This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 240D was purchased new by its one and only owner in August of 1983 and shows Texas registration with 74k original miles. Finished in Light Ivory (623) over Henna Red MB-Tex (157), power is provided by a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Factory equipment includes a sliding sunroof, four power windows, a power passenger-side mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control with air conditioning, front fog lamps, a power antenna and a Becker Europa cassette player and radio. Records dating from new are included with the most recent service consisting of a new valve cover gasket, crankshaft oil seal, fuel pump and fuel filter. This 240D is now offered for sale by the selling dealer with the original window sticker, spare tire and tool kit, first-aid kit, original manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report and a clean Texas title.
The exterior is finished in Light Ivory (623) and features chrome trim along the beltline and impact bumpers. Exterior features include a sliding sunroof, yellow fog lights, an automatic antenna, a power passenger-side door mirror and an electrically heated rear window. The exterior is in good condition showing no signs of rust or damage and the rubber trim is free of cracking or fading. The Carfax report is accident-free and the paint is believed to be original.
The factory 14” Bundt alloy wheels have been fitted with Michelin Defender tires measuring 185/70 on all four corners with date codes from 2019. Minor surface imperfections can be seen in the finish of the wheels. The full-size spare has been fitted with a matching Michelin tire and comes with the factory tool kit and jack. Braking is handled by dual-circuit power-assisted disc brakes on all four corners.
The cabin is trimmed in Henna Red MB-Tex (157) and features matching burgundy carpets and floor mats. Zebrano wood trim can be found lining the center console and dashboard and shows no signs of cracking or fading. Interior amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control with air conditioning, four power windows, cruise control and the original Becker Europa cassette player and radio.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 100-mph speedometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer shows just under 74k miles from new from its single owner.
This W123 is powered by a 2.4-liter diesel inline-four which is rated for 72 horsepower and 101 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Maintenance performed in June 2020 included a new crankshaft oil seal, valve cover gasket, fuel pump and fuel filter. Service documents from the original owner are included dating back to 1983. Underbody photos have been provided by the seller and are viewable in the photo gallery below.
The Carfax report shows one owner with registration in Texas along with linear mileage updates from new. The Carfax is free of any accidents or damage reports. This 1983 240D is now offered for sale in Lebanon, Tennessee with the original window sticker, original owner’s manual, both keys, a clean one-owner Carfax report and a clean Texas title.
A detailed interior/exterior walk-around video has been provided by the seller below.
Some things were built to last. The W123 is most certainly one of those things. Often referred to as the “million-mile Mercedes,” these cars have legendary reliability and longevity. Noticeably, as iconic as the W123 chassis has become, it's rare to find a 240D compared to the 300's. Moreover, it's unheard of to find one of these with complete documentation in a color that's not gray, silver, or white. This example pairs its Light Ivory exterior color well with a unique Henna Red MB-Tex interior which has held up exceptionally well with time. While many W123 diesels have seen many hundreds of thousands of miles, this example stands out showing just a single owner, 73k original miles and service history from new.

Mark EVERYTHING WORKS ON THIS CAR!! This is a tough car to convey how really unique, fresh, and crisp the car is without one being present for the tactile experience.Items such as wiper and turn signal stalks still have the tight feel of a new car.Seats still are up as if it were 1983.The entire car has solid, fresh feel that has been maintained thru the years. In regards to an earlier comment on a possible oil leak,we had it reviewed and it is no more than seepage that a 15 minute replacement of a gasket will rectify if one were so inclined. In regards to steering, this is no more than an alignment which we will have done before transfer of ownership
Since it was a Texas car I assume the A/C works well. Also, in your inventory you have it stickered at $26,000. Are you at liberty able to give us a ballpark figure of your auction reserve?

You are absolutely correct.Kudos to the staff of MB Marketplace. Most online venues take weeks to get your submission live. This and another we’re live within hours after submission, caught me flat footed . I regards to steering wheel placement, steering is tight with no play, possibly a steering wheel alignment is in order. In regards to a possible leak, this car was so well looked after I would suggest if there was a need it would have been addressed. I will have the car put on lift before end of auction, get a report and post an answer

My apologies to all interested parties with questions .I am on holiday during the duration of this posting.I will answer all questions but may be slow in my responses Thank tou
Forward of the torque convertor housing, there appears to be dampness, suggesting an oil leak. Has this been diagnosed?

very nice car, on the driving video it looks like the steering wheel is quite twisted despite the straight road. Is that right? Can you check if the steering gear has a lot of movement? Thank you Sir
