This 1997 Mercedes-Benz G36 AMG was first sold in the Japanese market before being imported into the United States in 2023. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Black Leather, power is provided by an AMG-modified 3.6-liter inline-six engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels. Equipment includes heated and power operated front seats, rear jump seats, a power tilt/slide sunroof, an AMG exhaust and locking differentials. Recent maintenance included an AC recharge as well as a new steering damper. Japanese service records are included with the car. Now showing just 125k kilometers (~78k miles), this G36 AMG is now offered for sale by the selling dealer in Portland, Oregon with the original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Oregon title.
The exterior is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features painted fender flares, black bumpers and a chrome brush guard. Exterior equipment includes a power tilt/slide sunroof, front and rear fog lights, headlamp washers, mud flaps, a paint-matched spare tire cover, a rear window wiper, AMG badges on the rear quarter panels and a chrome-plated dual side-exit AMG exhaust. The exterior is in good condition and shows no signs of damage or rust.
The factory 16” five-spoke alloy wheels wear a silver finish and come wrapped in a set of Michelin Latitude Touring HP tires measuring 265/70 on all four corners. The date codes on the tires read 2012. The finish on the wheels shows no signs of curb rash or discoloration.
The cabin is trimmed in Black Leather with matching black floor mats and Burl Walnut wood trim which lines the center console, dashboard and steering wheel. Both front seats are power adjustable and heated with a second-row bench seat and rear jump seats. Interior features include automatic climate control, cruise control, the original Mercedes cassette player and CD changer, power adjustable side mirrors and controls for the lockable differentials. AMG embroidered floor mats are featured in the second row along with AMG branding shown on the center console.
The wood/leather steering wheel frames an AMG gauge cluster featuring a 280 km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The lower digital display shows the outside temperature, a digital clock, a trip meter and a digital odometer which reads 125k kilometers (approximately 78k miles) from new.
This G-Wagen is powered by an AMG-modified M104 inline-six engine which was bored and stroked to an increased displacement of 3.6 liters generating 276 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with a two-speed transfer case and lockable front, rear and center differentials. Recent maintenance included an AC recharge along with a new steering damper in February 2023. Japanese service history is included. Photos of the underbody have been included by the seller in the gallery.
The Carfax report shows the truck imported in 2023 with registration in Oregon. This 1997 G36 AMG is now offered Portland, Oregon with the original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Oregon title.
Walk-around and transfer case demonstration videos have been provided by the seller below.
In the mid 90s, Mercedes and AMG had forged a close relationship allowing the then-independant tuner to provide modified versions of Mercedes road cars which were sold new from dealers. Beginning with the C36, AMG expanded their line-up to include other models such as the W463 G-Class. The M104 inline-six received a modified crankshaft along with a larger bore and forged pistons increasing displacement from 3.2 to 3.6 liters resulting in a 60 horsepower bump over the standard G320. With AMG details including an AMG side-exit exhaust, an AMG gauge cluster and an AMG-branded center console, this G-Wagen feels truly unique and serves as an excellent reminder of where the now-famous AMG G-Wagen started. This JDM example appears to be in excellent condition, showing just 125k kilometers with a clean body and interior. For an AMG collector looking for something more unique that can also go off-road, this G36 would be a hard opportunity to pass up!

Hi. It’s a 1997 model. I also just uploaded the maintenance records for the last 10 years verifying the mileage. Also uploaded a pic of the cluster when turning on the car set to German language. In a previous video the seatbelt warning was in Spanish caused by the battery disconnected while on its way from Japan.
Is this a 96 or 97? One of the videos uploaded says 97, but the listing says 96
All, I’ll uploading the inspections from the last 10 years asap, scanner down, that verifies the mileage along with the auction house verification where the truck was purchased.
