This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is finished in Nautical Blue Metallic over Palominoleather and power is provided by a 5.5-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission with a limited-slip differential. The car shows registration history in Illinois followed by Arizona starting in 2006. In 2012 the car relocated to Washington state where it's remained ever since. Features include a dark blue soft top, a removable hardtop, fog lights, a Becker cassette stereo, electric windows, central locking, and automatic climate control. In preparation for the sale, the car received a fresh oil and filter change, and partial records for service and recent work will be included. Now showing 106k miles, this R107 is now offered by the seller with a tool kit, spare gullideckel wheels, a Carfax report, and a clean Washington title.
The car is finished in Nautical Blue Metallic (929) and features a paint-matched removable hardtop along with a dark blue soft top. Both the hardtop seals and soft top were replaced within the last 2 years. Additional exterior features include fog lights, a power antenna, and chrome-accented bumpers and trim. The Carfax report lists two damage reports in 2010 and the seller states there is currently no visible evidence of prior repair work. Extensive photos are provided in the gallery showing the details of the car.
Factory chrome 15″ eight-hole alloy wheels are mounted with 205/65 Bridgestone Turanza tires with 2014 date codes. The car was factory-equipped with power steering, fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. A spare set of wheels are included in the sale which consist of 3 OEM chrome gullideckels and one silver painted aftermarket gullideckel.
The interior is upholstered in Palomino leather (274) and shows matching carpets and door cards with a black upper dashboard and steering wheel. Interior appointments include a Becker Grand Prix AM/FM/cassette stereo, electric windows, central locking, and automatic climate control. Original burl wood trim accents the center console and the dash is clean with no cracks.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation consisting of a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel economy, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows just over 106k miles.
The 5.5-liter V8 was factory rated at 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission with a limited-slip differential. An oil and filter change was recently performed in preparation for the sale. A service in September 2023 included new spark plugs and a new starter. In 2019 the power steering fluid was flushed, along with a transmission service and new steering gear which included an alignment. Partial records are included in the sale.
Videos below show a walk around, interior tour, cold start, underbody view, and driving footage of the car.

@VikingCat Thanks for your questions — happy to clarify: 1. The transmission shows light surface oiling underneath, but there is no active leak or dripping. It’s been stable and hasn’t required topping off. 2. Radio and power antenna are both currently working as intended. 3. No fluid leaks are present when the car is parked — no puddles or drips underneath. 4. As for the coolant, the level is within normal range and has remained stable. The engine runs at proper temperature with no signs of overheating, so a flush hasn’t been necessary during my ownership. Let me know if I can provide anything else.
I was reading through the service records. Can you confirm 1. the transmission leak has been resolved, 2. The radio and antenna work, Does the car leak any fluids? When was the last time coolant was flushed? Thanks
@I_B_Bass Good question — I haven’t changed the brake fluid since I’ve owned the car, and I don’t have documentation from the previous owner either. It’s possible the previous owner took care of it, but I can’t confirm that. That said, the car hasn’t indicated that a brake fluid change is due, and everything feels and performs as it should.
I noticed that at the most recent service brake fluid replacement was deferred. Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t see brake fluid replacement noted in any of the other service records, is that correct?
@VikingCat Thanks for the kind words — I really appreciate it! Yes, the Carfax report is posted and open to view directly on the listing. You should be able to access it easily in the auction page. As for the accidents, from what I understand, they both occurred over 15 years ago, during the ownership of the first owner. Unfortunately, I don’t have documentation about the repairs, but based on the Carfax and how the car presents today, it appears they were minor — possibly just cosmetic front and rear incidents. There’s absolutely no sign of previous damage anywhere on the car. It drives beautifully and looks like a showroom piece — the condition really speaks for itself. Happy to answer anything else you’re curious about!
Hi. Really pretty car. Love color. Did you post the carfax reports? What were the accidents? Specifically what was damaged and replaced/fixed?
@WhidbeyDan Good day! Thanks so much for the question. I don’t have a stand for the hardtop—what you see in the listing is exactly what comes with the car. That said, I’ve been using a ceiling-mounted pulley system to lift and store the hardtop, and it’s worked great for me. Just wanted to be fully transparent about that. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with—happy to answer any questions!

@I_B_Bass Hi there and thank you for the kind words! The car is in excellent original condition and has been meticulously maintained. At the last service, everything checked out great—no issues were noted, and nothing was flagged as needing attention soon. It’s turn-key ready and fully prepped for the summer season. Just hop in and enjoy the sunshine and the drive! Let me know if you have any other questions—I’m happy to help.
Gorgeous vehicle. Was there anything noted at any of the last services that needed attention or would need attention soon that has not yet been addressed?
@Creston Thank you so much — that truly means a lot! I totally agree with you — while there’s something special about a fully restored car, there’s a unique charm and authenticity in a well-preserved original. It tells a quiet story all its own. Really appreciate you taking the time to share that — glad to connect with a fellow enthusiast!
Lovely to see a fully original car. I'm all about the cars that are fully refurbished with new interiors, etc, but seeing a clean original example is what it's all about.
