This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was purchased new in Lincoln, California and is now located in Fresno, California with the current owner. This R129 is finished in Brilliant Silver (744) over Black Leather (261) and power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, a color-matched hardtop, headlamp wipers, automatic climate control, electric seats with position memory, a cup holder in the center console, and burl wood trim. In October 2020 the top latches for both tops were rebuilt and the most recent service in February 2021 included a fresh oil & filter change. Now with 96,170 miles on the odometer, this R129 is offered by the seller with manufacturer’s literature, two keys, a clean Carfax report, a California smog check, and a clean California title.
The body is finished in Brilliant Silver (744) and features a power-operated black soft top as well as a color-matched hardtop. Additional equipment includes fog lights, heated side mirrors, and headlamp wipers. The Carfax report indicates no prior damage and no signs of rust are present on the body. The plastic windows of the black soft top are clear and free from creasing or hazing and the top reportedly seals nicely against the body of the car. The seller notes that the front top hydraulic latches were rebuilt in October of 2020.
Staggered 18″ five-spoke alloy wheels originally from an early W220 AMG are mounted with Continental ContiSport Contact tires measuring 245/45 up front and 275/40 in the rear. The wheels show no signs of curb rash or bends.
The cabin is upholstered in Black Leather (261) with a Black upper dashboard and burl wood accents on the center console and doors. Factory floor mats embroidered with the Mercedes star line the footwells, and amenities include power-adjustable seats with position memory, automatic climate control, an aftermarket head unit with Bluetooth, cruise control, a cup holder, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The headliner on the hardtop is shown to be in nice condition along with the soft top. The automatic retracting roll bar is also trimmed in Black leather and still functions as it should.
A four-spoke airbag steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and additional gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel economy, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 96,170 miles, 1,400 of which have been added by the seller, and there are no warning lights illuminated.
The 5.0-liter M119 V8 engine is factory rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.6 five-speed automatic transmission. In February 2021 the car received a fresh oil and filter change. The included Carfax shows consistent service and emissions tests.
The aforementioned Carfax references continual ownership in California since new. The car is offered by the seller with manufacturer’s literature, two keys, a clean Carfax report, a California smog check, and a clean California title.
The R129 SL500 remains tastefully elegant and understated under any and all circumstances. The unmistakable Sacco-era design has become a staple in the automotive industry and recognizable to all. The R129 takes on many personalities with the option to go topless, or your choice of a removable hardtop or built-in soft top. Luckily for SL enthusiasts and nice examples like this one, the R129 is multi-generational, meaning it's currently in a stage of appreciation between upcoming enthusiasts and those of us with a few more miles under our belts. It's examples like this that remind us these cars are about an emotional experience and lifestyle around the Mercedes SL.

@W124Tony nice win! Looks like a great car.
The final bid by @IGTG was not valid because the card on file was prepaid and would not accept the buyer's fee. The winning bidder is @W124Tony and the listing has been updated accordingly. Thank you to all!

@MBOregon I do have the hardtop stand. I do not have the wheels but I am sure won’t be a problem finding the cheaper wheels, keep in mind these wheels on the vehicle are original.
I love the AMG wheels on these R129s. Fills out the wheel wells so much better and gives the car a proper stance
Any chance you have the original wheels? Or the hardtop storage stand?
