Thanks to all for the bidding on this nice 560SL. It will take more to buy the car than essentially what was spent to properly prepare the car. My friends at The MB Market can assist any interested parties that would like to buy the car.
Final day to own this attractive 1987 560SL. This is a nicely documented SL with extensive recent reconditioning. The car comes with all the documents shown in the listing including a top caddy, handbooks and tools. This SL will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. The car is stored in Burlingame CA, 5 minutes south of SFO. In the case of an out of state buyer, I can keep the car safe until pickup by the new owner’s trucking contact. Bidders should refresh their browsers regularly during the last minutes of the auction to insure they see the most recent bids. And for those new to the bidding process, it’s important to know that any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the auction clock to 2 minutes. Good luck to all!
@Stratner The auction ended as a no sale but you can contact the The MB Market if you're interested in purchasing the car. It's still available.
This is a lovely car that is definitely worth chasing.
Welcome to my 1987 560SL auction. The car is finished in perhaps the era's most popular color/trim combination of 702 smoke silver with `274 palomino interior. These colors are complemented with the brown soft top. The car presents itself beautifully and comes with handbooks, 2 keys, its original tool roll, a top caddy, and trickle charger. This SL was cost-no-object refurbished in 2023 with about $17k spent on all the typical 560SL loose ends. The items listed in the repair orders I scanned are what I typically need to address on most 560SLs that arrive at my dealership. The new owner will have immediate enjoyment with this SL, right down to new tires. The car behaves as a 560SL should. Feel free to contact me with any questions. The car can be inspected at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. Pre-purchase inspections can be organized locally. And global shipping can be arranged.
Final day to own this attractive 1989 560SL. This is a nicely documented SL that has had some important recent reconditioning. Being finished in blue green metallic sets it apart from all other 560SLs. The car comes with all the documents shown in the listing including a new set of floor mats, a top caddy, handbooks and tools.
TheGerman Thanks for the note. Yes, AC is R134. There have been misc. paint repairs to keep the car looking fresh over the years. Please look at all the images in the photo essay. There are 22 service repair order copies shown at the end of the photo essay. Images 153 and 155 reflect the latest service. All invoices are present. All body tags are in place and not one door hinge bolt, front fender bolt or deck lid bolt has been disturbed. Hope this helps.
Welcome all to my 560SL auction. I invite you to look carefully at all the images I provided and especially the maintenance documents. A number of important 560SL inspections and repairs were performed by Nick's Mercedes in 2001 which give the next owner confidence in the car's fitness. Feel free to contact me with any questions. It's a beautifully driving SL and everyone responds to the fabulous color. The car can be inspected at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. Pre-purchase inspections are available locally.
Thanks to all for supporting this special 280SL. While $47k is a very strong bid, it does not support the recent sales price of a similar car. Our marketing will continue.
Last day for this investment grade 280SL 5-speed. I encourage bidders to look at all the images to understand just how exceptional this SL is. Feel free to contact me with any questions. The new owner will receive all the documents shown in the listing and I'm happy to store the car as we await a trucker. I should also remind bidders that the true mileage is closer to 28,600 when we account for the 7,500 miles that were added to the odometer during the US certification process. This combined with the specification - leather, AC, cruise control, child's seat, small bumpers, power windows, burlwood, euro headlamps and of course the 5-speed gearbox - makes the car a unicorn here in the states. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. As I noted below the car is not California smog compliant hence can't be registered here unless purchased by a CA dealer. Bidders should refresh their browsers regularly during the final minutes to see the most current bids. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. Good luck to all!
wavydave Thanks for the note. The car is not certified for sale in CA as it lacks the important BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) door jamb sticker. It may be largely compliant having been fitted with EGR, O2 sensor and a catalytic converter but it would have to go to an authorized BAR vendor for the certification/modification process. An LLC would be the way to go for a CA resident.
Welcome all to my gorgeous 1985 280SL 5-speed auction. There is much to talk about with this car. It's most unusual in that it was imported to California as an essentially new car with not much more than delivery miles on the odometer. It saw essentially no use in Europe. This removes the speculation about mileage accuracy typical of 'grey market' imports of that era. It's important to note that the actual mileage is approximately 28,700. Most of you know that to import a new car in the '80s required an odometer reading of at least 7,500 miles. This was achieved by rolling the odometers of new cars forward the 7500 miles or so required. Doing the math on this car (36,124 - 7,500 = 28,624) we get below 29k miles. While it's impossible to be exact, this number more closely reflects actual miles. The specification is stunning and rare for a 280SL which was typically a down market SL in Europe. However, this car was equipped much like a US 380SL in period with leather, power windows, alarm, rear seat, electric windows, tinted glass and AC. My sense is that it must have been a special order in Belgium. We also see the deck lid insignia delete on the build sheet. And of course, the piece of equipment that sets the car apart is the 5-speed manual gearbox. Absent the 5-speed, the value and demand falls sharply. Mercedes-Benz does not offer build numbers for 5-speed 107s but we can be assured that very few were constructed. And and fewer were outfitted so lavishly. I've owned only 3 in 34 years. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I'll create a video in the next few days.
Many thanks to the bidders for doing their best to own this SL. The high bid essentially represents the money spent reconditioning on the car. So, I'll have to keep marketing.
Feel free to contact me with any questions today. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids as the auction draws to its conclusion. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. This triple black 500SL will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. The car is not emissions compliant in California, so it needs to go out of state unless you have a CA dealer's license. I'm happy to store the car in my Burlingame, CA gallery while trucking arrangements are made. Good luck to all!
Last day for this excellent 500SL. Keep in mind that I spent $20k+ addressing all the needs that are typically ignored on these cars. I chased all the usual loose ends: AC, cruise control, new steering box, timing chain, ignition components, engine/transmission/subframe mounts, fuel injectors, control arm bushings, etc. The transmission came out and was resealed and the rear main seal and transmission front pump seals were replaced. The instrument cluster was serviced by Palo Alto Speedometer. The car has a new soft top, new tires and restored alloys. And much more. It's ready for the tour and event season that's upon us.
To all: In fact, this 500SL is on a Michigan title and is NOT California smog legal. I missed this notation at the bottom of the vehicle description when reviewing the original draft. This is why the car retains most of its European spec horsepower.
Porschetick I agree. I've always enjoyed a great euro 500SL over a great 560SL. It was THE car to have in the '80s and more fully represents the spirit of the 107s. They're very quiet and silky smooth to drive with surprising power and torque. But it's essential that they have their original clean Euro look with flush headlamps, small bumpers and the unique tail spoiler. This car is a timeless classic SL.
@drosemont1 Do you mean the CarFax report? This car is not in their system.
@TheMBManiac Thanks for the note. I missed that in The MB Market's comments. I've always quoted Nitske's 240 HP (DIN) rating for a pure spec 500SL. I see 231 HP in the owner's handbook. It feels quite lively. This is a wonderful car that we spent enormous time and money on.
Thanks to all for the interest and bidding. A 27k mile 300SEL is simply worth more than the high bid. We're very close to a deal.
Last day to acquire this extraordinary 27k mile 300SEL. I added 8 repair order copies covering our extensive preparation after the car came out of storage. It's smooth and comfortable road car. You'll feel like you're driving a new 300SEL as you look around the amazingly preserved interior. Excellent, low mileage, 126 models will always be sought after. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids as the auction draws to its conclusion. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. This 300SEL will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. I'm happy to store the car in my Burlingame, CA gallery while trucking arrangements are made. Good luck to all!
I drove this 300SEL over the weekend and savored the vaultlike feel of the iconic 126 series cars. This car is especially taught with such low miles. I should mention the all important ID tags are present on all the individual sheet metal components: hood, both front fenders, all 4 doors and the deck lid. This is the first thing I look for when inspecting any MB of this era. My drive was a refreshing trip back into an era in which Mercedes-Benz was unrivaled regarding build quality. This era was the epitome of comfortable analog motoring. This is an opportunity to own an extremely low mileage example of a stylish icon of Mercedes-Benz's best years.
mdrei Thanks for the note. HVAC functions, heat and AC. AC was just serviced and has been converted.
Bgyula1977 Yes, will get undercarriage images today.
@Bgyula1977 The photo gallery is not presented. Have contacted my friends at MB Market to correct this.
@Bgyula1977 Thanks for the note. I'll get some undercarriage images shortly.
Looks spectacular to me. Professionally presented in every respect.
Thanks to all for supporting this auction. We'll continue marketing the car to realize a value that's commensurate to the quality of the car.
We're officially at the last day of this extraordinary 1981 300SD. We have a way to go before this car's full value is recognized so be sure to look carefully at the complete photo essay. The preservation here is mind boggling. Feel free to contact me with any questions. And as I mentioned yesterday, bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids as the auction draws to its conclusion. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. Good luck to all!
Slight revision: Tomorrow is the last day for this 300SD!
@rbassous The video you requested has been uploaded by our friends at The MB Market. You can now bid with confidence.
Morning All. It's the last day to acquire this superb 57k mile 300SD. The winning bidder will receive all the documents shown in the photo essay in addition to a 1981 300SD/380SEL new car brochure, 3 keys, and original key fobs. This SD certainly has to be one of the best examples in the US. It has a very high level of functionality and behaves beautifully on the road. Feel free contact me with any last-minute questions. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Non-dealer California buyers will pay appropriate sales tax/license fees. The car is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. I can assist with shipping and I'm happy to store the car as we wait for a trucker. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids as the auction draws to its conclusion. Bidders that are new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. Good luck to all!
@rbassous Will take care of this shortly.
@mdrei Thanks for the note and I apologize for the delay responding. The AC functions nicely and has been updated to R134 refrigerant.
@vido Yes, a PPI local to me is fine. There are a number of competent shops close to me.
@benzwishes Yes, there is a reserve here. Typically auctions will note 'No Reserve' prominently in the heading of no reserve auctions.
@Amat32 The 1982 300D is sold. [email protected]
Excellent activity here. Thanks to all for the support for this cool wagon. We're very close here so the marketing will continue.
@JoeyBenz08 Thanks for the note. No, not on all panels. RF fender shows area of refinishing, Rear quarter panel show refinishing with a probable blend partially into rear section of RR door. Hope this helps.
Morning All. It's the last day to acquire this superb 58k mile E320 wagon. A few details about this car: Full history from new - Handbooks - 2 keys - Head gasket just done - Verified wiring harness upgrade Excellent functionality - Roof rack cross bars - First aid kit - Tool roll - Cargo shade and net - Original unused spare wheel - Extraordinarily rare color - Leather interior. Feel free contact me with any last minute questions. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Non-dealer California buyers will pay appropriate sales tax/license fees. The new owner will receive all the documents shown in the auction images. The car is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. I can assist with shipping and I'm happy to store the car as we wait for a trucker. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly to insure they see the latest bids. And any bidder that is new to the live online auction scene should know any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the timer to 2 minutes. Good luck to all!
Thanks to all for the great comments and bidding. We're a bit short here so marketing will continue. For those also interested in an investment grade 1995 E320 wagon, my 57k mile Teal example is live on The MB Market as well. About 24 hours to go.
@hobbsm3 Thanks for the note. My sentiments completely, these are wonderful touring cars.
Morning All. It's the last day to acquire this extremely rare 280TE 5-speed wagon. If you miss this car, it will quite likely be a long time before another one comes to market. The new owner will have a unicorn in the 123 wagon realm.
@DrAMG Yes, I believe the modifications were reversed by J.G. Francis of Mercedes Motoring when he acquired the car. And I agree that it was a shame that this drivetrain configuration was not offered in the US.
To all: I just submitted a driving video and engine running video to MB Market. Should be live soon.
@zoccierampqt Thanks for the note. AC works nicely. Negligible leaks of any kind at the moment. Town an county horn also functions nicely.
@Mikeyy39 Thanks for the note. I measure paint depths on all my cars hence the disclosure. Right front fender has probably had a spot repair and been partially clear coated. Right quarter panel has been painted and blended a few inches forward into the RR door. The rest of the car measures factory correct. Hope this helps. Lovely car.
@cdwatnsu @manuelfangio_g @MBZTECH Thanks for the comments. I pulled the battery this afternoon and photographed the Delphi tag with a date of 05/11/2007. So, harness has been done. Uploaded an image to The MB Market. Should be visible in my photo essay soon.
@cdwatnsu You'll have to make that judgement yourself. You see what I see. There are no tags indicating a MFG date that I can see. The wiring at the connectors and the sheathing look unblemished so the presumption is that it has been replaced...
@shervinator Thanks for the tip on license plate. We don't have the European maintenance booklet. The US booklet is interesting in that it confirms the car's early arrival in the US. First stamp is for the 1k mile service performed at 1,022 miles on 9-22-84 in Northern California. Carpets were clearly replaced at some time and done extremely well. Probably done when MB Motoring acquired the car. And for what it's worth, there are 2 notations in the history binder of a "complete bottom up engine rebuild including blue printing at 180k miles." However, there is no repair order on file noting the rebuild. This is entirely probable based on the recent compression check and the excellent oil pressure I see as I drive the car.
@keller And to all; I just submitted a cold start video and a road test video and the compression check repair order to my friends at The MB Market. They should be live within 24 hours. Compression check was excellent at 120 lbs each cylinder stone cold. Hope all this helps.
@kellerWill provide those shortly.
Welcome to my 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280TE 5-speed auction. As many of you know, this is an exceedingly rare 123 wagon in the US. None were formally imported by Mercedes-Benz. I've been in the classic Mercedes-Benz business for 34 years and it's only the 2nd one I've found. This car combines all the best elements you could wish for in a 123 wagon: The full Euro look with tidy bumpers and flush headlamps The high compression Euro market 2.8 liter M110 twin cam six cylinder Factory sunroof, roof rack with original cross bars, 3rd seat, cargo shade/net Alloy wheels and the ultra-rare 5 speed manual gearbox. All these items are on the original build sheet. And crucially for California buyers, the car is certified here and has its all-important BAR compliance sticker. You can inspect the car at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes from SFO. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
@Atm111 Thanks for the note. Yes the car is available. You'll have to contact The MB Market for my contact information.
@BlendiYou'll have to contact The MB Market for my contact information. Happy to discuss a deal with you.
Thanks to all for supporting this 300D. Of course, we're far off a fair value here and the marketing will continue.
It's worth pointing out that between the original reconditioning in 2022 and my current work, over $14k has been spent to bring the car up to the high technical and cosmetic level you see today. This does not include acquiring the car...
@JollyG Thank for the note. Yes, the image was taken before caliper replacement. Coincidently, inspecting the car yesterday during a transmission service revealed a front caliper weeping, so we're installing 2 new ATE calipers and fresh pads up front as I write.
OK, looking better. Let's keep the momentum going!
@Jetson If there is no reserve on this and generally any live auction platform, a No Reserve declaration will be prominently displayed. There is a reserve on this auction.
Morning All. It's the last day for anyone who wants to acquire this fully prepared 123 turbo diesel in the rare - and now very hip - pastel grey. And an opportunity for anyone who values an original paint California from new example. I was visited yesterday by a German vintage Porsche expert who wanted to inspect the car for his son in Germany who is after a US spec 300D. He marveled at the level of preservation of both the undercarriage and exterior/interior cosmetics. He generally remarked that 'this does not exist in Germany'. Feel free contact me with any last minute questions. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Non-dealer California buyers will pay appropriate sales tax/license fees. The new owner will receive the handbook package shown, copies of all the individual repair orders shown and 2 keys.
I've been asked about the accessory functionality on this nice 300D. I chased just about everything that did not function correctly during the massive preparation performed in 2022. AC, heater, cruise control, vacuum locks, sunroof, power windows, radio, fader, power antenna, interior lights all function. Also recently replaced the fuel injection bleeder hoses recently. This is a turn-key 300D turbo!
@DS85051 Good questions. Factory power antenna works correctly and I just uploaded a blow-by video to @thembmarket. Should be visible shortly.
Morning all. I'm very happy to offer this cool 1982 300D to the classic Mercedes community via my friends at The MB Market. It's a great car with a very high level of functionality. I've put about 500 miles on the car since receiving it back from a special client as a partial trade against an investment grade 2001 E55. All the supporting documents are shown and all my reconditioning is also shown. Feel free to contact me with any questions. The car can be inspected and driven at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO.
Thanks to all for the spirited bidding. @samir1985 has bought a nice Pagoda and a piece of rock and roll history. And thanks to The MB Market for making this all happen.
I should mention that documentation of Pegi Young's ownership is via 3 documents: a California registration card from 2015 noting an address on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles, a registration card from 2019 same address, and an insurance card from 2019. The current title is in Pegi and Neil's daughter's name. And images of the car at the Broken Arrow Ranch will be included in the sale.
@mayart Thanks for the note. Regarding driving the car to LA, the answer is probably but I wouldn't recommend it. As I mentioned in the video, we addressed just the basics to make the car comfortable to demonstrate. I've put about 100 miles on the car with no issues. AC can be installed. The immediate solution is a Bud's Benz kit. Sourcing all the OE bracketry/hardware/under dash unit would take quite some time. Hope this helps.
Good morning to all! It's the last day for someone to own this attractive and solid 1970 280SL formerly owned by Pegi Young. Neil, Peggy and daughter Amber undoubtedly shared drives together in the car on the beautiful Skyline Blvd above the Broken Arrow Ranch in Woodside, CA. Thank you to @Shyk1965 and @Stardriver for moving things in the right direction. We still have some distance to go before we hit the pricing sweet spot and I encourage all bidders to review all the images. Note the car's general stance, excellent shut lines and panel gaps and the notes I made on images of important aspects of the structure. And note the rare originality of this SL's black MB tex interior. I'm happy to store the car until the winning bidder is able to arrange trucking. This car is being sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Bidders should refresh their browsers regularly to insure they're seeing the latest bids. New bidders should know that any bid in the last 2 minutes resets the auction clock to 2 minutes. Good luck to all bidders!
@Cardinal Good question. At some time in the car's life there was an engine issue which required replacing the engine block. The engine block in any Mercedes of this era was stamped with a 14 digit number and this number is noted on the data card for each automobile. You'll see that the "Motor-Nr" on the data card in photos 190 and 191 indicates 130983-12-012006. The prefix '130983' broadly indicates a 280SL engine. The '12' indicates an automatic transmission car. The last six digits '012006' indicates where that specific engine falls in the production sequence of 280SLs. Checking the engine in this car revealed an engine number of 113983-12-012552. Importantly, it is in fact a 280SL engine - as opposed to a slightly less powerful sedan engine with a prefix of 130980 - but one from a slightly newer 280SL built with an engine 546 units forward in the production sequence of the 23,885 280SLs constructed. And, importantly, it's an engine out of a 280SL also with an automatic transmission. Hope this helps.
@Anton I agree, the car can be enjoyed essentially as-is although it would make sense to take care of some pre-emptive reconditioning to be safe. This would include giving ignition components a good look as well as the cooling system just to prevent any surprises. We've done the basics.
Happy New Year to all! Someone is going to celebrate the New Year by owning this attractive 280SL. I recommend all bidders look carefully at all 197 images, particularly those of the various important structural areas that I've labeled.
Still plenty of time to secure this unique pure specification Pagoda!
@Vondutchbus Thanks for the support!
To all. Be sure to read paragraph 6 and read image 254 carefully regarding the exchange engine long block.
@mayart Thanks for the note. This is the first time this SL has been listing with my friends at MB Market.
Last day for this cool 280SL. Be sure to look at all the images as I photographed and labeled many key areas that constitute a proper 113 280SL. The car is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south the San Francisco Airport. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Non-dealer California buyers will pay all appropriate sales tax and license fees. Bidders should refresh their browser regularly in the last minutes to make sure they are seeing the latest bids. New bidders should remember that any bid placed in the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the auction clock to 2 minutes. Best of luck to all bidders.
I had the opportunity to drive this SL today putting about 50 miles on it to and from Burlingame Motors for leak down and compression tests. I have to say I was struck by how well it behaved on both the highway and the twisty roads to and from my client's house. Negligible steering free play, plenty of power and very taught suspension. The compression and % leak down are well within normal readings. Will post the repair order with results straight away.
I happy to offer this unique 1968 280SL 'Pagoda' to the classic Mercedes-Benz community. It's a car I know well and I'm happy to answer any questions that might arise. The car can be inspected at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - just 5 minutes south the San Francisco Airport. Pre-purchase inspections are available locally. The car will be sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Be sure to look at all the images as I photographed and labeled many key areas that constitute a proper 113 280SL.
We're within a few hours of someone being able to own this single family owned late series 190SL. The winning bidder will receive all the documents shown and the original unrestored hard top as well. This is one of the most carefully documented 190SLs I've handled. There are 61 years of receipts. And a few trophies! It's 'on the button' and ready for touring. I encourage bidders to review all 300+ images to fully understand the condition of the car. Non-dealer California residents will pay applicable tax and license fees. This 190SL is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. The car is sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. For new bidders, remember to refresh your browser regularly during the last minutes of bidding so you see the latest bids. And remember that any bid within the last 2 minutes of bidding resets the bidding clock to 2 minutes. Good luck to all bidders.
I attach a quick reminiscence of the car from the original and current owner's family: "Dad, Wilhelm Alfred xxxx aka Fred, was a young officer in Coast Guard when he ordered the 190SL in 1962 from the plant in Germany. Dad's father, Timm Alfred xxxx, and brother-in-law were going to Germany to visit relatives when Dad put in an order for the Mercedes. Dad said that they could drive it when they were in Germany. During its early years, the car was driven around Michigan while Dad captained ice breakers. Then driven to California where it was the daily driver on Hwy 1 performing lighthouse inspections for the Coast Guard. As all the servicemen, change of station were ~3 years involving moves from California to DC, back to the San Francisco Bay, Louisiana, DC and finally, back again to the City by the Bay and (the car was) retired for restoration. Dad did all the maintenance work on the car himself. He kept records in small notebooks of the mileage of each gas fill up and oil change. These records have been misplaced during the restoration. In 2008 Fred embarked on the restoration process of the 190."
@BigHAbsolutely. See images 242-246
Please have a look at the undercarriage images I just uploaded. They reveal how clean the car is underneath as well and shows the original honey colored protectant on various hardware and the very clean grey floors.
@ILLANOIZ I apologize for the late response. The car is at my Gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO.
This is the last day for someone to own this attractive and very low mileage 124 Cabriolet. These cars are always in style and they're another example of a Mercedes-Benz that is not only a recognized young classic but is also a car you can drive daily. I encourage bidders to review all 190+ images to understand just how exceptional this Cabriolet is. The new owner will receive 2 keys, the handbook packet shown, misc. service orders, and the precious original window sticker. Non-dealer California residents will pay applicable tax and license fees. This Cabriolet is sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. The car is located at my Gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. Good luck to all bidders.
@Stingray8429 Paint looks quite nice at the moment. I would characterize the paint quality as excellent "street condition."
@Stingray8429 Thanks for the note. There is nothing in the available service history indicating head gasket replacement or upper engine harness replacement. Inspecting the harness connectors of the front engine sensors reveals no visible wire failure. We resealed the front cam cover to correct a minor oil leak front engine area. Hope this helps.
@ClassicRides While the badge install on the steering wheel is well done, it was not on the car from the factory.
@ILLANOIZ The car is at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. Titled in California.
Welcome all to my latest auction, a triple black 1995 E320 Cabriolet with only 31k miles. There is a lot to like about this car and I encourage all bidders to have a look at all 208 images and the 3 videos. The car comes with a complete handbook packet and the original window sticker is on hand. Feel free to contact me with any questions. The car can be inspected at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes from SFO. Pre-purchase inspections are available locally as well.
This 124 Cabriolet is definitely worth fighting for. I would join the fray, but I have a twin with 31k miles...
Thanks to all for the nice comments and bidding. The feeling is that this wagon is generally not replaceable hence the family has opted to continue marketing the car.
Welcome @abramsg2000 !
We're within an hour of someone being able to own this investment grade 124 wagon. This is an opportunity that may not come up again for a long time. As I mentioned in the video, E320 wagons of this caliber are virtually impossible to find. Eminently usable, attractive and comfortable, a great 124 wagon is always in vogue. I encourage bidders to review all 250+ images to understand just how exceptional this wagon is. Non-dealer California residents will pay applicable tax and license fees. This wagon is sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Good luck to all bidders.
@dieseltom The car does not have the luggage rack cross bars.
@mbfan73 Central CA car all its life. Garaged all its life. Sparingly used. Please look at all 260 images particularly #s 228-246, preferably full size on a PC. No rust. Investment grade throughout.
@dieseltom Thanks for the note. Will check with my client and report back.
@roup1 The Wagon is registered through April 2024 so all is good.
@roup1 I can only presume the car was not being used. The owners lived out of the country and used the car when in Northern California.
@Jtwoods4 Good questions! The car was used when an out of country family periodically visited their property in Burlingame, CA. Thankfully I have a network that knows I'm looking for certain cars and I was tipped when it went to the detail shop I use here. I'm not familiar with DOT codes prior to 2000 but tires certainly could be original and of course need to be replaced. Lovely car with none of the hard use most 124 wagons suffered. Hope this helps.
Thanks to all for the comments and bidding. It takes a bit more to own it.
@Carbine123 All is revealed in photos 99 - 119
@Carbine123 Sure
Make that 1 day to go! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
Final day for this unique European spec 300TD wagon. I encourage all bidders to carefully look at the entire 270 images of the car and the videos so you can bid with confidence. And as MB Market noted last night, the car can't be registered in California. We made a serious effort to register it but it lacks one emissions sticker on the core support. The new owner will receive the AZ title in the name of the owner that imported the car and first registered it in May of 1985 and a bill of sale from the current owner to whom the title was assigned to. The new owner will also receive the extensive service history shown, the excellent original handbook package, the European emergency triangle and the original safety kit. The third seat is shrink wrapped and will be included in the cargo area as shown. This TD wagon will be sold as is, with no warranty implied or otherwise. I'm happy to refer the new owner to a reliable shipping broker to facilitate the out of state delivery. The car is located at my gallery in Burlingame, 5 minutes south of SFO. Be sure to refresh your screen regularly during the last minutes of the auction so you see up to date bidding activity. And as most of you know, any bid placed within the last 2 minutes of the auction resets the auction clock to 2 minutes. Best of luck to all bidders.
@sowmsarvind Thanks for the note. These rubber drains are on both sides of the car. They vent moisture from inside the rocker chambers. Pretty clever.
Great result for a great car. Thanks to all bidders and congratulations to @Munichhero. You have bought a most extraordinary CL65. And thanks to my friends at The Mercedes Market for creating this great platform.
Last day for this rare CL65. Thanks to all for the bids and comments so far. I invite bidders to look at all 195 images so you have a complete picture of this CL. This is an opportunity to own 1 of only 40 examples produced globally - 20 for the US and 20 for Europe. As years go by I feel this car will be regarded as one of the rarest and most fascinating modern AMG models. It will be forever recognizable by its other worldly Alubeam paint. And notable as a car with one of the highest MSRPs in Mercedes' passenger car history! It pays to refresh your screen regularly in the closing minutes of the auction so you have an up-to-date view of bidding and time remaining for the auction. Don't wait until the last minute to bid and risk loosing this extraordinary CL65. The new owner will receive the full handbook package shown, two keys, misc. service invoices, and the full factory internal VMI report. The car is being sold as-is with no warranty implied of otherwise. California residents will pay appropriate tax and license fees. I can assist with shipping via my long time broker if necessary. The car is located at my gallery in Burlingame, CA - 5 minutes south of SFO. Good luck to all bidders.
@570TE I did not receive invoices related to the list of servicing the seller provided me. However, the CarFax entries support the services noted. Yes, MZF did cycle the suspension through the suspension 'rodeo' via their test software and their were no issues in the system. And I've had no ABC issues during my driving.
@MBFahrer Thanks for the note. We have to accept tonal differences in certain lights when plastic bumper covers are refurbished. It's a fact of life. And the one-off Alubeam Silver is particularly difficult to match due to the fact it requires an entirely different process to paint than standard metallic paint. It has twice the metallic content of any other metallic and requires 2-3 times the amount of clear. If fact I was particularly happy with the result given the lengthy process dictated by Alubeam. The difference is very subtle in most lights. It has an otherworldly glow.
@dduanee Good man!
@mbz2000 Thanks for the note. Yes, image 207 is a printout of the Monroney label's raw data. This includes all the option code numbers and attendant descriptions in addition to the paint code etc. The important codes here are the options - P97, H73, 793 and the specific price components of this special car. Suggested list price in the US was indeed $298,775. There are articles online supporting this price. Hope this helps.
Thanks to all for the bidding and comments. It takes just a little bit more to own this car.
Keep in mind that I spent about $5k to bring the car to its current level, cosmetically and technically. A buyer will receive all these documents.
@Smyth Should be fine. The car has been carefully inspected and serviced and is ready for touring.
@@Davidsbenz560 My broker estimates $1,700 open and $2,550 enclosed...
@Davidsbenz560 I haven't heard from my shipping broker but I would estimate $1,600 open transport and $2,200 enclosed to NJ.
I just uploaded a driving video for this 300SE.
Just a few hours to go for this lovely fully documented California from new 300SE. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
@Smyth The Bedker Mexico AM/FM Cassette was MB's most sophisticated radio at the time.
@Davidsbenz560You'll have to direct message me. I don't think MB Market allows phone #s to be exhanged via comments.
@Ferdi Images 20 and 23 show the complete right and left quarter panels. These two panels were painted at some time in the car's life based on my paint depth readings this morning. Not much to see because the work was done well regarding color match and texture. Hope this helps.
To all. After measuring paint again this morning, I find that the deck lid has NOT been painted but both adjacent quarter panels have been painted. This was my error when describing the car during the listing process. The rest of the car's paint depth readings indicate original paint.
@Ilovebigtoys Thanks for the note. I'm a 33 year classic MB dealer handling the entire range of unique MBs, from 300SL Gullwings to...300SEs. You're welcome to contact me privately via the Contact Seller link and I'm happy to assist with any other questions you might have. @Ferdi I'll have a video up in a few days. It's a two owner California car.
@Davidsbenz560Thanks for the note. AC is ice cold. None of the typical seat sagging. All feels correct. I've owned at least 75 126s so I'm sensitive to this.
Thanks to all for the great comments and bidding. And congratulations to @DesertRat for a hard fought win. This is a sweet little car.
I was just contacted regarding whether or not the cruise control functions. It works nicely...
@SamSl Thanks for the note. I sold the car the day after the auction ended for $15k. You can find my inventory at mercedesheritage.com. Regards, Roy
Thanks for the comments and bidding. Very close but not quite there for such a rare car. I'm happy to have a discussion with any interested party regarding a sale. MB Market can connect us.
We have a ways to go here. Keep in mind I spent over $7k improving this rare 123 Wagon. All my service invoices will come with the car. I received the plastic fitted dash cover and will include that in the sale. The car is immediately usable and drives beautifully.
The car smogged no problem yesterday so a California resident can buy the car with confidence. Compression readings cold are (1-6): 115/110/120/110/115/120. We also installed the correct driver's side under dash panel - found it in Croatia!
@tcstraker No problem. Tires are dated 45th and 46th week of 2020. One is not dated but identical to the other 3 with regard to type and wear.
Thanks for the note @tcstraker. In fact when the radio is turned off, it swivels 180 degrees and does look like a blank off plate. Clever function to foil would-be radio thieves. Climate control works correctly at the moment with heat and ac. No warning lamps on. Headlights seem to be aimed well. Additionally; clock/passenger outside mirror/fog lights/rear window power switches/various gauges/front courtesy lamp function as well. Hope this helps.
I just purchased a solid fitted dash cover for this car. It will be included with car. Compression readings coming shortly.
Some background on this rare 280TE. According to Nitske's MB Production Models book, 1,329 280TEs were constructed in 1985. And of course, all those cars were European models. MB never imported a gasoline 123 wagon to the US, much less the top-of-the line 280 model. We received the now iconic 300TD models. Great turbocharged TDs bring a premium today. A US 300TD produced 123 HP while the Euro 280TE produced 185 HP, a full 34% increase over the turbodiesels. Nor were there any manual gearbox US models ever offered here. If you parse the possible number of similar cars now sitting in the US, the number is exceedingly low. Particularly accounting for the 5-speed gearbox. I doubt there are more than a handful of 280TE wagons in the US of any configuration. In my 31 years of business, I've seen only 1 other 5-speed TE. It was offered to me on consignment about a year ago with an asking price of $45k. It was far ahead of this Thistle Green car cosmetically but had the same mileage and felt generally the same. Ultimately the owner changed his mind about selling, noting he'd never find another one...
Thanks to all for the comments and bidding. A 98% original paint 106k mile fully documented and well sorted 300SD needs to bring a bit more than the high bid here. We'll keep marketing the car. Keep an eye out for my ultra-rare 1985 280TE Euro wagon coming to MB Market soon.
I should mention that we largely corrected the 2 spots of discoloration in the rear footwells. Looks much better now.
I agree with @Awismot and @thewandering280e Pastel Grey is a very elegant color. I sold a spotless 82 300D in pastel grey/blue mb tex earlier in the year.
Thanks to all for the comments and bidding. Takes a bit more to own this rare 123 diesel. I don't expect to find another one.
@fiatspider I would say yes, anytime an odometer comes out of a car and is modified/changed etc. we would have to consider the mileage to be TMU. And I meant the new MPH odometer with zero mileage on it potentially would have been advanced to register the mileage equivalent to the KM showing on the discarded Euro odometer.
@clonski I tried to run a CarFax when I acquired the car but it was not in the database.
@fiatspider Thanks for the note. Your comments regarding the specification of the car are self-evident to the community. To my knowledge the prevailing practice when converting a 'grey market' car at that time was to advance the mileage on the new MPH speedometer head to reflect the KM on the car at the time of conversion. Contrary to MB Market's comment in the first paragraph, the car was in fact imported in 1984 as per the 'asterisk year' on the CA title of 1984. Comparing the build date of approx 01/84 with its first registration date in CA of 05/14/84 we can conclude the car had negligible use before being sold to my client. That said, you are correct in noting there can be vagarities with mileage on gray market cars. Hope this helps.
@clonski A new radiator was installed subsequent to the comments of high temps (11/06/09 @123,906 miles). Temps today are normal. I will upload images of paint depth readings which will reveal minor paint repairs over the years. As noted in the photo essay, hood, door, front fender, deck lid bolts never disturbed. I don't have compression readings.
Observations on this cool 300D’s gearbox: Intermittent low speed rumble only while idling along in 1st or 2nd gear. And balky 1st – 2nd upshift only after first start of the day with cold gearbox. We’ve chased both with new axles and differential/transmission fluid changes with some improvement. So, some gearbox wear after 161k miles. Will load a driving video tomorrow.

@mayart Thanks for the note. Regarding driving the car to LA, the answer is probably but I wouldn't recommend it. Good morning to all! It's the last day for someone to own this attractive and solid 1970 280SL formerly owned by Pegi Young.

I encourage bidders to review all 250+ images to understand just how exceptional this wagon is. Non-dealer California residents will pay applicable tax and license fees. This wagon is sold as-is with no warranty implied or otherwise. Good luck to all bidders.

@fiatspider I would say yes, anytime an odometer comes out of a car and is modified/changed etc. we would have to consider the mileage to be TMU. And I meant the new MPH odometer with zero mileage on it potentially would have been advanced to register the mileage equivalent to the KM showing on the discarded Euro odometer.
