This 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL Carat by Duchatelet was previously auctioned in February of 2023 and is being relisted with new photos and an adjusted reserve. The car is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over a Beige Leather (275) interior and powered by a 5.6L V8 M117 engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include a power sunroof, custom wet bar, Cartier crystal clock, 7” Kenwood TV/AV system with navigation, refrigerated center console, automatic climate control, folding rear seat trays, custom glass compartment built into dash, and rear footrests. Service records since new are included with the car and recent maintenance includes new rear accumulators with extras accompanying the sale, and a transmission service. Original records include the Carat order form and business card, original window sticker, and handwritten notes. This Carat shows 149k miles on the odometer and is now offered by the seller with factory literature, factory keys, documented service records, a clean Carfax report and a clean Michigan title.
The body is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) and features paint-matched lower cladding and North American-spec front and rear bumpers. Factory badging has been removed from the decklid and replaced with a Carat Duchatelet plaque showing the “Cullinan” trim name. Included in the Duchatelet treatment is a SEC front end conversion. The original boomerang-style TV antenna remains mounted to the decklid. Exterior features include a power sunroof, power adjustable side mirrors, headlight wipers, chrome trim accents on the bumpers, window frames, and door handles. The seller reports sun damage on the hood near the left side of the grille and on the rear decklid. Detailed photos of the exterior can be found in the gallery.
Factory 15″ Gullideckel alloy wheels wear Definity tires measuring 205/65 all around with 2018 date codes shown. The silver painted wheels present well with very minor blemishes in the finish shown.
The cabin is trimmed in Carat-specific Beige Leather (275) with color-matched door inserts and carpets. The factory seats have been replaced with wider, more plush seats featuring custom leather covers. Additionally, the headrests, center consoles, door cards, dashboard, steering wheel, pillars, and steering wheel have been recovered in matching supple leather. According to Carat, more than 15 hides provide the leather for a Cullinan conversion. Burl wood veneers accent the dashboard and center console from the factory with additional Burl wood added by Carat to the seat backs, tray tables, dashboard, and shift knob. The veneer is fading, cracking, and flaking in various areas. Equipment includes heated and powered front and rear seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and power-operated windows. Additional interior upgrades from Carat Duchatelet include a custom wet bar, Cartier crystal clock, 7” Kenwood TV/AV system with navigation, refrigerated center console, automatic climate control, folding rear seat trays, custom glass compartment built into dash, and rear footrests. An aftermarket touchscreen head unit has been added to the center console and a VHS player is positioned under the rear bench seat. The original Carat-modified cabin shows wear across leather surfaces along with some warping and cracking on the rear hat shelf.
Carat-specific instrumentation replaces factory dials and includes a 160-mph speedometer and 7k-rpm tachometer as well as a clock and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 149k miles.
The fuel-injected 5.6-liter M117 V8 was factory rated at 238 horsepower and 288 lb-ft of torque when new with power sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Thorough service and maintenance records are included showing decades of history. Services for late 2022 and early 2023 include a fuel injection service, transmission service, and new rear accumulators from Mercedes-Benz of St. Clare Shores.
This Carat includes a Carfax report showing an accident-free history and linear mileage updates. The car is now offered by the seller with factory literature, factory keys, documented service records, a clean Carfax report and a clean Michigan title.

Hello everybody, Welcome to the relisting of this opulent 1986 Carat Duchatelet Cullinan! I'm the photographer that was lucky enough to get multiple photoshoots with this car, and these current photos present this 1 of 15 automobile the way that it should be presented. I have many many photos with this car, along with previous walk around videos from the old listing. If anyone has concerns about the way anything looks in the photos, I have no problem providing many more, just reach out and I can send you the google drive! Thanks a lot -Hunter
Welcome to the auction of my 1986 Carat by Duchatelet Cullinan! This ultra-rare (1 of 15), Teutonic automotive treasure comes with a copious amount of provenance (including complete service records and manuals, including audio upgrades), replete with information detailing the original customer purchase, via the Mercedes European Delivery Program, that allowed him to purchase the car in the U.S., but take actual delivery, himself, at the factory based out of Stuttgart, Germany and drive the bare metal beauty to Belgium to Duchatelet for it's bespoke transformation into his "personal limousine." For those car collectors who have online channels, there is quite an intriguing odyssey associated with this spectacular Carat that would lend itself to some great, unforgettable storytelling content chronicling how this Carat began it's time on these shores in Boca Raton, Florida, yet made it's way to Detroit, "Motor City," Michigan. So, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask! Thanks! -Bibliophile26
