This 1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SEC Koenig Specials was purchased by the seller on The MB Market in July of 2023 from the Patina Collective. Finished in Black (040) over Black leather (251), power is provided by a 3.8-liter M116 V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Service over the last 2 years included a full repaint in the original color, Recaro Classic seats, custom 3-piece aero wheels, a suspension overhaul with height adjustable coilovers, a new A/C compressor and drier, spark plugs, and more. The car has been fitted in period with a full Koenig Specials widebody. Equipment includes a sunroof, power-adjustable front seats, AMG steering wheel, AMG gauge cluster, and a Sony head unit. The car was certified by TüV in Germany prior to being imported to the United States. This C126 shows 144k kilometers (~90k miles) and is now offered with import records, recent service records for work performed in the last 2 years, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.
The car is finished in Black (040) and received a full body repaint in its factory color earlier this year to correct various imperfections and fiber glass repair. The body features a genuine Koenig Specials widebody kit which includes extended front and rear bumpers, side skirts, widebody fenders, and a rear spoiler integrated into the trunk lid. The kit was reportedly fitted in period during the 80's and remains fully intact.
Custom 3-piece 18″ Aero III-style were made specifically for the car and feature "AMG" engraved on each face. The wheels are mounted with new Kenda Kr20A tires measuring 275/35 in the front and 335/30 in the rear. Braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs. The original Koenig sport suspension has been overhauled with a SF coilover system with height adjustability.
The cabin is upholstered in Black leather (251) with power-adjustable Recaro Classic front seats and a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Woodgrain trim adorns the dash, console, and doors with extended wood panels on the door cards. Amenities include a Sony head unit, AMG steering wheel, dual manual climate control, power windows, and dual rear seats. A new driver window regulator was installed in September 2023 along with an A/C service.
The AMG leather-wrapped steering wheel frames an AMG gauge cluster including an 300km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for instant fuel economy, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 144k kilometers (~90k miles).
The Carfax report shows first entry in June 2023 when the US title was issued upon import by The Patina Collective. Since then, annual registrations in Montana with the current owner are shown. This Koenig Specials SEC is now offered by the seller in Charlotte, North Carolina. Included in the sale are import records, recent service records for work performed in the last 2 years, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title.

Nothing was for sale.
@Craigsu - Same thing in Texas. They even have a calculator on the tax assessor's website that you can look up the value/what they will tax you. Before this system, you would need to present bill of sale and they would go off of that, and to combat the anomaly of 1000s of used cars with a $250 value that flooded the streets, they created this much more streamlined system. Don't pay much attention @mbeamdream , I have found that there is a surprising amount of people in this world that bootlick taxes.

@tonsofgas Are you able to post a cold start and/or a driving video? Thank you

@mbeamdream That was prior to installing the Recaro seats. Seats work as they should. @heavyfoot thank you ! @amine78 Sea freight is about 2500 to Rotterdam or Bremerhaven in Container, RoRo is a bit less. Origin and destination charges are not included. For the guy asking about shipping to Paris. Rates vary a lot, but is a ballpark
@Mbeamdream NC is interesting when it comes to determining value. As part of the registration process, rather than pay a defined property tax, residents pay an annual state highway use tax of 3% of the car's value, not to exceed $250. The specific method of determining value is actually in the hands of the tax assessor in the county where the car is registered, not the state. With a newly registered car the baseline value would most likely be determined by a bill of sale, but the NC DMV doesn't actually require any document like this be presented when registering a car in NC. To say it's a bit confusing would be an understatement.

Please note that a state can and will reference auction results for pricing - as it is literally tied to the VIN of the car so best not openly commit tax fraud on these platforms. @seller - were you able to resolve the driver seat issue with it moving forward. Invoices simply state part no longer available for the switch (which really sucks) was the shop able to engineer a fix? The seats are too rad to ditch.
Hello, how much for a shipment to Paris ? Thank you
Well done on the much needed upgrades for this car. It really came together well!

@DaMaestro I'm a native of Charlotte and, by way of comparison, the entire bill for my 1991 Volvo 240 wagon's NC registration and property taxes for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County was $84.52. The Volvo is valued at $500 by the state. I'm willing to bet the state would value this car as a plain old M-B, not a KS.
@CraigSu , I believe that is just to dodge property taxes, In California the authorities are actively tracking those folks down. But then again, doubt the property taxes on an 83 MB would be much in NC.
I understand Montana is a popular place for registering exotic cars but this car is in Charlotte. At its age it doesn't even require an inspection of any kind in NC, just annual registration fees.
I need this!

This an amazing car. A very early Koenig Specials that was long time part of an esteemed Youngtimer collector in Germany. During it's tenure in our collection, we performed some needed maintenance items before offering it for sale here previously. We were thrilled to see that our friend and avid Youngtimer collector @TonsOfGas was the winner of the sale. He is a prestigious and passionate Youngtimer collector and enthusiast with a strong motorsports derived culture and approach to car ownership. I have sent him copies of the German Paperwork supporting in-period build and authenticity to post here, which are also available to see in the previous listing of this car in this platform. This is probably one of the best Koenig Specials SECs you can find, a no excuses collectible that will make the next caregiver happy and proud to own. Happy bidding, Bernard
$15,000 bid placed by @TheBoss
@JPCollects yes, around that 35k mark but probably 5-10k more than that including the recaro seats and some other items. Yes I still have the bbs wheels and tires that came on the car when purchased
$10,000 bid placed by @Bankrep40
@tonsOfGas - so $35K invested post purchase? and did you keep the prior wheels?
I'm not sure if the Patina Collective history is a plus here. Regardless, great looking KS - certainly a very distinctive design. Not sure why AMG parts are included as it does seem incongruous.
I thought nothing was for sale.
