This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230S is finished in Grey Beige (716) over a Brown MB-Tex interior, and is an original US-market Fintail model. Power is provided by a replacement 2.3-liter inline-six equipped with dual Zenith carburetors and linked with a floor-shifted, 4-speed manual transmission. Additional features include 13″ steel wheels, matching hubcaps, US-market headlamps, power steering, Coco Mats, a heater, and a Kenwood cassette radio linked with an aftermarket audio system. The clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and spark plugs were replaced earlier this year, and a timing service was completed in February 2023. The current owner has owned the car since 2002, and this W111 Fintail is now offered on dealer consignment with a stamped maintenance log, its data card, records, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean California title.
Heckflosse, or Fintail, versions of the W111 chassis were built between 1959 and 1968. This example is finished in Grey Beige (716) and features chrome bumpers, chrome trim, vent windows, and a driver-side mirror. The selling dealer notes that paint touch-ups have been performed over the years and there is no evidence of rust anywhere on the body. The rear bumper shows some dents in the bottom chrome piece.
The 13″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings with painted center hub caps. Maxxis MA-1 tires were mounted at each corner in September 2023 and measure 185/80 all around. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the car is equipped with power steering.
The cabin is trimmed in Brown MB-Tex and is equipped with two-tone Coco Mats, a heater, and a Kenwood cassette radio linked with aftermarket speakers including in the rear parcel shelf. The brown dash is accented with woodgrain trim and carries over to the doorcards with a two-tone theme. The dash mounted analog clock is noted to be inoperable along with the instrument cluster lights. A 4-speed manual gear shift is mounted between the front seats and the seller notes the rear left window is stiff.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames vertically oriented instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, although total mileage is unknown.
The 2.3-liter inline-six was replaced under prior ownership and is linked to a 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The engine features dual Zenith carburetors, and work in February 2023 included adjusting the valves and replacing the timing chain, tensioner, and camshaft gears. The spark plugs were replaced in May 2025 along with a full transmission service. Additional work at that time includes replacing the clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, and gearbox seals. The driveshaft center bearing was replaced and the shaft was balanced at that time. Additional photographs of the underside are shown in the gallery below.

This cool Fintail will sell today to the highest bidder. The reserve has been met. You can bid with confidence that you can own it.$15,250 bid placed by @aelkeles
Last day for this cool Fintail’s auction. I encourage all bidders to look at all 221 images to fully understand the condition and recent reconditioning of the car. And the documentation is excellent. The undercarriage is beautifully preserved due to its California prevenance. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. A California buyer will pay all applicable sales tax and license fees unless he/she is a currently licensed automobile dealer in the state. I can house the car at my gallery until the new owner is able to arrange trucking. Payment is to be completed via a bank wire within 3 business days of the auction’s close. Bidders should refresh their browsers regularly during the last minutes of the auction to insure they are seeing the latest bid. For those new to the auction process, be aware that any bid placed in the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the auction clock to 2 minutes. Waiting until the last seconds of the auction to bid is unwise because those bids may not be processed. Looking for a strong close here.@Johniwanna Well said. Thanks for clarifying.@Fattol10945 I bid on this car on a recent BAT listing that did not meet reserve. So yes, I have a pretty good idea of what it will take to buy the car and what we are willing to pay for it. Since I know the relative value and what it did NOT sell for at a recent auction, I bid what we are willing to pay. I do not know the seller aside from a phone call discussing the car post BAT auction. Based on that information, I have done nothing more than save time on my part. If you think this car was going to sell for less than what I bid, that is a bit fantastical. I hope this helps with your confidence to bid. However, whether you do or do not makes no difference to me.I’m new to this site but I don’t think I will bid on anything with confidence. What is the point of having an auction if someone will preemptively call the listing’s value, overbid it, thus inflating the price. Ebay and other sites would not allow this to happen as it becomes suspicious that someone known to the seller is purposely inflating their item value. You may think to yourself the item is worth 50K but if by means of interest, moment in time, market, you are able to buy for a reasonable fair price, why not? Now the item is at 5 K and you are allowed to jump the bid to 15K at one shot? And you were the one announcing the car should be sold for 20K is very suspicious. Sorry, not for me.$15,000 bid placed by @Johniwanna
