This set of 300SL Roadster seats were restored by Mercedes-Benz Classic Center and are now being offered out of Lodi, New Jersey by the current owner. Covered in Red Leather, these 300SL Roadster seats were removed from a 300SL Roadster that has since undergone a conversion from a stock, road going 300SL to a race spec tribute of Paul O’Shea’s 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SLS. This is a complete front set of seats including new leather skins, painted seat springs, frame, reupholstered cloth backing, new ventilation rivets, and new hardware.
The Red Leather shows as perforated in the center for ventilation and fine grain on the bolsters. Mercedes-Benz Classic Center rebuilt these seats that were originally for a road going 300SL Roadster before being built as a Paul O’Shea 300SLS tribute car which now has sport bucket seats.
Loop cloth seat backings in Red were also applied to the rear of the seat back with new rovers around the ventilation holes. The natural fibers that acted as cushions for the original seats were replaced with a black synthetic blend that will not crumble and degrade over time. New buttons, rivets, bolts, and washers can be seen throughout. A small scratch in the leather is noted on the side of one of the seat backings.
The seat springs are shown in the gallery and appear as new with gloss paint. The seat frame is also pictured and shows no damage or cracks and appears to be restored, original units.
The Mercedes-Benz Classic Center restored these 300SL Roadster seats to original spec as they would have been built when new. The seller mentions the seats have remained in climate-controlled storage since they were refinished. The seats are now offered out of Lodi, New Jersey and the seller can assist in world wide shipping as paid for by the buyer.
With the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center out of California being the main hub for service and restoration on the 300SL in the United States, if you’re looking for a set of new seats, you want it done by the team out of Long Beach by factory trained tradesmen. With over a dozen 300SLs in their shop at any one time, they can use other cars as reference if needed when rebuilding anything from mechanical injection pumps to well… seats. As these cars keep rising in value and are all basically seven figure vehicles at this point, parts for these aging super cars and quality work are now more in demand than ever. These seats luckily seem to be easy to install. This would be a huge upgrade to an interior if your 300SL is in need of Red Leather seats for either a restoration, refresh, or to just replace tired, uncomfortable seats. Parts like this are so important to keeping special cars like the 300SL on the road and if new seats will get you to drive your 300SL more often, we are in full support of auctions like these – as will be your spine and legs with all the new cushion. They sure do look comfy.
