This is a stunning car in more ways than one, but I guess the lesson from the last auction six months ago (as well as this one) is that I can take any regular US-spec 560SEL, slap on some old AMG and AMG-style parts, and The MB Market will officially advertise my car (time and time again) as an authentic pre-merger AMG.
What a striking interior color... like an even darker Palomino or a pumpkin hue, if there was such a thing. So incredibly rare on a W126, especially since it was discontinued after September 1982 (early in the W126's production run).
The data card makes no mention of the wood trim, but to my knowledge all 500SEL cars originally came with burl wood rather than zebrano (which is more prone to cracking and is often switched to zebrano for this reason). Can someone verify if this is correct?
@HurstTAnd way, way rarer.
@MBCollector84 Are these wheels made by Maxilite?
It's rare on a 450SEL, but very common on a 300SD. Very nice example nonetheless. GLWTS.
This color combo screams 300SD. It's so unusual to see it on a 450SEL.
This is the 451st 500SEC ever made. Quite an early car. Amazing condition.
That's it? Wow.
How does one say "Yakuza" in German?
Will Crockett and Tubbs chase down the winning bidder?
This is 100% a Miami Vice villain's car.
@drosemont1 Do Euro cars also need to have a BAR sticker in order to pass smog and be able to be registered in California?
Kudos to the MB Market writers for pointing out how desirable and increasingly rare the Midnight Blue/Palomino color combination is. I have two W126s in the exact same colors (an '84 300SD and a grey market '85 500SEL, both two-tone with the Matt Gray Metallic bumpers and lower cladding), and selling them is a very hard decision to make for that reason. Whoever wins this won't be disappointed with how sharp the car will always look. Opting for Euro-spec lighting and bumpers would take this car even further to the next level.
