In the case of this car that is on its way to its new home, the harnesses have been replaced sometime and PPI by the buyer reflected correct functionality. @MBFahrer I just ordered a set (upper and lower) from a supplier in Europe for an R129, not OEM but very high standards and it is our duty to keep these cars alive for years to come. I will be happy to share the supplier if you are interested. @gsxr I agree with you. If the harnesses have been replaced, say midlife in the car, and the car has not been subject to a large amount if miles, or extreme heat after that, they should be still good; its just a matter of checking continuity and proper functionality. As you state, I haven't seen failure on a replaced set so far, unless the car has been owned by a medieval viking. Blueridge is a great option for repair/rebuild, they are true experts. I have a supplier in Europe that manufactures these with OEM quality standards, which is usually a better option to repairing.
For the harnesses, we are specifically discussing the upper engine harness (to injectors and sensors), and lower engine harness (to starter/alternator), not the body harnesses (blower motor, etc). I have never seen evidence of either of the engine harnesses failing, after the original soy-based was replaced with the improved insulation. Note this ONLY applies to models through 1995 USA model year, with LH-SFI or HFM injection systems. NOT the later models with ME 1.0 fuel injection. 1996-up will be ME 1.0 injection and those are a completely different discussion. The ME harnesses should not fail unless subjected to excessive heat loads, which is possible, but not common. The LH+HFM harnesses fail rapidly with normal heat loads and most have already been replaced except perhaps on very low-mile cars. But anyway - it was implied earlier that these harnesses are still available new from the dealer, and that is largely incorrect. Most of the harnesses are NLA and if replacement is needed, the old/failing harness will have to be sent to a shop like BlueRidgeMB for repair/rebuilding.
@germancars Comparing apples to oranges saying that the M119 harnesses are easy to source. I called MB Classic in Irvine as well as my local MB dealer trying to source a couple harnesses for two M120 W140's within the past couple of months. Both cars, uppper and lower harnesses are NLA.
@gsxr Actually, the updated insulation can eventually fail as well. I have a 1996 S600 that I've removed the harness from because the grounds and blower motor wiring insulation has failed. And I have a 1997 S600 that I've had to pull the harnesses from as well because the insulation is becoming brittle. I specifically looked for 1996+ W140's because of the pre-1996 soybean coated harnesses that do fail. The '96+ were not supposed to suffer from this issue. However, due to age and the sustained high engine bay temps from these M120 motors, even the updated wiring can fail. So, buyers beware. I found a couple of places that will rebuild wiring harnesses, so I am now looking at all years of M120 powered W140s.

Wiring harness availability depends on the specific year, chassis, and engine combination. The engine wiring harness for this specific VIN is Mercedes part number 140-540-47-05 and it is formally NLA / Discontinued, per MB Classic link below. https://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A1405404705?tt=automatic The lower harness (to starter / alternator / sensors) is also NLA: https://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A1405403330?tt=automatic If the harnesses have already been replaced in the past, this is a non-issue, as the replacements have improved insulation that does not degrade.

@MBFahrer Harness seems to have been replaced sometime in the past. Car functions without electric or electronic issues at the time of this auction . Your statement of the harnesses being NLA is inaccurate as we have recently replaced M120 harnesses from several MB cars in the collection recently and have a harness set (top and bottom) for a rare M119 6.0 AMG on order and due to ship very soon. I suggest you check your supply chain (if any) again for ordering and availability. You are welcome to PPI this car before the auction ends at a local MB dealer or MB specialist repair facility at your cost.
Seller: Have the wiring harnesses been replaced? The parts are NLA and the car will become undriveable if they have not been replaced.
