This 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor was delivered new at Mercedes-Benz of Cincinnati in April 1999 and remained with its original owner for 17 years until being sold to a family friend. Finished in Yellowstone (685U) over Black leather (221), this R170 SLK is powered by a 2.3-liter supercharged 4-cylinder power plant mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Features include AMG styling with sculpted bumpers and side skirts along with a power-folding hardtop, heated seats, and automatic climate control. Recent work includes a new battery as well as an A/C valve replacement and new mass airflow sensor. The odometer presents only 46,630 original miles, 10k of which have been added by the seller over the last 3 years. This Yellowstone SLK is now offered by the seller with a clean Carfax report, service history, and a clean Ohio title.
The body is finished in Yellowstone (685U) and is free of any rust or corrosion. The seller notes that this SLK has never seen the snow and has spent its entire life in a climate-controlled garage. Exterior features include headlamp washers and a power-retractable hardtop with an electrically heated rear window which is stated to be in good working order. All of the Yellowstone paintwork is original and the panel gaps are all even and symmetrical. As a result, the Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage.
The staggered 17” AMG monoblock 5-spoke wheels are specific to the Sport Package and wrapped in Kumho Ecsta LX tires measuring 225/45 up front and Yokohama Advan Sport tires measuring 245/40 in the rear. The seller notes very minor curb rash on some of the wheels, which still retain their factory machined lips and painted faces.
The interior is trimmed in Black leather (221A) with matching black carpets and upper dash while the lower dash and center console are grey. The leather hides on both bucket seats are heated and in good condition. Additional features include manual climate control, cruise control, cup holders, and the factory Mercedes-Benz radio. Faux carbon trim adorns the center console, air vents, and doors.
The four-spoke Sport leather wrapped steering wheel sits in front of a gauge cluster displaying a 160-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, and additional readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer reads 46,630 miles, 10k of which have been added by the seller. A digital clock and outside temperature gauge are also present. The seller states a brake wear indicator light is intermittent and when diagnosed by Mercedes-Benz, reports it's a sensor that will need to be replaced as all pads and rotors are in good working order and condition.
The ‘Kompressor’ supercharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder powerplant is rated at 185-hp and 200 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed 722.6 automatic transmission. This SLK comes with a robust service history and recent work includes a new battery as well as an A/C valve replacement and new mass airflow sensor.
This two-family owned Yellowstone R170 is offered with a clean Carfax report showing linear mileage updates over the car’s lifetime and no accidents or other damage.
The R170 SLK represented Mercedes’ dip into the red hot roadster market of the late 1990s. It shared the bold and chiseled look of the larger SL, but was light and nimble enough to lead the charge against the BMW Z3 and the Porsche Boxster. The AMG Sport Package truly transforms the appearance of the R170 providing the sculpted body kit and monoblock wheels which have become iconic for Benzes of the era. This, bright as the summer sun, SLK230 has been two-family owned with a documented history of owners who happen to know one another and is sure to make for a great late summer cruiser. Not only do we like the providence of this SLK, it also scores extra points for being finished in the rare and desirable “Yellowstone” launch color that graced all of Mercedes’ marketing materials when new.

I have this exact same car with the 5-spd manual and can attest that they are an incredible value for the money. The Yellowstone over black is the perfect combo when paired with the sport package. Someone is going to be very, very happy with this pristine, low-mile example. GLWA!

Yellow + Sport Package = the only way to buy a R170. I remember seeing this combo all over the MB promo posters and catalogs when they came out.
This auction has been extended until Tuesday, Sept 7th in sight of Labor Day. Thank you

Can someone clarify the end date of the auction? I could swear it was today, 9/3/21. Now it says 4 more days?

@Shimmer the data card will only provide you the correct option codes, then it tries to assign a description to each code based on Mercedes *current* interpretation. For example the code for “high end audio” in older MB’s was then shared with the option code for Bose audio, which has now been replaced by Burmester audio. So the data card can indicate Burmester audio on a vehicle built decades before that was actually an option. I believe same thing is happening here, at some point in more recent years Mercedes changed the name from Sunburst to Yellowstone so any car with 685 color code now comes back as Yellowstone, including my 98.
@w463pur I was thinking the same but just ran a datacard and it comes back as Yellowstone. I wonder if they changed it from 98 to 99?
According to my 98 US market SLK window sticker and dealer brochure “Sunburst Yellow” was the name used for 685 during this era.
