This 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300GD was originally sold new to the French Military before being imported to the United States and later purchased by its current owner in 2019. It was previously listed by the current owner in an auction on The MB Market before being consigned to the selling dealer in 2023. Finished in its original Green Camo paint over Black vinyl, power is provided by a 3.0-liter five-cylinder diesel engine sending power to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Features include front lockable differentials, fog lamps front and rear, a trailer hitch with a trailer plug socket, seatbelts for all four seats and a lockable glove compartment. The current owner had work performed to the interior including black vinyl upholstery, black carpets and Dynamat sound deadening. The truck will receive an oil change by the owner before the sale with the most recent oil change occurring 1k Km ago. The serpentine belt was replaced in November 2023. Now showing just 43k kilometers (~27k miles), this 300GD is offered for sale by the consigning dealer with the original import bill and a clean Florida title.
The exterior wears the original Green Camo finish and features fog lights front and rear along with a trailer hitch and trailer plug socket at the rear. A zinc coating as well as a fresh coat of black paint was recently applied to the frame under current ownership. The seller notes that some rust is present near the roof.
18” five-spoke alloy wheels from a later W463 are fitted and wear a satin black finish wrapped in Yokohama Geolander all-terrain tires measuring 265/60 on all four corners. A full-size spare is mounted to the rear door.
The cabin was reupholstered in Black vinyl which lines the seats, door panels and headliner. Matching black carpets have been fitted along with Dynamat sound deadening to reduce road noise. All four seats are fitted with seatbelts. Interior features include climate control with a front windshield defroster, lockable front differentials, manual windows and a lockable glove compartment. Mounted on the center console is a manual hand brake, controls for the four-wheel drive system, the gearshift for the 5-speed manual transmission and two cup holders. The current owner had an AC system installed and notes that it is currently not functional.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 180 km/h speedometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Lights for the differential lockers can be found mounted in the center. The five-digit odometer currently reads 43k kilometers (~27k miles) with just 1k kilometers added by the current owner.
This G Wagen is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-five cylinder diesel engine which is factory rated at 87 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The car will receive an engine oil change before sale by the current owner with the most recent oil change being performed within the past 1k kilometers.
The invoices from the interior work are included by the seller along with photos of the old interior included in the photo gallery. Photos of the zinc coated and painted frame have been included as well. This 1980 300GD is now offered for sale in Miami, Florida with the original import bill and a clean Florida title in the owner’s LLC.

@kfine @mercedesmike Yes, we wanted to present the vehicle with how it currently sits versus what any database will pull up. Thank you for your input in this auction and the previous auction @kfine. We hope this information helps with your purchase decision, let us know what additional questions we can answer for you.
@mercedesmike Check out my comment on the previous auction regarding the vin being civilian 460. My best guess is this is a 460 frame swapped with a 461 military body. Engine doesn't match frame year or vin and doesn't match body. Transfer case part number is 460 300GD though.
@HurstT I appreciate this comment. Sick wagon, we shall see what happens.
@rhoskins...even safer to assume that's for the seller to know and you to find out when the auction ends. Bid often and bid high. A truly classic G-wagon. GLWTA
Safe to assume your reserve is still $32,500?
Per the supplied VIN via Mercedes EPC, and implied by the 3.0L auction text, this should have an OM617 engine, but appears to have an OM605, which would be a 2.5L. Any insight regarding this discrepancy? I think its an improvement, to be clear, but odd.
@Rockster80 Current owner has several other cars in his collection and just hasn't gotten around to having the AC system recharged. The system is fully functioning and blows cool air but certainly could be colder. A simple Ac recharge should correct the issue. But to be clear the AC system is complete and currently in working condition (blowing).
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to our auction for a 1980 Mercedes 300GD ex-Military unit. Since the last time the car was auctioned, the vehicle has been properly upkept but driven few miles since then. Vehicle is serviced and ready to be enjoyed. Please let us know what additional questions we can answer to help with your bidding or purchase decision. Good luck!
I went back to the original auction.....over 9 months and no attempt to remediate the a/c issues.....
What is the reason behind the non-functioning a/c??
