This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 was acquired by the current owner in 2020 and shows 25k miles (TMU) with thorough recent maintenance and a stamped service booklet through 1983. Finished in Deep Blue (920) over a Blue Leather interior, power comes from a 4.5-liter M117 V8 paired to a three-speed automatic transmission with floor shift. Features for this example include original air conditioning, power windows, an original Becker Europa AM/FM receiver, and custom-ordered navy and white Cocomats for all four footwells. Services under the current owner's tenure include all new injector hoses and fuel lines under the hood, a new fuel tank, new brake pads and rotors, new brake lines, rebuilt calipers, a new brake booster, new master cylinder, re-packed wheel bearings, new shocks, a new steering knuckle, new drag link, new transmission cooler lines, new subframe bushings, shifter linkage bushings, throttle linkage, and valve cover gaskets replaced. This 1973 280SE 4.5 is offered by the selling dealer with original literature, data card and plate, two keys, thorough maintenance records, and a clean Oklahoma title.
The car is finished in Deep Blue (920) and features original brightwork including front and rear bumpers, grille, and window trim. The car reportedly features original paint and a new rear window seal was installed under the current owner’s care. Minor rust spots in the lower wheel wells are noted by the seller and shown in the gallery below in addition to thinning paint on the hood and light scratches on the roof and trunk.
Steel 14″ wheels with Deep Blue hubcaps are mounted with 195/70 Douglas all-season tires showing 2018 date codes. Recent brake work includes new brake pads and rotors, new brake lines, rebuilt calipers, a new brake booster, and new master cylinder.
The cabin is trimmed in Blue Leather across the seats, door cards, head rests, center console, and dashboard. The seats were reportedly recovered under previous ownership and custom Cocomats in navy and white have been installed for all four footwells. Cabin features include chrome-trimmed gauges and controls, original air conditioning (noted as inoperative), a Becker Europa AM/FM receiver (noted as inoperable), power windows, and front head restraints. The cabin shows some age and patina with detailed photos in the gallery.
The two-spoke steering wheel shows a few cracks and fronts a dashboard with wood trim. VDO instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an operational clock. The five-digit odometer shows 25k miles and the owner reports a roll-over under previous ownership. Photos of the instrumentation refurbishment can be seen in the gallery.
The 4.5-liter M117 V8 was factory-rated for 230 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. It’s impossible for any enthusiast to hate a W108. An instant classic upon design and launch, the W108 set the tone for modern Mercedes and the next 40 years of innovation. As we’ve seen with previous examples, W108's touting the 4.5 V8 are more than capable of keeping pace with modern traffic while looking extraordinary in the process. With so much recent maintenance performed, this car is bound to be a fantastic driver but in need of just enough for the next owner to make it their own. Confidently, we’re sure this car will go to an appreciative home.

Not sure why this didn’t sell. Definitely worth more though.
So close! I'll reach out to the high bidder and see if we can make a deal. Thanks all!
Nothing better than a good 4.5 in these.

Just under 3 hours left on this Mercedes! As a reminder, there are a few extra parts that come with the car: an original spare wheel, an original tool roll (as pictured), a new OEM Mercedes driver window regulator, door gasket kit, trunk gasket, new Bosch spark plugs, distributor cap, and a kit to convert to electronic ignition with a new coil. Happy bidding!
@Gesso Hi there is a leak in the power steering system (I think it’s one of the hoses) and there are various other weeps and seeps as expected in a 50 year old vehicle, but nothing major. The driver window doesn’t like to stay all the way up, but I have included a brand new Mercedes driver window regulator with this auction (as seen in the photos). The other windows work smoothly up and down. Thanks!

Any known leaks/visible drips from the car? Are the window motors/regulators operating smoothly? Thanks.
