This 2006 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG was first registered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and acquired in 2012 by the current owner, who commissioned Mike Lavallee of Killer Paint to create the artwork seen here. Lavallee was best known for his True Fire airbrush technique, which gave painted flames the depth and translucence of an open fire. His collaborations with Chip Foose and appearances on Overhaulin’ and Jesse James’ Monster Garage brought that work to a national audience. On this CL, Lavallee used the factory Black (040) finish as his canvas, painting a multi-armed figure surrounded by skulls and silver flames across the hood. The flames reappear behind the front wheel arches and fade into the doors, while a separate circular design occupies the center of the trunk lid. A Killer Paint mark is visible near the leading edge of the hood. Beneath the mural, the supercharged 5.4-liter M113K V8 features a Kleemann K4 package comprising a boost kit, headers, camshafts, throttle body, and ECU calibration. A five-speed AMG Speedshift automatic sends power to the rear wheels through an OS Giken limited-slip differential. The cabin is trimmed in Graphite/Anthracite AMG leather (281) and houses a $13,264 audio system installed by Cartunes of Atlanta with dual McIntosh MCC204 amplifiers and Focal speakers. The seller has added approximately 48k of the 68,340 miles shown, and recent service includes front brake pads and rotors, valve-cover gaskets, an engine air filter, and a replacement rear tire. This CL55 AMG is now offered by the commissioning owner in Georgia with two keys, complete books, all pictured records, and a clean Georgia title.
Lavallee used the factory Black (040) finish as the backdrop for a silver and gray hood mural depicting a multi-armed figure surrounded by skulls and flames. His Killer Paint mark appears near the leading edge of the hood. Flames trail rearward from the front wheel arches and fade into the doors, while a separate circular motif is centered on the trunk lid. Exterior equipment includes AMG bumper covers and side skirts, a sliding glass sunroof, and quad exhaust outlets. Close-ups of the artwork and paint-meter readings are provided in the gallery.
Mike Lavallee trained as a sign painter and spent years painting motorcycles before opening Killer Paint in Snohomish, Washington, in 1999. He became known for True Fire, an airbrush technique that gave painted flames the depth and translucence of real fire. His Hellion painting, a portrait of a lion with a mane of fire, helped introduce the technique to a wider audience. Lavallee later appeared on Monster Garage with Jesse James and Overhaulin’ with Chip Foose. For the latter, he painted a Chevrolet van in blue flames with a fire-breathing dragon across the rear.
The 19" AMG double-spoke wheels feature dark centers, polished lips, and exposed perimeter hardware. Tire close-ups show a 245/40ZR19 size and date codes from 2023 and 2026. The seller confirms the left-rear tire was replaced after a shop noted a sidewall cut in August 2026. At 67,133 miles in September 2026, European Service Center in Atlanta replaced the front brake pads and rotors.
The cabin is trimmed in Graphite/Anthracite AMG leather (281) with burl walnut across the dashboard, doors, and center console. Equipment includes multicontour front seats, Distronic cruise control, Keyless-Go, and a power rear sunshade. A Kenwood Excelon touchscreen replaces the factory COMAND unit. An April 2012 paid invoice from Cartunes of Atlanta totals $13,264.55 and lists two McIntosh MCC204 amplifiers, Focal speakers, an Audison bit One signal processor, and a steering-wheel control interface. Both amplifiers are mounted behind a carpeted trunk panel, leaving the cargo floor clear and the spare accessible beneath it.
The multifunction steering wheel fronts a 200-mph speedometer, a tachometer marked AMG V8 Kompressor, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer shows 68,340 miles. At the time of photography, the cluster displayed “No Messages” and indicated 8,200 miles until the next A Service.
The supercharged 5.4-liter M113K V8 features a Kleemann boost kit, headers, camshafts, throttle body, and ECU calibration. A January 2012 FunKtion Auto Group repair order itemizes the K4 upgrades, an upgraded intercooler pump, and the OS Giken limited-slip differential. The seller confirms the listed equipment remains on the car. Additional records document replacement of a high-pressure suspension line and transmission mount, along with a welded repair to the right-side exhaust header. The engine bay, suspension, driveline, and exhaust are pictured in the gallery.
The Carfax report lists three owners, 28 service entries, and history in Florida, Delaware, Virginia, and Georgia. A September 2023 entry notes minor damage to the left and right sides. The seller describes the damage as minimal. No total loss, airbag deployment, or title brands are reported. The most recent Carfax entry records a service visit at 68k miles in October 2026. Two keys, complete books, and all pictured records accompany the sale.
The seller has included a video tour of the car along with a video from Chip Foose discussing the late Mike Lavallee.
If you watched Chip Foose on Overhaulin’ or Jesse James on Monster Garage, you probably knew Mike Lavallee’s flames before you knew his name. Lavallee worked with both builders, and his True Fire technique made flames look as though they were rising off the sheet metal. Since his passing in 2020, the only way to own a Lavallee commission is for someone who has one to let it go. That’s what makes this CL such an unusual opportunity. The person who asked Lavallee to paint it is the one handing over the keys. And of all the canvases you might expect from that era of American custom paint, how far down the list is a black, pillarless AMG coupe?
Then there’s the pair of McIntosh MCC204s hiding behind the trunk carpet and driving the symphonic cabin. The interesting part of McIntosh’s 50-watt rating is the fine print: that’s per channel, with all four channels driven, across the full audio band into four ohms, with no more than 0.005% total harmonic distortion. Power Guard monitors the signal and backs off the input when the amp approaches clipping, so a hard snare hit can come through cleanly without acquiring that harsh edge you hear when other amplifiers run out of room. For perspective, when McIntosh developed the optional stereo for the Ford GT, its engineers adapted the MCC204’s amplifier circuit to fit the car. This CL has two of the originals, paired with Focal drivers and an Audison bit One processor.
Our favorite line item in the build might still be the OS Giken limited-slip differential. With Kleemann cams, headers, a boost kit, and a tune on an already supercharged M113K, the owner gave as much thought to putting power down on corner exit as they did to making it. Then, out of pure love, they put roughly 48,000 miles on the result. A standard CL55 is something you can shop for by color, mileage, and condition. If what you want is the one Mike Lavallee painted, with the K4 hardware under the hood and a pair of green McIntosh logos in the trunk, this is the call you’ve been waiting for.
