This 1997 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was purchased new in New York and is now located in Sanford, FL. This R129 is finished in Black (040) over Beige Leather (265) and power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, a color-matched hardtop, headlamp wipers, automatic climate control, seat position memory, burl wood trim, and a trunk-mounted CD changer. The most recent service in February 2021 included a fresh oil & filter change, transmission fluid & filter change, transmission conductor plate, spark plugs, front shock mounts, camshaft & crankshaft position sensors, and more. This R129 has 82,975 miles and is offered by the selling dealer with manufacturer’s literature, a healthy list of recent maintenance, a Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.

The body is finished in Black (040) and features a power-operated black soft top as well as a color-matched hardtop. Additional equipment includes fog lights, heated side mirrors, and headlamp wipers. The Carfax report indicates damage in August 1998, although no signs of previous damage are found presently. Recently the headlamp bezels were replaced. The plastic windows of the soft top are clear and free from creasing and the factory windscreen is attached. The seller notes that only the spare key is available with the vehicle and no key FOBs are present.

Factory 17″ five-spoke alloy wheels are mounted with Bridgestone Potenza tires measuring 245/45 all around. The wheels still retain their polished lip and painted faces. In February 2021 the car received new front shock mounts.

The cabin is upholstered in Beige Leather (265) with a darker brown upper dashboard and burl wood accents on the center console and doors. Factory floor mats engraved with “SL500” line the footwells, and amenities include power-adjustable heated seats with position memory, automatic climate control, a trunk-mounted CD changer, cruise control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The headliner on the hardtop was recently replaced and the Bose Amp was rebuilt at Bose Central. Additionally, both headrest gears and sun visor arm caps were replaced. The HVAC blower motor and resistor were also replaced along with the cabin air filters.

A four-spoke airbag steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, fuel economy, and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates just under 87k miles and there are no warning lights illuminated.

The 5.0-liter M119 V8 engine is factory rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.620 five-speed automatic transmission. In February 2021 an oil and filter change was performed and a new hood insulation pad installed. Additional maintenance performed at the time included a transmission fluid & filter change, a transmission conductor plate, NGK spark plugs, a Bosch camshaft & crankshaft position sensor, avVDO oil pressure sender, and a Denso oxygen sensor.

The aforementioned Carfax references ownership in New York, Ohio, and Florida. The car is now offered by the selling dealer with a list of recent maintenance, one key, and a clean Florida title.

As with all SL's, the R129 is currently seeing an appreciation in values and this is only the beginning. The R129 takes on many personalities with the option to go topless, or your choice of a removable hardtop or built-in soft top. Perhaps one of the most appealing aspect of this SL500 is the legendary M119 powerplant. Also found in other models such as the big-body W140 sedan and 500E, the 5.0-liter M119 has also become a staple on it's own in Mercedes history. As time progresses, these cars are only becoming more expensive and more difficult to find making this the opportune time to claim your R129.

@Mfb90 nothing we can notice.  All panels look original. No signs of anything structural, replaced, or noticeable paint work. Zero rust despite the years it spent up north.

@JHart1985 yes! Radio, heat, a/c, both power seats, headrest, top, steering wheel tilt/telescoping, central locking, cruise, windows, and roll bar all function as they should.
