Thanks for the comment nonamenoface. If anything it’s been upped a few levels and such an original piece!
Saw this car several years ago and it's absolutely as clean as expected considering the originality. Not affiliated with the seller but would recommend confidence with this one.

Welcome to the last day/hours of this 1979 450SEL auction! Pleased to present here on MB Market to true enthusiasts! We like this example for these following reasons: -highly original survivor. -paint meter readings show original depth numbers. -clean and dry car has not suffered over exposed UV and weather issues that can deteriorate quickly cars of this era. -mechanically sorted in many of the areas as a buyer you’d like to see. -good looking pretty color livery. -very well preserved clean interior nice original leather and carpet and headliner. Original dash and wood. -newer tires and restored wheels factory correct alloy Bundts are clean! -drives lovely, accelerates correctly nice strong motor pulls properly. Shifts smoothly. Braking and steering systems have both been addressed. Supple suspension rides smooth and quiet. -116 V-8 cars aren’t growing on trees because they were actually driven and used by their owners from new, unlike 450SL that was an extra car or a sparingly driven roadster. Finding them nice and sorted is not so easy to do. -our records of more than $4,500.00 are included and that work has been done for next owner. -all MB handbooks and manuals go with car. All service history well documented back to new. Also not common to find this when searching out 450SEL cars traded many times through the years. Bid with confidence on this example! Best of luck!

Good Afternoon, the additional pics were added to the photo gallery. You can see those and they include all the MB handbooks, services in book, and paint meter readings. The paint meter readings all appear in the original factory range. Will send another batch soon of service records. Let us know if any questions and have a great Friday!
Good Evening - we sent a supplemental package of photos covering more extensive items to MB Market. They should be getting those up soon I’d imagine. We are a couple days into this. If anyone has questions or items they would like please don’t hesitate. These 116 V8 cars are special. It’s not easy to find them in good shape anymore. Unlike the 450SL that was more commonly owned as a vacation house car or 3rd vehicle the SEL was driven and daily driven more often so then the question becomes how many are left, not wrecked, not in a junk yard or not driven to death in 2023? Not many on the market at any given time vs the SL. We look forward to answering questions and meeting you. Thanks and have a nice evening!
@mcamp2000 The mileage was not an issue as your comment suggests. It is titled currently on a Virginia title as “actual mileage” in the last owners name. Let me know if you need any doc support. From our conversations with prior auction reps and our understanding from 2 owners back when it was sold, the tripometer got stuck and listing was then changed to TMU. The odometer was never effected. We have records leading up to that and after with mileage. For the record BAT is not a 50 state DMV agency nor is MB Market or any auction house for that matter and don’t decide TMU brands. The VA title and CA title prior are all clean no TMU brand. Please let me know if I can assist further and don’t hesitate to contact direct Mcamp. Thank you.
@mcamp2000 Just getting to these items as I’ve been in a car most of day. I can supply more close ups of dash if you need. If you are looking for a crack free perfect dash this one is not…there are a few (it is the original not a cover) and I believe with a little effort you should be able to zoom in better and see with supplied interior pics. There’s a white residue (maybe sticky glue) that was put on to hold something in middle dash it appears. Like adhesive we will try and get off. Can keep you posted. Also you are more than welcome to contact direct above and I’ll be happy to discuss and or if you’d like to have the car professionally inspected or you’d like to see it yourself that can be arranged for serious interest and bidding. Good news! 2 auction houses have now vetted the car. Thank you.
@MKotzas thanks for the heads-up on the Bat auction. It looks as though mileage was an issue as it was listed as TMU.
Can you post a close- up picture of the dash? I would like more detail of the crack. Also what is the white line next to it to the left? Is it another crack that someone tried to repair? Please explain.
Good morning and thanks for your interest / bidding and let’s keep it going we are together through the 4th of July holiday!

beautiful color. A nice change from silver.
This is a 3 speed as factory delivered not 4 as the ad copy states. Likely that will get corrected?
Hello and welcome to our 1979 450SEL auction! We are excited to present this 116 here to the most loyal and passionate Mercedes enthusiasts! As always we will be adding additional relevant pics and supporting docs and handbooks records. We look forward to representing this example for the next 10 days. Please feel free to reach out and contact direct for deeper dive questions. About the car: I love the way it drives and behaves on the road. We did some extensive servicing in preparation for new ownership. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it longer distances. It’s a very solid original example that’s very clean in a lovely color livery. These were such highly engineered vehicles for their time. Built like bank vaults when engineers ran Mercedes not accountants. Thank you and we do look forward!

Is the 4 speed a typo or does the car have an upgraded transmission from the factory 3 speed?
$5,000 bid placed by @Shyk1965
@MKotzas Looks like it bid to 11K but did not sell. It was also sold on BAT in 2019 for 12K.
Wasn’t this car just on Bat?
