This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL was sold new in Vero Beach, FL in January 1991 with subsequent registration in Georgia, South Carolina, and now North Carolina since 2007. Finished in Black (040) over Palomino (274) leather, power is provided by a 3.0L DOHC 24v M104 inline-six backed by a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, power windows and mirrors, a black fabric soft top, rear parcel shelf with storage compartments, acceleration skid control (ASR), and a matching removable hardtop. This R129 now shows 96k miles from new and is offered by the seller with original manufacturer’s literature, tool roll, original keyfob, a recent Carfax report, and a clean North Carolina title.
The exterior is finished in Black (040) with contrasting dark grey lower cladding and features integrated fog lamps, headlight washer/wipers, ribbed taillight lenses, a panoramic windshield wiper, an automatic antenna, a retractable black fabric soft top, and a color-matched removable hardtop. The seller notes rock chips along the front hood, a dime-sized ding in the driver-side pillar of the hardtop, and various imperfections on the sky-facing panels. The soft top shows a tear in the rear plastic window and some fraying along the bottom of each rear corner. Pictures show the hardtop and soft top in detail along with videos showing the soft top in operation.
OEM 16” wheels wear Kumho Ecsta Supra tires measuring factory-spec 225/55 on all four corners. The tires show 2004 date codes and show well despite the age. A full-sized spare wrapped in an original Pirelli P600 tire is housed in the trunk along with the original tool roll from the factory.
The power-adjustable front seats feature memory settings and are upholstered in Palomino (274) leather with matching door panels, center console, carpeting, and a hard boot cover. The dashboard is finished in black, and burl wood trim accents the center stack, shifter surround, and doors. Cracks are noted on the wood trim around the shifter and window switches, and the driver seat back bolster has been previously redyed. Amenities include automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, and a Becker Grand Prix 2000 AM/FM/cassette stereo.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a central 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows just over 96k miles.
The 3.0L 24v DOHC M104 inline-six produced 228 horsepower and 201 lb-ft of torque when new and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. The seller states that occasionally upon cold start the throttle needs to be feathered for the first few seconds and two cold start videos are provided. A new battery was recently installed in September 2022 and the seller notes the hood pad needs to be replaced.
The Carfax report shows an accident reported in 2010 in which no airbags deployed. Registration history shows Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina from new. This R129 is now offered with original manufacturer’s literature, tool roll, original keyfob, and a clean North Carolina title.
Videos below display the tops in operation, cold starts, driving footage, and a walk around of the car.

I agree that is a great color combination, the car looks very nice, and the driving video suggests the engine is in good shape. There do seem to be some problem areas. The walk around video shows the driver side headlight is cockeyed, indicating the after accident repair was not 100%. The condition of the soft top, including the stained and fraying headliner, shows that replacement might be a good idea. Most important, at roughly 96k, the car could be nearing the point where head gasket replacement is required. It’s well known that many of the in-line sixes in the 90’s SLs experience head gasket failure somewhere between 100k-200k.

@Mecho69 Thank you! That is just a reflection from the tree behind it although I do see how it appears cloudy in the photo. Hopefully the video helps to confirm that it's just the reflection.
Hi seller, beautiful car. In pic #44 is that paint imperfection on the roof or just reflection from the trees? Thx and GLWS.
