This 1980 Mercedes-Benz 450SL was purchased by the current owner in 2017 and shows registration in California since. Finished in Astral Silver Metallic (735) over a Black Leather (231) interior, power is provided by a 4.5L V8 engine paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include a matching removable hardtop, folding black soft top, automatic antenna, fog lights, aftermarket JVC KD-R520 stereo, air conditioning, Tempomat Cruise Control, electric front windows, power locks, heated rear windowpane, and OEM 14” bundt wheels. The seller has kept service records under their ownership and will be including the documents in the sale. This 450SL shows 63k miles on the odometer and is now offered by the seller with factory literature, a hardtop stand, 2 factory keys, service records, and a clean California title.
The body is finished in Astral Silver Metallic (735) and wears North American spec bumpers, headlamps, and tail lamps. The brightwork appears to be complete along with glass and trim. Exterior features include a matching removable hardtop, a folding black soft top, automatic antenna, fog lights, and chrome mirror caps. The paint is reportedly original and shows minor rock chips on the nose. Pictures of the car with the top down and soft top up are provided along with photos of the hardtop on the included stand.
The OEM 14” bundt wheels are wrapped in Kumho Solus TA11 tires measuring 205/75 all around with 2015 date codes shown. Contemporary center caps with chrome stars are shown on each wheel.
The cabin is finished in Black Leather (231) and accented by Zebrano wood trim on the dash and console. Amenities include an aftermarket JVC KD-R520 stereo, air conditioning, Tempomat Cruise Control, electric front windows, power locks, a heated rear windowpane, and a spare Michelin tire in the trunk with an original tool kit included. The black carpets have retained good color and the seats show minor creasing with some light wear on the outside bolster of the driver seat.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation with an 85-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and an analog clock. Additional auxiliary gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit analog odometer indicates 63,244 miles.
The fuel-injected 4.5L SOHC V8 originally made 180 horsepower for the US market with power routed to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller reportedly completed service to ensure the car was California compliant in 2020 and replaced the radiator in August of 2022.
A short driving clip of the car cruising at speed has been provided below.
The R107 is one of Mercedes’ best known and longest living chassis designs. Introduced for the 1972 model year, the R107 was in continuous production for 17 years until 1989 when the last 560SL was produced. While the R107 underwent several powertrain changes and minor cosmetic updates, the platform remained largely unchanged throughout the run making it one of the most iconic MBs of all time. These long nose roadsters elicit immediate nostalgic reactions and offer tremendous driving enjoyment for a very reasonable price. While prices for low-mile 560SL examples have skyrocketed in recent years, the 380SL & 450SL variants have remained comparatively affordable while offering virtually all of the ownership enjoyment of their larger displacement brethren. This specific example is finished in a handsome Astral Silver Metallic (735) with low mileage for a 42-year-old vehicle and is sure to provide enough drivability and performance to be enjoyed at will.

Love seeing a clean 107! To find one today with nice paint, leather, tops, wood, and dash is getting almost impossible today.

Nice clean example of an iconic 80s SL here. The honest, straightforward presentation is a plus in my book. These US bumper 450's have really been undervalued and I think good ones like this are super smart buys. Nice job by the seller - GLWA!
