This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL was ordered from the Mannheim Branch and sold new in Germany. It was imported to the United States in 2020 by the selling dealer and currently shows 135,534 kilometers (84,216 miles). Finished in Midnight Blue (904) over Royal Blue (272), this 300SL features a leather-trimmed sport wheel, manual transmission, removable hardtop, and a fully automatic power soft top. Power comes from an M103 straight six and is transferred to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. This triple blue R129 is currently offered with factory literature, four keys, and a clean Florida title.
The factory 8-hole wheels are free from any rash or blemishes and measure 16x8 on all four corners. The wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires up front and Laufenn S Fit EQ tires in the rear measuring 225/55 all around and reportedly have more than 80% tread life remaining.
The 3.0-liter M103 straight-six was rated at 188 horsepower when new and 192 ft-lbs of torque when new. It’s mated to a 717 manual 5-speed transmission and features an automatic limited slip differential (ASD). Recent service includes new brake pads, rotors, and a fresh battery. A slight noise from the differential is noted by the seller as being audible with the top up under acceleration. The differential has not been flushed.
This Midnight Blue R129 is offered with factory literature, an original tool kit, four keys, a matching hardtop, and full spare tire. Some records are included from the previous owner. A complete walk around video has been included by the seller and can be found below.

This thing is so incredibly cool and understated. In a world full of pedestrian R129s this color combo with the manual is such a wonderfully unique piece that will surely appreciate well. I would absolutely be gunning for this one if I had the room for it. GLWA!

@Hoosiertown collectibility of originality aside, you're spot on. This is a very cool machine....might even paint the OZ centers in Midnight ;)

@jthorseshoe, the steering wheel in this car is from Mercedes-Benz. It's a late R107 steering wheel, from the R129's predecessor. In the early R129s, airbags were optional in some markets. The four-spoke steering wheel is a holdover from the R107 used on non-airbag cars. You rarely see that on R129s in the USA because driver's side airbags were standard on the early R129s in N. America. The passenger side airbag was optional in the USA early on, which is why some cars have an actual glovebox in front of the passenger seat, like this one. Just a couple of quirks that make this car different, but I'd rather have airbags.
I know there's something to be said for originality but imagine this Midnight Blue manual with a gen1 AMG kit and OZ's...

@Mparick Agreed! Anyone have an idea on who makes this steering wheel?
The euro headlights with no wipers really gives the R129 a super clean look. Love this example!
Love seeing some good action and comments here. The SL with a manual was rare enough but this color combination and options set really pushes this thing towards uber-cool. Kudos to the seller!

Correction: new brake pads and rotors were only installed in the front. We purchased parts for front and rear but the rear brakes turned out to be in good enough shape and didn't have to be addressed.
Maybe it IS cable TV. After all, these ARE luxury cars.
LOL I thought it was cable TV
@dean_Laumbach I will try to get it on a lift again for some more photos
@Jim_Rosenthal the box in the trunk with wires connected to it is some kind of an antenna. The label says KATHREIN Typ nr. 726-185. Not sure what it is for and I didn't find much after I googled it either.
What is the box with the multiple wires connected to it?

@UI_Classics You look to have have a magnificent vehicle offered here. The radio code can easily be found by pulling the head-unit with these inexpensive tools. https://www.ebay.com/itm/253284210837?hash=item3af8ea5895:g:lyAAAOSwEOpaHktn Get the serial number off the head unit and call Mercedes-Benz or Eddie at Becker Autosound of Saddle Brook NJ for the code. Undercarriage photos would be a big plus, and judging from the condition of the white original exhaust manifold, I would expect it to be equally pristine underneath. Very nice find !!! Good Luck !!!
Ugh this site is going to make me take out another mortgage. So many cars I NEED, this one included!
