I remember driving a C43 Sedan in Lexington, KY. My parents were picking up their 2000 S430 (and going through all the "COMMAND" training) so I took out a C43--the acceleration was intoxicating! I remember going through all sorts of mental gymnastics trying to figure out how to buy one but finally came back to earth and realized I couldn't manage the payment at the time so I happily kept driving my '91 300D--which is evidently still alive, despite my grandson's best efforts to kill it, well past 250K miles. This is really nifty; hope it sells strongly! GLWTA!
This is so cool! Sorry I'm not a bidder but I am curious how hard it is to remove the roof, etc.? Photos would be an amazing add? Curious if you had any idea about the original mileage on the frame, etc. Again, this is super cool; someone is going to buy a fun toy! GLWTA!
@Stuttgart_SteelA close family friend in KY had a lovely chocolate brown 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet that was his daily driver. I believe he noted it had over 300K miles on it in later conversations... Such classic examples! GLWTA!
Stunning....
Odd location for the 3rd brake light on the trunk? Pretty car; someone may get a steal here...
Confusing photos of the headliner--the light gray with the sagging seems to be this car; the later photo that looks like dark gray alcantara seems like a much newer vehicle (maybe an S class?) Regardless of that, this car seems well sorted overall; just now broken in based on the mileage. I think my grandson has well over 255K on my 91 300D (though it is trashed in comparison to this beauty, bumpers and all). Wondering aloud why the sunroof doesn't work? Good luck with this!
These wheels MADE my 91 300D W124... Love them! Wish a had a 560SEC or SEL to do them justice!
Wow, stolen! A beauty! (there is some fool with an Ad in Hemmings asking 6 figures for theirs.... um, no. Not yet, anyway!)
@CshaiHow fun that would be.... running around Europe in this beast (or any of this dealer's other offerings). A man can dream; perhaps I'll buy a lotto ticket later (it's a nice day in ATL to drop the top in the Boxster...)
This is just a curious question, I am not a bidder (I wish!) Since this car is in already in Germany, could you do something analogous to European Delivery back in the day? Meaning, fly to Germany, pick it up and drive throughout Europe on vacation and THEN ship to the us?
What, no photo near the Big Chicken? Lol, this is a beauty!
Love the initial bids... not that I'm bidding but you should be starting around $20-25K.... just saying ; ) THIS is amazing!
What an amazing looking car. Money spent; money worth it! Good luck; this one is special!
Just damn...
...someone is going to steal this. One of my few regrets in life was not buying my late dad's Nautical Blue/Palomino 300SDL (with 134K miles when offered to me in 1998 or so) We had that 300D at the time and I thought having 2 diesels was silly. Big mistake : ( At least my grandson still has the 300D (with over 250K miles, ripped seats, faded paint and all....)
My 1991 W124 had the same seats and same 'malaise' (but again, after 200K miles). I love this! My wife would kill me if I bid (even at the current amount) as my 3 vehicles to her 1 is a bit much : ) A lovely beauty; I guess I haven't passed it on Buford HWY or it would have turned my head for sure. I am curious about the driver's door-it looks slightly out of alignment and the silver handle on the interior seems 'off' as well? Just questions from the peanut gallery... Only word I can think of for this car is HANDSOME. As the cliche goes--they don't make them like they used to! This still has a lot of life left!
Love the panoramic roof but definitely need to see the soft top (in action as well). Ditto for @cjaubert question re: roof components. Finally, please share photos of all the Silver Arrow 'toys' that come with the car! THANKS and GLWTA! Bo
AMG? no, OMG! Beast!
@ferrari1971Meanwhile, if I had the cheddar to bid on this (I don't) I would most likely have the cheddar to outfit it with the perfect upgrade--HRE 301's or 540's ; ) https://www.hrewheels.com/wheels/540-series/540
These wheels really 'pop' on this car. Sometimes the black on black on black on black is too much; this is 'just right'. Good luck, what a beauty!
Not in the market but amazed how much the Seller is MIA. I predict a RNM auction here.... Just sayin...
OMG this is awesome....!
These wheels MADE my 91 300D (even though mine were 16's) Upgraded look and just enough difference than AMG's (Cheaper at the time, circa 1995). The factory MB center caps are a direct fit with these, FWIW. Good luck with these; great memories! (meanwhile, grandson still driving that diesel, with over 250K miles. Survived my Mom for 4 years, me for over a decade, my son in high school and daughter for a year, back to me, then passed to grandson at 243K miles)
And fail.
'Theft' in progress?
We had a 1999 base ML320 in the same exterior color (tan interior, with the gray exterior trim); I always thought it made a great SUV but not a great 'Mercedes' (e.g. interior materials were too cheap to hit the original price point). Later models made up for it though (this one shows some wear and tear but the materials were nicer than mine). I drove it until passing it off to my son (one replaced hood due to rear-ending someone at a stoplight later...) The transmission failed after 165K or so when daughter had it; put in a used transmission and it kept rolling until she finished high school and we still sold it for around 2K (we bought her a new car to drive to/from college). Bottom line, it was a solid vehicle and took our abuse. While this one has been 'used' well, it still shows nicely and would make an excellent (if not 'spirited') daily driver for someone! Hope this is successful for the seller, honest presentation.
Beautiful car, presents well (and the color combo is outstanding!) Just a gripe from the peanut gallery that it's very hard to see the close-up photos of the exterior, IMHO. The photogenic shots outside are phenomenal, but the close- up shots in the garage have too many distractions from the ground, overhead lights, etc. (they look like scratches at first glance). But that's just me griping : ) LOVELY car; jealous of the eventual buyer! Good luck!
This car is already worth 5K more because it's not black, gray, white or smoke silver IMHO : ) LOVE these!
... this from a guy who removes all his badging from the trunk, except for the star ; )
An added dealer sticker? Shame on you... Nice looking, otherwise!
AMG? More like OMG! So if I hit the lotto tonight... LOVE THIS!
@jago_mb Um.... no clue? Please share now that you have me curious! I would think full flush Euro lights would look fabulous but that's me!
Odd that it's a 1987 but has 1985 or earlier version headlights (vs. the 'flush' 1987's). The airbag/steering wheel does not seem original (guessing that's part of the wreck). Cool looking beast though!
What an amazing specimen! Wish I had the extra funds and garage space for this beauty!
This is awesome... my wife would kill me though. If only! Good luck!
The data card at the end of the photos says that this is a 2002? Regardless, this is in beautiful shape!
I used to love the Cincy Concours... when I lived there (88-92) it was held at Cincinnati Country Day school and benefited the Arthritis Foundation. I enjoyed volunteering every year and it was an amazing show! Good luck with this one; I love these models--yours looks exceptional!
@Belushawnwill do. To be honest, I usually skip videos. Thanks!
Another article... https://www.capitalone.com/cars/learn/finding-the-right-car/how-to-import-a-car-to-the-united-states/2449
I haven't read any of this but this site seems to be the place to start... https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehicles-and-engines I love this! I wish I could have come to the F1 race last weekend and driven this to a Port to bring home! I do agree that an outdoor/sunlight photo would be a great addition?
This is a beautiful car--only wish there were 'less dark' exterior photos. You can see the beauty of the color in the close-up photos but overall it looks darker than it truly is (my 2 cents from the peanut gallery). I wish!
.....must have been the dealer badge
@Jim_RosenthalI do understand the history/provenance but I guess I am weird : ) When someone hit my old 91 W124 diesel from behind, I removed all the badging (other than the star); the ML320 on my '99 was easier to remove as they were 'applied' vs. 'mounted' like the old badging. Regardless, if I had the cheddar, I'd be honest that the badge probably wouldn't truly preclude me from bidding on this gem! The bidding is closing in on 'value' at this point, though!
I can't get over the fact that this BEAUTIFUL car is nearly perfect after restoration.... until you gaze at the trunk lid. The "Madison Smith" might as well be a 5 inch scratch on the side of the door that can't be missed. A horrid oversight IMHO. From the peanut gallery but my unsolicited 2 cents... Good luck!
Unless I missed it, what MB models will these fit? Just curious really... THX (I had old Lorinser RS90's on my 91 300d W124; they made the car!)
Sorry, one more... can you expand on the 'oil leak'? Location? Major/minor? All diesels eat a bit of oil but curious what someone would be getting into here. THANKS
Odd-it says damage to 1) the front and 2) the right/rear but yet the driver's door seems to be a slightly different shade, or is that just me?
