This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL is finished in Arctic White (147) over Royal Blue (272) leather and powered by a 4.2-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The car has been registered exclusively in Massachusetts since new, prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition in June 2021. Features include a sunroof, automatic climate control, a Continental headunit with Bluetooth capability, power accessories, headlamp washers, disc brakes, and 15″ wheels. Service performed in preparation for the sale included an oil change as well as replacement of the washer fluid reservoir and check valve. The long wheelbase body is finished in Arctic White (147) with gray lower cladding and features an electric sunroof with tilt function, an automatic antenna, chrome trim, and headlamp washers. The rear glass remains free from any signs of delamination and a black pinstripe adorns the body line on each side. Photos showing a paint chip below the right headlamp as well as bubbling near the tail lights are provided in the gallery.
Silver 15″ Gullideckel wheels show some paint chipping and minor curb rash and are mounted with 205/65 Pirelli P4 tires. Stopping power is provided by discs stationed at all four corners.
The cabin is upholstered in Royal Blue leather (272) with matching doorcards, dash, center armrest, and carpets. Wood trim adorns the dash, console, and door panels and remains original to the car. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats with position memory, automatic climate control, cruise control, an analog clock, power accessories, a Continental stereo with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and a K40 radar detector.
A four-spoke airbag steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline. Additional guages for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and instant economy are also present. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 78k miles, a handful of which have been added by the selling dealer.

@howS Sorry, should have only on the rear pass side corner?
@howS Is it on the rear passenger side corner?
@CCCC very very minor. We've owned the car for quite a while and there has been no change in it. Not all that uncommon on these cars, there is no break in the paint at all.
Can you provide any insight regarding the paint bubbling on the rear?
I am dialed in here for any last minute questions. This is as nice an S as you'll find on the market these days.

I have some records but not a full set.
@howS Thank you. Do you have service records?
Everything works as it should, windows, HVAC, seats... This is a very very nice example.
@howS Does everything work as it should—windows, sunroof, switches, A/C, gauges, seats, etc.?
Fantastic spec on this. Kudos for the Continental deck as well, one of the best looking options

Just wanted to add a comment on my auction. This is a really lovely car. Clean and straight. Starts, stops, runs, and drives beautifully. You could easily hop in and drive it across the country. These big Benz's were built like tanks. This one's been well cared for it's entire life. It was owned by a family who had multiple vehicles and multiple homes. It's had just enough exercise over its life to keep it in tip top shape without the miles of a typical 88 vehicle. This is my first listing here, I have sold many many interesting and vintage cars on other sites. I'd love to see this gem go to a good home. If you have a question or a pic request, post it here it hit contact seller. Thanks
