Interesting comments today about this car. Samir and I talked on the phone Saturday night we setup a FaceTime to help him understand the top and the carburetors. I’m not claiming to be an expert but I have owned 6 of these cars. First the top, the cable system and bolts are there. Samir was honest and showed the flaws to the top you need to budget for a soft top unless you can live with a few holes for me I’d buy a new convertible top. Second the hard top, looks like Samir had the headliner restored. For me hardtop means taking up space in the garage. Now the carburetors they are not the original solexs. If you know these stop with thinking Webers were an option they weren’t a lot of people put that conversion on these cars. All 6 of mine had the original carburetors, I was always lucky enough to find someone who could work on them. The car currently and he states it has a single carburetor, I’ve never seen this conversion before but again I’d source real Solexs that are out there on the SL forum. He has two sets of tires, 13” and 14”. The eye lids seem ok , the car looks straight and anything I asked him to show me he was more then happy to help me. I showed him where to look on the frame rail for numbers seems like they match as does the block. It’s not a 100 point car, he’s not saying it is. Look at the pictures call him if your interested and the guy was a true gentleman. I don’t know him previously to my phone call , FaceTime and multiple texts. As I stated to him 190’s aren’t for everyone. I want everyone to know I have never met him have no business or other ties as I wrote I’m looking for a daily driver. Another thing no clock in the car. You’ll pay a ransom for one but there are people out there that rebuild them. Samir said there was an issue with the generator, he was going to have it changed today. If your that curious I tell people have a PPI done or fly to see it if you know them. The interior looked ok from the FaceTime. Might need carpets but again not sure what someone is looking to do to her. He also started it for me. Am I a player only time will tell. I buy and sell on other sites I don’t flip I check cars off I’ve always wanted. Good luck everyone. Coachmule
@SamirI had a very long EC meeting today I can reach out and help you with the top I’ve owned 5 and this will be my last one if I’m Lucky enough.
Why are there no pictures with the soft top completely up? Roadster in these cars meant they didn’t come with a soft top. I bought a 56 that the hard too was on and the soft top although new hadn’t been up in 30 years. It wouldn’t stretch out. Drive video? Top on video showing the top although manual how it connects if it does connect? Cold start video ? I’d like to schedule a PPI any objections? Why did you remove the original carburetors? I’m a serious buyer and looking for a daily driver to cars and coffee and work on Fridays. Past buyer and owned 5 of these looking for my last one to sit in the garage next to my 60 Impala convertible 100% NOS thank you in advance
Best of luck I was going to park it at my house in Vegas and I’m two years completely go through it. Hope it works out seller is a good guy. Knows his cars.
You guys are hoping your internet is good.
Awful close Elgeneral
Is there a contact seller button ? Really don’t want my number out all over the site ?
This car looks like it was completely emerged in water. You can see the water in the door panels , the gauges were full of water hence why the motor won’t turn over. If you tackle this project you’re going to need real money. Nothing on these is cheap. Without seeing it in person I’d say for me it’s close to the reserve price. I’ll try to come and see it but the more I look the more I think it was flooded and I’m. Sure someone claimed it on insurance.
I’m sure everyone is aware this is not optioned with a convertible top. I had this exact year and model. These were made as a roadster so no top was available.
@StoneBelvinthank you for the fast response. I hate that it’s so far away. I’m in San Diego
Are you a dealer? I don’t like to pay tax on a car that’s this old. I’m in San Diego do you have a reliable shipper ? Have you had the push to start looked at? Coil packs are extremely expensive to replace no know changes ? Great looking car any rust underneath?
Weird I thought AMG’s came with the triptronic roof glass ? Guess I learned something new today. Any rust on this vehicle ? Midwest cars equal rust sometimes
Car was in AZ then sold at Manheim auctions ?
How bad was the damage in the accident ? Any major parts replaced? I love these but I have a hard fast real rule about cars in accidents can you or do you know the extent ?
I just sold a 2003 same color combination is the roof pano? I had 42 k miles. Does the top have cylinders ?
Where can I see the car in San Diego?
Will this pass California smog ? I live in San Diego, any issues if I take the train up north and drive it home ? Plates up to date ?
I have homes in both states, if you send the title to Nevada they will collect the tax on the sale as well. Best of luck with the sale great car but if it sells for what I think I don’t want to pay that much in taxes. Nevada if bought private is no tax.
I thought it screamed San Diego
Is this titled in your dealership name or is it open ? If it’s in the dealership name I’ll have to factor in the 10% tax here in California too bad that might kill the deal.
Wish it had the glass option top. Nice car but with the market crashing again today it’s a good time to look for deals. I’ll follow it and see if I can pick it up I’m in San Diego and sold my 2003 and miss it bad.
I just imported a car from Mexico into California it’s been a complete nightmare, first dmv inspection then CHP inspection now the DMV sent all the paperwork to Sacramento for approval I’ve been trying to register this car for 13 weeks, does anyone know a better process? I’m beyond frustrated before I bid on this car.
Wow can’t believe I missed out on this car. Tremendous buy.
Were the engine and transmission mounts done during all of this service ? Thanks beautiful car GLWTA
