This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL was originally leased by Andy Trotter Mercedes-Benz of Chattanooga, Tennessee and subsequently purchased out of lease by the lessee in 1995. The current owner and seller bought the SL in 2013 with 65k on the odometer from the first owner in Atlanta, Georgia and has added 6k miles since purchasing. The car is finished in Nautical Blue Metallic (929) over a Gray Leather (278) interior and powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Maintenance has been performed by Blue Ridge MB outside of Atlanta and has received a complete tune up under the current owners care including plugs, accumulators, filters, and fluids. Features include a removable paint-matched original hardtop, an upgraded head unit and the original Becker head unit, air conditioning with automatic climate control, a navy blue soft top, and custom blue and gray Cocomats. This example is now offered by the current owner in Atlanta, Georgia with 71,303 miles on the odometer, service records, a fresh inspection, factory literature, an original tool kit, first aid kit, one key, both top keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title.
The body is finished in Nautical Blue Metallic (929) and features original body panels accented by a gray pinstripe. Exterior features include a retractable navy soft top, chrome mirror caps, North American-spec headlamps and bumpers, and front fog lamps. The original paint-matched hardtop is included and features original glass with rear defrost. All glass is original and the windshield has Llumar Air 80 film for heat reduction. The exterior shows straight body panels and the paint shows signs of fading around the car. Rock chips are visible on the nose and paint chips along the edges of the doors. Areas around the top anchor hole show blemishes as well. The factory brightwork shines nicely and doesn’t show pitting. The original dealer badge from the selling dealer can be seen on the decklid. Detailed photos of the exterior can be seen in the gallery.
This 560SL wears original silver-painted 15x7” Gullideckel wheels wrapped in Michelin tires measuring 205/65 on all four corners. The tires show 2015 date codes and the wheels show fading paint with no curb rash.
The cabin is upholstered in Gray Leather (278) across the seats, door cards, armrest, head rests, and lower dashboard. The dashboard shows cracks in the upper center portion nearest to the windshield. The burl wood trim shows a single hairline crack near the mirror adjustment knob on the lower portion. The cabin displays original gray carpets along with navy blue and gray Cocomats for the footwells. Interior features include converted R134 factory air conditioning with automatic climate control, a power antenna, an aftermarket head unit with Bluetooth and auxiliary capabilities, and flip-down visors with vanity mirrors. The original Becker head unit will be included in the sale. A factory first aid kit can be seen mounted behind the passenger seat.
The digital odometer shows 71,303 original miles. Instrumentation includes VDO gauges featuring a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and an analog odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, fuel economy, and an analog clock. The gauges are trimmed with chrome rings and feature electronic warning lights along the base of the cluster, none of which are illuminated.
The 5.5-liter M117 V8 was rated at 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired to a 722.3 automatic four-speed transmission. This 560SL has been maintained by Blue Ridge MB outside of Atlanta, Georgia and has received a complete tune up under the current owners care including plugs, accumulators, filters, and fluids. A walk-around video has been provided below.
While the R107 continues to solidify its legendary status among a lineage of SL's, R107's in above average mechanical condition are becoming tougher to find than ever. As a two-owner example, this car carries traceable lineage from an enthusiast owner. Notably, we've had the unique opportunity to spend time around this car as it's offered for sale and while a couple cosmetic features keep it from being a condition 1 example, this car is in its prime mechanically and possibly the strongest it's been since new. Pair the strength of this example with the rare and alluring color combination and it's an instant classic.

@SeikoPsycho thank you for that! This car's been like a family member over the years and I like to think it's received the attention it deserves. As we near the final hours of the auction, let me know if any lingering questions are floating around. Thanks to all!

@johnblee Kudos to you for the diligent service on this over the years. I'd be proud to carry this one on for you.
@blueskyAero Glad to have this conversation about the rarity of the nautical blue metallic (929) over gray color combination in this 1987 560sl. There are no color based production numbers that I could find. I have recently heard and seen comments, though, regarding the rarity of the nautical blue metallic color in the 1987 560sl that resulted in significant sales price premiums. I am in no position to try to quantify those premiums; maybe you have more expertise than me and will be more successful than I was!

Great looking example. I seem remember a conversation about rarity of colors recently. @johnblee, any insights to production numbers around the color?
