Very reasonable reserve in place that’s attainable and if you desire to stretch for it you’ll take it home! Good luck in last minutes!
A few notes highlighting the car: -Has a complete service history from each decade, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s would include service booklet records and then invoices, service records paperwork 2000s, 2010s, last owners late 2000 teens and then ours. -when we got it we did the following @ 81,795 miles: All new spark plugs, oxygen sensor, new fuel sending unit to correct fuel gauge accuracy. -Then @ 81,845 we replaced steering coupler and fresh power steering fluid refill. -newly restored factory 15 inch alloy gullideckel wheels installed. -The palomino leather shows excellent. -Body is straight and solid. -All the factory books and manuals included with the sale. -Original German Bosch headlamps and slim bumpers from the factory. -not easy to find all these items in order on an 80k mileage German market 500SL here in the USA. Best of luck bidders!
Good morning everybody and welcome to the final auction hammer day! If anyone has questions don’t hesitate to reach out direct message. Thank you!
Good evening everyone. Was reviewing a few items and answering some messages here: looks like this was not included in the write up on the car The Florida title displays 1988 when in fact this is a 1985 model year. Most likely due to a DMV typo in prior registrations. Mercedes Benz Classic Center Long Beach has verified it left the factory in July 1985 with the build sheet. And for shipping if needed we would be happy to provide our logistics contact and set you up with them. Thank you.
Good afternoon everybody! MB Market uploaded 3 brand new YouTube videos we just shot on the car. Driving, informational and motor running. They are just above in the ad 👆. We hope this helps make informed decisions as you watch bid and consider our vehicle. Thanks! PS: I love Mercedes!
Thanks for the bids and first layer of cake guys! Remember this is a 500SL 107…not a 380,450 or typical 560. They are more wild and beastly! European delivered true 107.046 cars aren’t growing on trees out there like the other models and certainly were sparsely produced. While they had a production run of 1980 through 1989 there were far less. Approximately 11,800 500SL VS 49,000 560SL from 1986-1989. Thanks!
Morning MB Market administrator - we sent a walk around video previously emailed can you please upload. Thank you.
@latium05 To my knowledge it’s nowhere out of normal range the noise however if you are looking for zero noise I wouldn’t play for a 1985 hardtop MB…get a new car. Regarding quirks just be specific on anything you need. Thanks.

@Anton thanks for the words! NO this car will not pass smog and cannot be registered in the state of California. Hello All! Welcome to the last day / final hours of the auction. We are available for any last minute questions and can assist in transport options if needed. This 1979 450SL is a great example in an era where the R107 saw huge improvements and still offers tremendous value for exceptional build quality. Having been well looked after and cared for over several decades with excellent preservation and little UV damage and no corrosion this one has high appeal. All the service documents were uploaded and it is a true 2 owner lifetime car on the west coast. Thank you!

Thanks @thembmarket for uploading those MB service booklet records. Hello All please review at your own leisure the records uploaded that go along with this car (MB service booklet). Looks like we have very steady and consistent dealer services from the original ownership. A quick note this car had 2 owners lifetime (not including our business acquisition from owner 2). So fully documented vehicle again 2 owners since 1979. I hope ya’ll are having a great weekend and you do get a chance to consider this highly preserved excellent condition 450SL! Of course reach out direct for deeper discussion and please bid with confidence!
Hello Everybody! Wanted to check in with less than a week to go on this beautiful 450SL! It’s not easy to find these older 107s produced in the 1970s vs the newer 560, 380 USA examples. They are Older cars usually by more than a decade and quite simply far less are on the road for several reasons. The 1970s brought us interesting colors not found in the more down the middle palette of the 1980s and 90s. All the greens, yellows oranges and variations of blues were plentiful and certainly period correct. This fine example comes in Brilliant Red and exudes such style and presence. The contrasting black leather interior is sumptuous and still smells like a Stuttgart leather factory with the original excellent condition skins. The original dash has zero cracks and is in perfect condition (find it these days). Excellent carpet, wood and door cards. Original Becker in working condition with good sound. We replaced the older Michelins with new correctly sized Hankook tires that were mounted and balanced and ride wonderful. The Mercedes original issue black soft top is in excellent shape. The interior clearly shows a vehicle that’s been garaged its entire life. Overall this is a fantastic example we love and hope the next enthusiast appreciates it the same. Please make sure to review the underside pics and wheels off and note how clean it is suffering from no weather or outside elements. Feel free to reach out direct with any questions. Bid with confidence and thank you all for the bids thus far!
Hi and welcome to the auction friends and Mercedes enthusiasts! We are very excited to present this 1979 450SL in Brilliant Red over black leather! She is a superb example with documented service history, beautiful paint, a highly preserved interior and wonderful drive quality as one would expect an original 65k mile 450SL would operate like. We just installed new tires and the original MB black soft top is in excellent shape. Turn on the original Becker radio and crank on your favorite 70s disco era song or your latest pop or hip hop beat and it will sound just like 1979 clear new audio with that working original head unit and speakers. As usual Don’t hesitate to reach out for further deep dive questions we will be here all auction cycle and bid with confidence this is a really nice 450! Thank you.

Thanks for the comment nonamenoface. If anything it’s been upped a few levels and such an original piece!
Welcome to the last day/hours of this 1979 450SEL auction! Pleased to present here on MB Market to true enthusiasts! We like this example for these following reasons: -highly original survivor. -paint meter readings show original depth numbers. -clean and dry car has not suffered over exposed UV and weather issues that can deteriorate quickly cars of this era. -mechanically sorted in many of the areas as a buyer you’d like to see. -good looking pretty color livery. -very well preserved clean interior nice original leather and carpet and headliner. Original dash and wood. -newer tires and restored wheels factory correct alloy Bundts are clean! -drives lovely, accelerates correctly nice strong motor pulls properly. Shifts smoothly. Braking and steering systems have both been addressed. Supple suspension rides smooth and quiet. -116 V-8 cars aren’t growing on trees because they were actually driven and used by their owners from new, unlike 450SL that was an extra car or a sparingly driven roadster. Finding them nice and sorted is not so easy to do. -our records of more than $4,500.00 are included and that work has been done for next owner. -all MB handbooks and manuals go with car. All service history well documented back to new. Also not common to find this when searching out 450SEL cars traded many times through the years. Bid with confidence on this example! Best of luck!
Hello please note the cold start / motor running video that was just added above in the video gallery! We have a day left get your bids in on this beauty and cruise summer weather soon! Thank you.
Happy 4th of July! If you have any questions or would like to discuss don't hesitate to reach out! Thank you.
20 added pics are now in the photo gallery including service records!
Greetings watchers bidders and interested Mercedes enthusiasts! Forthcoming are an add’l 20 or so pics. As promised are more service records including work we performed upon our acquisition. Plus records history from prior ownership and more vetting of original owner and original registration. Let’s see if MB market gets that up shortly. Thank you!
Good Afternoon, the additional pics were added to the photo gallery. You can see those and they include all the MB handbooks, services in book, and paint meter readings. The paint meter readings all appear in the original factory range. Will send another batch soon of service records. Let us know if any questions and have a great Friday!
Good Evening - we sent a supplemental package of photos covering more extensive items to MB Market. They should be getting those up soon I’d imagine. We are a couple days into this. If anyone has questions or items they would like please don’t hesitate. These 116 V8 cars are special. It’s not easy to find them in good shape anymore. Unlike the 450SL that was more commonly owned as a vacation house car or 3rd vehicle the SEL was driven and daily driven more often so then the question becomes how many are left, not wrecked, not in a junk yard or not driven to death in 2023? Not many on the market at any given time vs the SL. We look forward to answering questions and meeting you. Thanks and have a nice evening!
@mcamp2000 The mileage was not an issue as your comment suggests. It is titled currently on a Virginia title as “actual mileage” in the last owners name. Let me know if you need any doc support. From our conversations with prior auction reps and our understanding from 2 owners back when it was sold, the tripometer got stuck and listing was then changed to TMU. The odometer was never effected. We have records leading up to that and after with mileage. For the record BAT is not a 50 state DMV agency nor is MB Market or any auction house for that matter and don’t decide TMU brands. The VA title and CA title prior are all clean no TMU brand. Please let me know if I can assist further and don’t hesitate to contact direct Mcamp. Thank you.
@mcamp2000 Just getting to these items as I’ve been in a car most of day. I can supply more close ups of dash if you need. If you are looking for a crack free perfect dash this one is not…there are a few (it is the original not a cover) and I believe with a little effort you should be able to zoom in better and see with supplied interior pics. There’s a white residue (maybe sticky glue) that was put on to hold something in middle dash it appears. Like adhesive we will try and get off. Can keep you posted. Also you are more than welcome to contact direct above and I’ll be happy to discuss and or if you’d like to have the car professionally inspected or you’d like to see it yourself that can be arranged for serious interest and bidding. Good news! 2 auction houses have now vetted the car. Thank you.
Good morning and thanks for your interest / bidding and let’s keep it going we are together through the 4th of July holiday!
This is a 3 speed as factory delivered not 4 as the ad copy states. Likely that will get corrected?
Hello and welcome to our 1979 450SEL auction! We are excited to present this 116 here to the most loyal and passionate Mercedes enthusiasts! As always we will be adding additional relevant pics and supporting docs and handbooks records. We look forward to representing this example for the next 10 days. Please feel free to reach out and contact direct for deeper dive questions. About the car: I love the way it drives and behaves on the road. We did some extensive servicing in preparation for new ownership. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it longer distances. It’s a very solid original example that’s very clean in a lovely color livery. These were such highly engineered vehicles for their time. Built like bank vaults when engineers ran Mercedes not accountants. Thank you and we do look forward!
What about 560SL USA cars fitment?
Any update on the undercarriage pics? As well as soft top pics? Thanks
Undercarriage pics? Thx
Why was the trunk badge removed or deleted? Was it repainted? Thanks

Thank you.
