This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300SL was originally a German-market example that was sold into a Japanese collection. The current owner purchased the car in 2024 and imported it to the United States. This R107 is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Red Leather and is powered by a 3.0L M103 inline-6 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes a paint-matched removable hardtop with electric defrost, folding soft top, automatic climate control with A/C, power windows and cruise control. Additionally, modifications include a leather wrapped dashboard and center console, a Momo steering wheel, 16” AMG Penta wheels, and an AMG-style muffler. The seller notes recent services to include a fuel service, A/C service, and oil service under their care. This 300SL now shows 8k kilometers (~5k miles) and is offered for sale with importation documents, recent service records, and a clean Texas title in the owner’s name.
The exterior is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with chrome trim along the beltline, windows, and hardtop. European-market glass headlamps and bumpers are shown on the car and remain in good condition with no notable flaws. Included is a paint-matched removable hardtop with a heated rear window. Both door mirrors also include heated glass with the passenger side being power adjustable. The black soft top shows well and the rear window remains clear. Detailed photos of the body and paint can be seen in the gallery below.
The car wears 16” AMG Penta wheels painted in matching Black Pearl Metallic (199) and accented with machined lips. The wheels wear Toyo tires measuring 205/55 and 245/45 front to rear with 2023 date codes. Braking is handled by discs behind each wheel.
The cabin, while originally finished in Medium Red Leather (277), has been retrimmed in a more vibrant Red Leather and highlights a black leather-wrapped dashboard. Original Burl wood veneer remains present in good condition. Features include an aftermarket Momo steering wheel, automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control and an outside temperature indicator mounted in the dash. The seller notes the radio turns on automatically when the car is started but can be turned off if desired. All electrical systems and functions operate as intended including the automatic climate control, air conditioning, and hardtop defrost.
The Momo steering wheel frames white-dialed instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer which also houses the analogue odometer reading 8k kilometers (~5k miles). Other gauges include a tachometer, fuel level indicator, fuel economy indicator, oil pressure, coolant temperature and an analogue clock. Below sit a row of warning lights alongside the controls for the resettable trip odometer.
This 300SL is powered by a 3.0-liter M103 inline-six which produced 185 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 722.3 4-speed automatic. The seller notes recent services to include a fuel service, A/C service, and oil service under their care. The underbody presents very clean with photos provided in the gallery.
The Carfax shows first entry in 2024 when the car was imported to Canada from Japan, followed by registration and title issuance in Texas in 2025. Congratulations to the seller and high bidder for agreeing to a sale post auction at $35,000.If I owned this not sure I'd let it go for that number either. Good luck possibly working out a deal post auction.True dat! Or at least how close to reserve the market is currently willing to bid.@zachmac Seeing as market comps are nearly non-existent for 300's the market will be made here!$31,500 bid placed by @BossHogg

Hopefully someone with more $ to burn than me will buy it, drive it A LOT, and then resell it to me! BTW @hobbsm3 I still like that blue over velour SEC that didn't meet reserve about a year ago!@zachmac - Fair enough!@hobbsm3 but I like to put 10,000 miles a year on convertibles here in SC! Like I said, it’s a beauty but not for my intended use.Hy @zachmac - good point, but you could put a 1000 fun km a year and still be around the 13k km mark in 5 years. Or under 10k milesThis is a cool color combo and excellent example of a car hard to find in the US. But the mileage being so low makes it a tough buy / sell unless someone wants to park it in a collection. I’d want to drive it; a lot. But paying a premium for super low miles and then driving it are at odds. GLWA$18,500 bid placed by @speedyellow

@hobbsm3 Thanks@quantumorbit - Please see attachedThe CarVX report has been added to the end of the gallery.@hobbsm3 Thanks. Can you please share that report or online link ?@quantumorbit- There was a report that was pulled from Japan when I bought the car that showed progression of miles. Given the low miles, it only had a few mileage entries, but they were chronological, with the last reading just under 8k km.Nice looking R107. Besides the condition of car, is there any paper evidence supporting the mileage to be 5k ? Thanks$17,750 bid placed by @speedyellow

Hi everyone, last day of the auction. Please reach out with any questions. As you can see from the pics, I am a huge Classic and premerger AMGs. This car has been in good company with its stablemates. Being a Euro fan, I also have 86 500SL that will keep me company. Good luck all!$17,000 bid placed by @Sunrise7
@GoBoGo - thank you! I wouldn't really change anything either. It is a sharp looking car!!@zachmac - AC works great and is cold. Soft top is in great shape and works as intended@StudioDude two questions: AC status soft top work at intended? You know what I'd change on this one? NOT A DAMN THING! Just wow! Wish I still needed a toy as this is (IMHO) PERFECT (maybe an updated stereo but wow, this is LOVELY). Good luck!$16,250 bid placed by @lpicars
That plate got me excited until I read it's a vanity plate, Glad someone asked prior to me bidding, I've ran into a similar issue before where some seller added a fake emissions sticker in CA.$16,000 bid placed by @Fresher

@StudioDude - it was purchased this way and done to a high degree by the previous original owner. The blue is just part of the fuel pump, and yes it was replaced when it was in transit in Canada, by the dealer that I used to facilitate the import. Unfortunately, as it was with most of the cars I have imported from there, I didn't get much in the way of records.Did you do the interior re-fit? The fuel pump/filter seems to have some blue tape on it. Did you replace it? Do you have any records of maintenance/repairs made prior to your ownership in Canada or Japan? No that's just a vanity plate - always loved the black with yellow lettering. It was never in CAWas this car ever registered in CA? (It’s wearing a CA plate in the photos)$11,000 bid placed by @NG1000

@Abugardt - yes absolutely, send me a message and we can work out the details.Love it and would like to see it in person. This weekend maybe? I am in Houston as well.Hi everyone and welcome to my 300SL auction. As you may know, these were never sold in the US. Upto 1985, a 280SL was offered and a few gray market cars made it stateside. For the 1986 model year, the 300SL with the venerable M103 motor replaced the iconic but aging M110 unit. So this one represents a rare Euro/ROW Gen 2 variant with a nimble powerplant. Not to mention the awesome Euro bits (bumpers/lights/headlight wipers) I was very attracted to the color combo and style when I first saw it. The red is very striking, but not over the top. The Pentas give it a nice aggressive look. Everyone who has seen it in person has also agreed - it garners a lot of attention at cars and coffee events. @assistboy - its just the style that the muffler from AMG would look like in the period. Its a stainless steel unit that sounds good and not loud at all. Thanks @dcook for starting us out!love the resto mod approach to this build. can you tell me more about the exhaust? what is an amg-style muffler?$250 bid placed by @dcook
What an absolute beauty!
