This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL was first delivered to Winnetka, IL when new and is finished in Black (040) with Grey cladding over Palomino (264) leather interior. The car remained with its original owner until 2016 when it was aquired by the selling dealer as part of their collection. Power is provided from an M117 5.5-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a sliding steel sunroof, wood trim, automatic climate control, power-adjustable and heated front seats with position memory, power-adjustable and heated rear bench, a rear sunshade, and rear passenger footrests. An oil change and inspection were performed in preparation for the sale. This W126 now shows just 9,630 miles and is offered by the selling dealer in California with manufacturer’s books & literature, a factory tool roll, three keys, period instruction tags, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title.
The bodywork is finished in Black (040) with contrasting grey bumpers and lower cladding. The car is equipped with a sliding steel sunroof as well as headlight wipers and a power Hirschmann antenna. The vehicle shows no indication of prior bodywork or paintwork and is believed to be entirely original. Additional photos in the gallery below show the condition of the paint and body up close.
Factory 15″ Gullideckel alloy wheels wear Michelin MXV measuring 205/65 all around. Four-wheel independent suspension and anti-lock disc brakes were standard equipment on the flagship S-class for 1990.
The seating surfaces are upholstered in Palomino leather (264) with wood veneers accenting the matching lower dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include central locking, automatic climate control, an original Becker Grand Prix cassette stereo, cruise control, an electric rear sunshade, dual front airbags, and carpeted floor mats with rear passenger footrests. In addition to front power-adjustable and heated seats with position memory, the rear bench seats were also power-adjustable and heated.
An airbag steering wheel frames a 170-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer with an integrated analog clock along. Additional gauges display fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and instant economy. The six-digit mechanical odometer indicates 9,630 miles.
The 5.5-liter SOHC M117 V8 was factory rated at 238 horsepower and 287 lb-ft of torque when new. An oil change and a safety inspection were performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. After a recent inspection, the brakes and all suspension compenents are reportedly in excellent condition.
The Carfax report shows linear mileage updates and no accidents or other damage. Now with only 9,630 miles, this 1990 560SEL is offered with manufacturer’s books & literature, a factory tool roll, three keys, period instruction tags, a clean Carfax report, a Legends of the Autobahn award, and a clean Illinois title.
Additional photos of the underbody have been added to the gallery as well as a walk around and interior video viewable below.
Nothing, again, nothing exemplifies the Sacco-era greatness in our opinion as much as a late-model W126 flagship fresh off the showroom floor. From an era when Mercedes was Mercedes. When there wasn’t a $300/month lease option for a lesser version of your dream car. That is what exemplifies what Mercedes stood for in 1990 and that is what this particular example rains from the rafters. Never have you seen dials so orange and bright. Never have you seen original burlwood or MB leather hides as crisp and defect-free as an example such as this. Allow yourself to be transported to a simpler time when greed was good and a Mercedes-Benz was not one of thirty-five available crossover models. It was an identity – and no such identity resonated more than a black 560SEL flagship sedan retailing at the equivalent of approximately $200,000 USD in today’s money. This was the car and, if you had it new in 1990 like this one, you were the man.

Museum quality...I'd likely toss a new chain tensioner in Just for good measure/peace of mind any time I turned the key. For Long term storage Redline makes an ester based 20/50 with an additive package that will prevent the cams and rockers from eating themselves...added benefit of being Stable for many, many years. GLWTA, Spectacular 👍👍👍

Perfect spec right here. It's essentially like having the ability to buy a showroom new 560SEL in modern day, unreal how clean this car is.
