This 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL500 Silver Arrow was sold new through Mercedes-Benz of South Bay in Torrance, California in December 2002. It remained in Southern California with two subsequent owners and is offered for sale by the selling dealer out of Costa Mesa, California after its acquisition from the third owner in 2019. Finished in Silver Arrow Metallic (777) over an exclusive Black and Silver Nappa Leather interior, power comes from a 5.0-liter M113 V8 paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. This R129 is 1 of 1,550 Silver Arrow editions offered for the North American market across all year models. Features include an electric folding softtop, xenon headlights, electrically adjustable and heated seats, and illuminated door sills. This Silver Arrow currently shows 39,975 miles on the odometer and is offered with the original hard top, hard top stand, manufacturer's literature, two original keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
Finished in Silver Arrow Metallic (777), all paintwork appears to be original and is reportedly free from any accidents which is supported by the included Carfax report. The soft top is trimmed in Black cloth and shows no signs of tears or rear window damage. The included hard top is finished in matching Silver Arrow Metallic paint and comes with the factory stand. Exterior features include Xenon headlamps, AMG ground effects (Sport bumpers, side skirts, and exhaust), and Silver Arrow-specific fender badges.
This example wears five spoke 18” staggered AMG wheels measuring 18x8.5 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear. New Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires were mounted in August 2019 and measure 245/40 and 275/35 respectively. Approximately 300 miles have been driven on the current tires since being installed.
The cabin is trimmed in two-tone Black and Silver (231) Nappa leather across the seats, door cards, head rests, shift knob, and steering wheel. All leather surfaces are reported to be original and nicely kept. The original Silver leather trimmed floor mats remain with the car and are included in the sale. Black Birdseye Maple wood adorns the door cards and center console. The wood trim towards the armrest shows some heat cracks. Additional features include electircallly adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, and an automatic dimming rear view mirror. Additionally, the Silver Arrow features exclusive polished aluminum trim including the shift surround and illuminated door sills.
The Silver Arrow package for this SL500 was offered for an additional $2,500 on top of MSRP and was limited to 1,550 units for the North American market. The Silver Arrow package includes Exclusive “Silver Arrow” Ultra-Metallic paint, Black Birdseye Maple wood, Illuminated Door Sills, Xenon Lights, Heated Seats, a 6-disc changer, exclusive high polish wheels, and polished aluminum exterior and interior features. Total MSRP for this example would have been $87,945 for the 2002 model year.
The digital odometer shows 39,975 original miles. Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and a digital odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, fuel economy, and an analog clock. The gauges are trimmed with chrome rings and feature a polished aluminum surround exclusive to the Silver Arrow.
The 5.0-liter M113 V8 was rated at 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired with a 722.6 automatic five-speed transmission. The owner notes that no previous receipts were passed on from prior owners while the included Carfax report shows consistent service history in Southern California with Fletcher Jones Motorcars and Mercedes-Benz of South Bay up to March 2021. The most recent service performed was a Service A with Fletcher Jones.
The provided Carfax report shows consistent service history and linear mileage updates as well as no accidents or other damage. This Silver Arrow SL is offered with the original hard top, hard top stand, manufacturer's literature, two original keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The R129 is certainly poised as a proper modern classic especially when you consider it’s long tenure in the Mercedes lineup throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s. Combining the sharp Sacco-designed lines with the “Silver Arrow” nameplate and a limited production run was a definitive recipe for success, but moreover, designers found a way to bring the heritage and look of the 1930’s to the R129. The aluminium work surely stood out from the pack considering the parts it replaced were primarily black plastic and the paint, if you’ve ever seen it in person, is brighter than any other silver Mercedes offered. Essentially, the Silver Arrow found a way to bring the romance of the GT roadster full circle by combining modern functionality and timeless craftsmanship.

@peterquinones2 Congratulations on a real beauty. I was curious as to the availability of original SA rims and there is a set on eBay in Japan for $3,500 including shipping. I love those wheels, and as suggested earlier you can sell yours for ???. Just a thought. Enjoy!

Madera refinished some wood trim on an S6 Audi once, and it was like new. Highly recommend using them. GLWA

I know this isn't popular opinion but the Silver Arrow wheels aren't very attractive... These AMG wheels fit the car so much better. GLWA!
You should offer the winner of the car the option to facilitate refurbishment of the broken wood at Madera Concepts since they're up in Goleta and the car is still here in SoCal. They're supposedly the best in the nation for auto woodwork so I'll be taking a mini road trip to them to drop off my busted up sl600 wood pieces.

These cars are absolute beauties. The Sport kit makes them I think and it only helps being a Silver Arrow.
@2002SA very true! I tried looking for a original since I got the car, I guess I was not lucky enough to find one and decided to keep in this original condition
Center console special Birdseye maple wood missing pieces and pretty cracked too. Nearly impossible to find. GLWTA
@2002SA I personally like those and decided to keep, I think it is a personal preference and if you like the car am sure you can find a good deal on a set on the web. Than you for your valuable comment though!

Though the wheels on the car are nice , when one buys a SA because it’s an SA it’s always nice to have the parts that are it an SA on the car.
@sushipaste I did a dealer check on it, cars drives mint. It was not recommended for replacement. Thank you for your thought.
@sushipaste I totally agree, this is how I purchase the car, I did restore the rims to mint condition and put new tires on it.
Looks nice. Front suspension looks like it could use new struts. Bilstein B4s are pretty nice. Original wheels will run like $3k if the winner wants to get them but the set on the car can be easily sold for $2k GLWTA!
Missing what to me are the jewels of this edition, the original Silver Arrow 2 piece BBS wheels and beauty rings.
