This 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500 was reportedly sold new in November 2000 by Mercedes-Benz of Sarasota and shows 3 total owners since new, all in the Sarasota, Florida area. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Gray Leather (238), this S500 features factory Xenon headlamps, heated front seats, factory COMAND, and an electric sunshade for the rear glass. Power comes from a 5.0-liter M113 V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Service history records accompany this car documenting the work performed during the seller's ownership which includes replacement of all four air struts. The seller has added 46k miles since 2015 and the car now shows just under 117k miles in total. This S500 is offered by the seller with factory literature, an original tool kit, two remote key fobs, an accident-free Carfax, and a clean Florida title.
Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744), the body features matching gray lower trim and chrome accents around the beltline and bumpers. The paint and finish has been described as very good condition and the passenger side rear door & associated trim was replaced in Jan 2018 due to damage in a parking garage when vehicle made contact with a concrete column.
Factory chrome 16” seven-spoke alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Premier A/S tires measuring 225/60 all around with 2018 date codes. The wheels are reportedly free from bends, curb rash, or blemishes. The seller states the air struts have all been replaced during their ownership.
The cabin is trimmed in Gray Leather (238) accented by the original Burl Walnut wood trim on the center console, doors, and dashboard. The original floor mats and rear passenger footrests have been retained and are presently installed. Features include multi-contour and heated front seats, an electric sunroof and rear sunshade, and premium sound. The rear seats feature controls for the rear sunshade along with drop-down vanity mirrors and fold-out ash trays in the rear door cards. The car remains fully original and still retains the factory COMAND with navigation. Cracks in the driver seat leather and plastic recline cover are noted. The seller also states the passenger side sun visor is sagging. The blower motor and regulator were both replaced in 2019.
The digital odometer shows just under 117k original miles, 46k of which have been added by the seller since 2015. Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and a digital odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, coolant temperature and a digital clock. The seller notes the backlighting of the odometer intermittently flickers and the SRS light is currently illuminated.
The 5.0-liter M113 V8 was rated at 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired with a 722.6 automatic five-speed transmission. Recent service within the last 12 months includes a new EIS and EIS sensor, rear level sensor and linkage, a new battery, and an oil and filter service.
The Carfax report lists 63 service history records along with linear mileage updates and registration in Florida since new. This W220 is now offered with factory literature, an original tool kit, two remote key fobs, partial service records, and a clean Florida title.
The W220 hasn't reached the popularity of the previous S-Class generations but upcoming buyers are beginning to appreciate the well-maintained examples as rare finds due to their unparalleled comfort and drivability. With a stack of documented services performed by the seller over the years, this S500 qualifies. This means these cars are currently sitting in a sweet spot for buyers and still offer a myriad of creature comforts and useful options 20 years later. We hope this car finds a home with someone who understands the value proposition this former flagship offers and will appreciate this S500 as the future classic it is.
