This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was produced in September of 1960 for the United States market. According to the seller it remained with the first owner for a couple decades before being placed into a museum's care in Chicago in 2003. In 2006 it was purchased by a family in Arizona and ultimately acquired by the current owner in 2012 when it was exported from the United States to Neu-Isenburg, Germany where it currently resides. The car benefits from a stringent refurbishment and is registered in Germany as a classic vehicle. This SL is finished in Red gloss paint over red leather and is powered by a 1.9-liter inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Features include a replacement black convertible soft top, a black tonneau, a Becker Europa AM/FM radio, paint-matched wheel covers, and complete brightwork. The owner reports the car to have received a comprehensive overhaul under their care with records provided in the gallery. This 190SL is offered by the current owner, who also owns the dealership representing the car. It’s offered with factory tools, factory literature, two keys, service records, and a clean German title. The SL is finished in gloss red paint and was repainted under previous ownership. Features include a replacement black convertible soft top along with a black tonneau. The brightwork shows well without pitting and appears to be complete. Detailed photos of the body, soft top, tonneau, and glass are provided in the gallery highlighting any blemishes noted.
Steel 13″ wheels wear chrome trim rings with paint-matched hubcaps. New Maxxis whitewall tires are mounted all around. Stopping power is provided by vacuum-assisted drums all around. A full size spare is located in the trunk along with the factory tool kit.
The interior features red leather seats along with matching door panels, carpets, and a body-color dash. Features include a dash-mounted rear-view mirror, a Becker AM/FM radio, an analog clock, lap belts, and a rear parcel shelf in red carpet. An OEM ivory steering wheel and shift knob accent the cabin and present well without cracks.
The two-spoke steering wheel wears a lace-up cover around the rim and frames VDO instrumentation including a 210-kmh speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer along with gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer currently shows 54k kilometers with true mileage unknown.
The 1.9-liter inline-four features dual Solex carburetors and was factory rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine was resealed under the current owners care with records provided.
