This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230S is finished in Grey Beige (716) over a Brown MB-Tex interior, and is an original US-market Fintail model. Power is provided by a replacement 2.3-liter inline-six equipped with dual Zenith carburetors and linked with a floor-shifted, 4-speed manual transmission. Additional features include 13″ steel wheels, matching hubcaps, US-market headlamps, power steering, Coco Mats, a heater, and a Kenwood cassette radio linked with an aftermarket audio system. The clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and spark plugs were replaced earlier this year, and a timing service was completed in February 2023. The current owner has owned the car since 2002, and this W111 Fintail is now offered on dealer consignment with a stamped maintenance log, its data card, records, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean California title.
Heckflosse, or Fintail, versions of the W111 chassis were built between 1959 and 1968. This example is finished in Grey Beige (716) and features chrome bumpers, chrome trim, vent windows, and a driver-side mirror. The selling dealer notes that paint touch-ups have been performed over the years and there is no evidence of rust anywhere on the body. The rear bumper shows some dents in the bottom chrome piece.
The 13″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings with painted center hub caps. Maxxis MA-1 tires were mounted at each corner in September 2023 and measure 185/80 all around. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the car is equipped with power steering.
The cabin is trimmed in Brown MB-Tex and is equipped with two-tone Coco Mats, a heater, and a Kenwood cassette radio linked with aftermarket speakers including in the rear parcel shelf. The brown dash is accented with woodgrain trim and carries over to the doorcards with a two-tone theme. The dash mounted analog clock is noted to be inoperable along with the instrument cluster lights. A 4-speed manual gear shift is mounted between the front seats and the seller notes the rear left window is stiff.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames vertically oriented instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, although total mileage is unknown.
The 2.3-liter inline-six was replaced under prior ownership and is linked to a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The engine features dual Zenith carburetors, and work in February 2023 included adjusting the valves and replacing the timing chain, tensioner, and camshaft gears. The spark plugs were replaced in May 2025 along with a full transmission service. Additional work at that time includes replacing the clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and gearbox seals. The driveshaft center bearing was replaced and the shaft was balanced at that time. Additional photographs of the underside are shown in the gallery below.
