Having said that I would also add that I would need a better answer on the title. Cars don't get issued rebuilt titles for a "minor accident with a few dents."
OMG, I can't believe all the nonsense on this auction. The current bid is less that 3% of original MSRP. I've owned LOTS of V12 Mercedes including an 07 S600 Designo Espresso Edition as my current daily driver. @Awsbaraa you have stated "every single button works" and that a dealer told you "everything is perfect". Simply add a commitment here that you will either fix at your expense or cancel the sale any issues the buyer finds at delivery, excluding cosmetic and normal wear issues of course. Any non-working factory function or mechanical aspect. Everyone else, if he will do that then bid or shut up! These cars were about $160k new. They can be bought dirt cheap but when they break they are $160k cars. If you can't afford a $10k repair then you shouldn't be buying an S600. Even the4 best maintained example in the world can break tomorrow. Everything on every car works until it doesn't. Just my 2 cents but as I said I've owned over a dozen V12 MBs.
@Bologna1 It appears SLS was removed and r4ear converted to struts? Can you confirm and state what springs and struts were installed?
Congrats to @Bernie. Well bought IMO.
Can't buy a clapped out Hyundai for this money!
Gotta go pick up my 07 S600 from service now. I was considering going from it back to this as a daily driver; these are that good IMO. GLWA
From the era when Mercedes were as reliable as Toyotas are now.
@qsled Very familiar with it as I lived in Weymouth for many years and my wife commuted to grad school at Harvard.
I assume if one flys into Logan some combo of the T and Uber can get one to it? Lunch at Legal Seafood and road trip.
This one is very tempting. Great history.
Loved the one I owned. And it had n o problem getting to 140mph on a trip out West and staying there for a loooong time. One of the best they built. GLWA
Would have thought that would be enough given a US buyer still has to spend several thousand to get it here.
Hopefully high bidder and seller can work it out? I think being in Kuwait held this one back as it could easily be an $80k car if in US.
Nice $$for a nice car! GLWA
Just to clarify, is this car in Montana of Savannah, GA?
@Rocktop please contact me at jefeklein1 @ gmail . com
Looks like indeed the CL65 used the 60 rear offset but NOT the S65 on the sites where I've looked it up. Just saying a buyer needs to know what these will fit and what they will not fit.
@Sergey and @Alex_maceseanu not sure what car the 60 offset would fit? Certainly NOT stock for an SL65 or S65, W220 or W221. Black Series?
I assume MB Market will put us in touch.
Carfax says registered and titled in IL several times after FL?
If the car came back to IL from FL in 2000 why is it still on a FL title?
NP, had to ask. :)
Any chance you'll include the Palamino interior as well if the car sells?
Got it.
@Youngclassicamg Im confused. You got the car in your You Tube videos with Palamino seats. You put in the red ones and you don't know where they came from?
@Youngclassicamg are the red seats from a donor car; the palamino seats reupholstered; or the palamino seats dyed?
Thx for the quick response. When you first got the car the rear end was sitting very low. Looks okay now. What changed? And just to verify, all the red interior on seats is leather?
@youngclassicamg have you made any attempt at a preliminary diagnosis of the A/C problem? Also, a previous poster asked if the self leveling rear end is in working order?
Mom! It was 55!
@Youngclassicamg when you first rescued the car the dash was pretty shot. Is this a replacement dash or a cap?
Ad states: "While this C126 still has some unfinished business to attend to," @Youngclassicamg can you list / elaborate on what the known "unfinished business" list is? Does the known list go past sunroof, A/C and passenger side belt?
@UI_Classics The write up says the interior is black but every single picture sure makes it look blue. Which is correct?
@KatalyticMC sorry you didn't get a sale but no way I'd have sold it this cheap and there are certainly worse things in life than having to keep driving an SL65!
Did everyone sleep in today?
@KatalyticMC gotta ask, after putting 65k miles on an SL65 from new what do you replace it with? BTW, driving the white one today!
Current bid is where these were selling for two years ago. It will probably take quite a bit more in today's market. GLWA to all. @JRdelaG no reason to think @M_de_Montespan 's bid would hold up.
Fantastic buy. It will go nowhere but up in value. Congrats to @Rado
If it sells less than $60k someone will need to call the cops.
@Vlad600sel miracles happen, after all this got built!
Might get there yet but doing it at 300 TD speed instead of E60 speed! :) GLWA to all. Great iconic Benz.
Someone needs to put down the hammer on this Hammer.
Short of paying Renntech big bucks and waiting where are you going to find another for sale?
Getting some love but got to believe we are still well off reserve?
Gotta agree with @Vlad600sel unless bidding skyrockets at the end I don't see this selling.
@JRdelaG not sure what you are referring to as the R230 SL65 didn't offer a "performance package" other than the standard 604 hp and 738 ft-lbs of torque. There is no "P30" option on these.
@19ken96 Planning on getting over to them for both my 07 S600 and 08 SL65 soon. I'm in Aiken, SC. Where is home for you?
@19ken96 Congrats. You bought a super nice supercar!
Quick ECU tune will add 100 hp and 140 ft lbs torque, not that it needs it!
Don't know if this will meet reserve but at current bid it would be a fantastic buy of a great car!
@Clutch which is what happens when people who don't know these cars grab generic write ups and post them. The car has neither. Plenty of ways to know this. I happen to have cataloged every R230 SL65 ever built. 1) The data card for this car says none of the big three options exist. 2) there are no sensors on the front or rear bumpers for Parktronic, 3) there is no selector switch by the gear shift for Parktronic, 4) there is no thumbwheel by the gear shift for distronic, 5) the grill (picture 40) is not a distronic grill.
While being the highest production year and the most common color combo in 2005 this one is somewhat rare in what it doesn't have. It doesn't have Parktronic, Distronic or a Pano roof, none of the three "big" options which many find desirable. 1 of 161 MY 2055 SL65 "strippers" worldwide. GLWA
Just an FYI, I have cataloged all the R230 SL65s, including the BS. They made 400 Blacks, not 350. 175 to US and the other 225 to ROW. Doesn't change a whit how much they are worth or how desirable but facts are stubborn. GLWA
@Modeh all cards for Designo cars list 501A up top as the interior code. You have to look down near the bottom to see the option code for the Designo color they actually are. Is this the same car that was RNM recently on BaT?
Congrats to @cadams. Well fought.
@caeydot are we selling? Okay to say if reserve is met.
This SHOULD get it sold today!
Three way race, two bidders and Reserve.
At about 1/8 th original price with fees.
This car was RNM at $19k on BaT recently and rumor was the reserve was WAY higher so we'll see?
Two things we know will survive a nuclear holocaust: cockroaches and MB tex.
Congrats to @armandn That will seem quite a bargain in the coming years.
$19k ($20k with fee) wouldn't be unreasonable for this fine example. What else can you buy in the used car market with this bang for the buck?
Comin up on run with the bid dogs or stay on the porch time!
@Vhmills not sure mileage has anything to do with it. I had a 2010 that MB replaced all the bolts on (and one head) under warranty at 17k miles. In general there were actually very few failures as a percentage of cars (not unlike the Porsche IMS issue) but also like the Porsche, potentially catastrophic if it happens to you. Failures sometimes occurred when the cars were almost new to cars with 80k plus miles. Not a huge deal as you can change them out without pulling the heads and replace the phaser bolts and tappet buckets with the improved parts while there. In the end you get a bullet proof M156. @ILLANOIZ not sure that is correct, I think MB didn't start using the improved bolt until the middle of the 2011 model year. (Go Illini!) In any case, a well sorted M156 is a great driving experience. The issues are known and not hard to fix. Weistec can provide all the pieces you need. GLWA
Easily one of the best sounds of any engine produced in the last couple of decades! @Vhmills do you know if the head bolts were ever changed out to the improved 2011 design?
@djc1117 Thank you again for the quick response. It was actually the Carfax that made me question the VMI. Clearly there are lots of MB dealership services on the Carfax not shown on the VMI they gave you; not your fault. Dealerships are very weird about VMIs. Some won't share them at all, some only with the current owner, and some, as I suspect they did here, will give you one but only for a period they think you owned it. In any case no harm, the Carfax fiills in the missing data. GLWA
@djc1117 Thank you for the quick reply. I am interested in the car and not trying to be argumentative but if the VMI is "complete" then this car only saw a MB dealer in the first 3 or 4 years of its life for recalls or TSBs (Section of VMI they label "Damage History") and then had two services in 2010 and 2011 (Section MB labels "Customer Pay") and otherwise has never been touched by a MB dealer. Did you get this VMI from a dealer yourself or was it part of paperwork with the car? It clearly has gaps.
@djc1117 Nice S55. Can you confirm all front seat bladders are working and all massage and dynamic seat functions? Also, the posted VMI only shows one page of service in the mid 40k mile range. Due you have and can you post the full VMI?
Well bought!
All the big stuff done, low miles, 08 so quilted interior! Maybe we can get a sale this time with the lower reserve?
Still well under market but lots of time left.
Congrats to @Bwein and to @SixMyles for making the wife happy!
Still a good deal on a rocket you can drive like mad and not worry about breaking! @SixMyles the wife will be happy she is getting her spot back.
@Scottwl38 for me it was to keep miles off the SL65!
@Apabonds but keep in mind that's the warranty price WHEN you are also buying the car from CarMax. You probably can't match that just shopping for a warranty.
@eosgood wants that warranty @apabonds!
@Apabonds currently about $43,000 on this particular car plus small transfer fee. :)
You basically get the new car experience for currently about 70k off sticker. And just like when new, if you break it you just tell CarMax / Mercedes "fix it"!
Paraphrasing crocodile Dundee That's not a V8, this is a @V8Mate !
And with the warranty you can feel free to drive it like the engineers at AMG intended!
Not saying it isn't still a steal but past my number so GLWA to all. Maybe time for an M157 in my stable? These are very good cars. Loved the 2010 I had.
Should have just waited for the horses mouth! :)
@Vlad600sel I think he stated earlier he likes to mod and mods on this one would void the warranty.
Calm down guys, still about 48 minutes until the real auction begins. :)
@AMGdriver actually there is little that goes wrong between 33k and 56k miles on these. And the VMI on this one had a lot of the bigger ticket items addressed before the 33k miles gap. BUT, they will need about a $10k infusion between 60 and 80k miles typically. ABC, coil packs, radiators, deferred maintenace, brakes, etc.
@AMGdriver then you haven't been car shopping in the last 12 months. Plus MB is making exactly zero more V12s. Unless you buy a Maybach or Pagani.
Not surprising. At least $40k plus in current market. I bought my SL65 for $36,500 three years ago and it's all of $50k today.
@thphon I think Fidelity will still write one. And surprisingly sometimes your local credit union. Check with them!
Bid to or a great buy?
Interesting how the "ENDS IN" box changes size based on the numerals being displayed. You'd think it would be a fixed size. But admit it, now that I pointed it out you can't stop watching it. If only I'd thought of that distractor before we got to this bid level!
Congrats to @singh3178!
@Tank24 yes, given an infinite amount of $ and time anything is possible!
@singh3178 begging is a sign of weakness man; don't let him see you sweat!
Someone throw a knockout please; I've got an S65 auction to watch!
Sorry, Mack and Singh are trying to participate in an auction!
@Jazzman already been done with the 55 supercharged AMG engine in several older SLs and such but the V12 is just so darned wide.
Now if I can only shoehorn in the V12 M275 from the S65?
Not only do they not make them like this anymore (any manufacturer); neither does Mercedes.
Current bid half a late model used Honda and this will still outlive the Honda; with style.
If you want to know how well these are built just pop out a door handle and compare it to any modern equivalent. Real, solid, engineered quality metal mechanism versus crap. Extrapolate that to the whole car.
I have been without a warranty on my SL65 for three years and am ahead so far $ wise. 64k miles on the odometer. Do anything you can yourself, find a good indy mechanic and the aftermarket suppliers, and stay away from stealerships.
@Apabonds a LOT, IF you can find someone to write one. There are a few but for a 3 year 36k mile you are talking 6 to 8 grand. Most warranty companies won't touch the V12s. Not because they are unreliable, just because they are not cheap to fix.
Exactly what the guy who drove the 560SEC traded for when he got married back in the day.
When a F250 Ford or RAM truck just hasn't got enough torque to satisfy you, get one of these! And then hang on! About as close as you can get to a private Jet without leaving the ground.
An 07 with 20k miles recently sold on BaT for $53k. Be interesting to see where this lands in comparison. One year newer ( plus for the diamond stitch!) but higher miles.
As the video demonstrates, the added front track width (2010 and 2011) really make this car a great handler as well. And the 7 speed gear box with the auto throttle blips on downshifts is a thing to behold. Nice. I do miss my 2010. See you tomorrow!
Hopefully this auction still has what the car being offered also needs; plenty of room to run! GLWA
@SixMyles Thank you for the quick response and explanation. I can relate to getting more than you need while you decided which to keep as I've done the same and would be frankly doing so again if I bid on this; but we'll see. Can you share the details of the cost and process for the warranty transfer? I had a 2010 E63 and the warranty is frankly the only reason I'm looking hard at this one. Well that and the miles and the color!
@SixMyles why the quick flip?
@Leomousa the VMI has a 20k+ gap between 35k and 56k miles. Any records for service or maintenance in that period?
Appreciate Pierre's video but especially the "why would you want to own this vehicle" section. He just nailed it. I owned a 2005 and it's one of those cars I've always regretted selling. GLWA to all but I want this!
I just keep coming back just to stare at the wood!
@GASMotorcars Thanks for the quick response. Not quite parktronic but I guess it was better than hiring two flagmen when berthing this land yacht.
Okay, I'm intrigued. Can anyone explain to me the operation of the "automatic parking poles"? I assume those are the two little posts shown sticking up out of the trunk in a few pics? Also can the seller speak to the issue with the rear view mirror? I assume that foam crammed in there is not factory.
@Statis50 I suspect this is headed well above my desired number as well but it is certainly one of the nicest speced S65s I've ever seen.

@Apabonds but keep in mind that's the warranty price WHEN you are also buying the car from CarMax. You probably can't match that just shopping for a warranty.

@SixMyles Thank you for the quick response and explanation. I can relate to getting more than you need while you decided which to keep as I've done the same and would be frankly doing so again if I bid on this; but we'll see.
