1990 Mercedes-Benz 300CE AMG

Just realized this car's an MB Market alumnus. That Smoke Silver Metallic/Brazilian Brown combo is nice but the Midnight Blue Metallic wrap really elevates it and sets it apart.

Beautiful example! Can you post receipts for the rocker panel work?

@Stuttgart_SteelThanks for the clarifications. Good to know about the jack covers. The glass used for the 300CE is also used on several other models if I remember correctly, so it shouldn't be difficult for the new owner to locate a used one at a decent price.

Wonderful car! I’m highly tempted but I fear it may exceed my limit before the auction concludes. One nit to pick: it appears that the driver’s side front tire is mounted backwards as photo #82 shows the word “Inside” on the outer sidewall. The other 3 read “Outside”. Also, how difficult to source/replace the missing jack point covers? And is it possible to repair the back glass? It appears to be extensive enough to warrant a replacement instead. And below the ignition switch there’s a dial that’s labeled PLC (photo #126), what is that?

@Stuttgart_SteelI'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this. Since it wouldn't be a track car like the example you referenced I presume the factory automatic rollbar operates independently of the soft top's presence or absence. That would be rather important.

craigsu said:

Perhaps a sacrilegious question and better asked in the M-B forums but, how difficult would it be to delete the soft top and how much weight would be saved? I love the lines and the color combination here but have no interest in a convertible. Would I simply be better off looking for a C140 to stay with the same vintage and the M119 engine?

@MbeamdreamNC is interesting when it comes to determining value. As part of the registration process, rather than pay a defined property tax, residents pay an annual state highway use tax of 3% of the car's value, not to exceed $250. The specific method of determining value is actually in the hands of the tax assessor in the county where the car is registered, not the state. With a newly registered car the baseline value would most likely be determined by a bill of sale, but the NC DMV doesn't actually require any document like this be presented when registering a car in NC. To say it's a bit confusing would be an understatement.

@DaMaestro I'm a native of Charlotte and, by way of comparison, the entire bill for my 1991 Volvo 240 wagon's NC registration and property taxes for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County was $84.52. The Volvo is valued at $500 by the state. I'm willing to bet the state would value this car as a plain old M-B, not a KS.

I understand Montana is a popular place for registering exotic cars but this car is in Charlotte. At its age it doesn't even require an inspection of any kind in NC, just annual registration fees.

1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL

@Stuttgart_SteelNot having owned a W126 (yet) I'm still getting my feet wet with their technical details. With the stories of how troublesome the HPF III system was it appears to be a good thing it doesn't have it. Thank you for the clarification as I still have so much to learn. Thanks also for the tip re: deleting the headlamp wipers. Much simpler than what I was envisioning.

craigsu said:

A couple of other things crossed my mind. Does the lowered stance and rake affect the 24 mm lowering operation of the HPF III at 75 mph? More generically, is there a “delete kit” for lack of a better term for the headlamp wipers that would include plugs to hide the holes? I prefer the Series 1 W126 because they don’t have the wipers but this one is definitely appealing.

Well presented! Thanks for such a detailed photo gallery. In gallery photo #119 is that rust on the underside of the drivers door or just some old protective sealer? If rust, what do you think it would take to remedy it? Also, how intermittent is the cruise control in case the buyer wanted to drive it several hundred miles home rather than have it shipped?

1999 Mercedes-Benz S500 w/69k Miles

Can you add driver’s seat perspective photos of the steering wheel and gauge cluster? The oblique angles in the current photos don’t allow for a detailed view. Also, could you add close up photos of the aforementioned exterior scratches? I thought I saw something at the base of the driver’s side B-pillar trim but perhaps it was just a reflection. Lovely spec for this W140!

Is it possible to post pictures of the undercarriage?

Beautiful car! I had no idea the Brazil leather was even an option. A few questions:

1. I'm assuming the cupholder insert is not an OEM feature?
2. Is the hole in the front console to the left of the horn switch the added AUX input for the stereo or is the USB connection mounted elsewhere?
3. Is any of the leather torn or am I just seeing scuff marks in the photos?

What is the window tint rating? It’s appears to be 20% VLT or less. Also, is the windshield tinted?

A few questions: Is that the factory CD changer behind the back seat? On the left side of the front license plate area, is that a sensor wire that's visible (it resembles a zip tie)? Is the text/graphics on the stalk controls in Japanese/English/Icons? If the new owner wants to change the stance how is the coilover height adjusted? Thanks and GLWTA!
