four-cylinder paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. Features include paint matched hub caps, a paint matched dashboard, restored brightwork, an original tool kit, and a matching spare tire. The odometer displays 1,404 miles and was reset upon completing the comprehensive restoration. This 190SL is offered by the selling dealer with two keys, service records, and a clean Georgia title.
While the original documented color of this 190SL is Strawberry Red Poly (543) the bodywork was refinished in Fire Engine Red (534) during the major restoration in 2000. All the brightwork was removed and refinished as well and shows no signs of fading or other damage. The black Haartz soft top was replaced as well and displays nicely with no tears visible and retains a clear back window. A couple small snags are noted in the soft top along the ribbing. Features include chrome stone guards, a driver's side mirror, and a black removable hardtop.
13″ steel wheels with paint matched wheel covers measure 13x5 on all four corners and are shown with Goodyear Arriva white wall tires measuring 185/80. A body-colored original full-size spare wheel and tire are shown in the trunk along with the original toolkit.
The cabin is trimmed in Parchment Leather (265) across the seats, door cards, parcel shelf, and soft top boot. The leather seats were recovered at the time of the restoration and show light creases from varied use since the restoration. The paint-matched dashboard displays refinished brightwork for the switchgear and accents while the original ivory steering wheel and shift knob remain in place. The Parchment soft top boot shows some light creasing and cracks along the rear edges as seen in the gallery. The removable hardtop features a parchment headliner that has not been restored and shows some light staining. Refinished carpets are shown in Parchment with leather outer piping across the floor boards and parcel shelf.
The dual spoke ivory steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The odometer displays 1,404 miles and was reset at the time of the restoration.
The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four was rated for 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque when new and features a single overhead camshaft along with dual side-draft carburetors. In preparation for the sale, the 190SL has received a complete tune up including carburetors, a complete fluid flush, and filter change.
This 190SL is offered by the selling dealer with two keys, a removable hardtop and stand, service records, and a clean Georgia title. Additional underbody photos are viewable in the gallery.
A walk around video highlighting both the exterior and interior has been provided below.
