This 1978 Mercedes-Benz 280CE is finished in Colorado Beige (470) over Palomino MB-Tex (730) and was acquired by the current owner and seller in mid-2021 with three owners reported since new. Now showing 57k miles, the car is powered by a 2.8-liter M110 inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include power windows, power steering, an original Becker head unit with AM/FM/Cassette functions, and factory air conditioning. Notable service includes ignition, top end, cooling, gaskets, seals, and various electronics with records included in the gallery. This C123 is now offered by the current owner and seller with recent service records, factory literature, a factory tool kit, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The exterior is finished in Colorado Beige (470) with a dual brown pinstripe along the upper beltline of the body. The seller notes the car received new paint on the hood and a new windshield previously with remaining body and glass showing as original. All bright work and plastic trim around the car remains in good condition. A black rear view mirror has been added to the passenger side door.
Factory 14” Bundt wheels wear Michelin Defender tires measuring 195/70 showing 2017 date codes and good tread life. Originally this coupe would have been equipped with steel wheels showing paint-matched hubcaps. The original hubcaps are included in the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in Palomino MB-Tex (730) with matching loop carpets and black plastics, while burl wood trim accents the dash and console. The wood trim shows various cracks along the center console near the shifter surround. Equipment includes power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control with air conditioning. An original Becker head unit is retained in the dash. The seller notes the driver door can be difficult to shut on occasion.
The original black steering wheel frames instrumentation showing a 150-mph VDO speedometer, an analog clock, and a combination guage. The 6-digit odometer shows 57k miles, around 100 of which have been added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter M110 inline-six features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Service completed under current ownership includes an oil and filter change with previous service including ignition, top end, cooling, gaskets, seals, and various electronics with records included in the gallery.
This C123 is now offered by the current owner and seller with recent service records, factory literature, a factory tool kit, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

@Loucurcio yes it is. Thanks John
Hi, Is this the same 280CE that I may have seen at a consignment shop on 41? By the time I got around to make an appointment to take a close look, the owner reportedly took the car back for family use?

thank you, I just wanted to get the rest of the story, altho I think you mentioned it sometime earlier.
@Benzman I purchased the car in February of 2021 from my good and longtime friend John Dedrick. John Lives in Wisconsin. I bought the car while visiting John in his Florida home sight unseen expecting to use it at my Michigan summer home and planed to take it across lake Michigan on the Badger Ferry. Unfortunately the hood popped up and broke the windshield before I took possession. The repair took several months and summer passed so I decided to bring the car here to Florida. I find now that I don't have room for it and so I would like to sell it
John, when did you buy the car and how did you find that it was for sale? just curious as it is a long way from WI.

Beautiful coupe and I cannot believe how the passenger side door mirror was added/mounted. For starts not the correct mirror.
Stunning W123! We've seen this car around town and its gorgeous. Good luck with the sale!!

@Benzman I will have additional photos of undercarriage posted and the AC checked. The slow windows were repaired not sure what "Fixes" you are looking for but I'm happy to discuss it. Thanks for your interest.
To Seller: Many more photos of undercarriage taken when car is on lift, not by sliding phone under car when car is on the ground, would be extremely helpful. ideas re fix for weak AC and slow window operation? Beautiful car, reminds me of the 250C I had rehabbed for my wife many years ago. I'm a buyer with clarification of rust, AC and slow windows problems and possible fixes. thank you for presenting this gorgeous almost 45 year old car.
Absolutely stunning condition, nicest 280CE I’ve seen in years. I’ve been told by a number of knowledgeable (older) Mercedes enthusiasts that even when their cars were new on the dealer lot, the AC was subpar at best. This is probably running as good as it ever will. Best of luck with the sale!
