This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16v Cosworth was originally ordered for German born DTM race winner and factory driver Ellen Lohr for the 1991 race season, as each driver got a Mercedes-Benz modified by AMG of their choosing. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over an Anthracite Leather (271) interior, power comes from a 2.5L 16-valve I4 power plant with the cylinder head developed by Cosworth mated to a Getrag 5-speed dogleg manual transmission. Equipment includes factory Cosworth bucket seats by Recaro in the front and rear, sunroof, optional factory fire extinguisher, heated seats, climate control, AMG Aero I wheels, and Evo II muffler. The selling dealer notes recent services including an oil service, transmission service, differential service, coolant flush, brake fluid flush, new tires, and recently a suspension refresh. The odometer currently displays just over 130k kilometers (81k miles) and this W201 is offered with three keys, comprehensive AMG paperwork, Ellen Lohr memorabilia linking her with the car, extensive service records, and TÜV documentation.
This 190E 2.5-16v is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) with matching lower cladding, and painted door handles, trunk handle, and grille believed to be done by AMG. The car also has Land, Sea, Air badges on the front and rear. The body kit is specific to Cosworth specs and includes a deeper aerodynamic chin spoiler, side skirts, rear air dam, fender flares, side cladding, and trunk spoiler. Other exterior features include a sliding sunroof with tilt function, an electrically adjustable side mirror, telescopic antenna, and fog lights. An AMG W201 muffler and exhaust tip from the Evo II is attached. The car comes with full European lighting including glass Bosch headlights and amber corner lenses. Ellen Lohr’s signature is inked on the C-pillar with clear paint protection film protecting it. Original vinyl stickers with her name are on the rear windows. Detailed photos of the exterior can be seen in the gallery.
This example wears 16” AMG Aero I wheels and Nexen Nfera Primus tires measuring 225/45 and showing 2023 date codes. The wheels were professionally refinished in 2023. ATE AMG optioned big brakes from the 190E 3.2 are tucked behind the Aero I wheels. The front and rear calipers have been sent out and professionally refinished and the authentic AMG flat center caps remain on the Aero I wheels. Stainless steel braided brake lines have been installed along with new fluid. The SLS rear suspension has been flushed and the system gone through mechanically with invoices. New tie rods and lower control arms with ball joints have been fitted up front and the rear suspension has been mechanically refreshed.
The seats are upholstered in Anthracite leather (271) with matching door panels and carpeting. Notable features include heated factory front sport seats, individual rear bucket seats, power windows, power locks, and a late model Mercedes-Benz head unit. This car came optioned with a Mercedes-Benz fire extinguisher under the front driver seat. The dashboard is crack-free and all four door panels are free of shrinking common on W201s. A new A/C compressor was installed complete with a system flush and charge.
The four-spoke leather wrapped Momo/AMG M38 steering wheel is affixed to the steering column and frames a 260-kmh speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel economy, and fuel level. Readouts for voltage and oil temperature are mounted in the center stack along with a lap timer. The six-digit odometer shows 130k kilometers (81k miles).
The 2.5-liter M102 4-cylinder was developed in collaboration with Cosworth and power is estimated to be slightly higher than factory ratings of 194 horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque due to the AMG Evo II exhaust. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a dogleg Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer notes recent services including an oil service, transmission service, differential service, brake, and a coolant flush. New rocker arms were installed in the engine in 2020. Additionally, the car recently underwent a full suspension refresh and received a new AC compressor.
This W201 is offered by the seller with three keys, comprehensive AMG paperwork, Ellen Lohr memorabilia linking her with the car, and TÜV documentation.
Videos provided by the seller below provide an in depth look at the car along with the legendary history and heritage behind the car.
These 2.5-16V W201 Mercedes-Benzs are special cars – there’s no way around it. The dogleg gearbox paired with the Cosworth M102 cylinder head screams motorsport in a time when Mercedes-Benz did not yet dominate the racing scene. To be honest, the car was a bit of a black sheep in their otherwise stoic line up. This particular example is one of the coolest W201s we’ve ever seen. Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM Racing) was one of the most exciting and competitive racing series of the early ‘90s with manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Opel, and the likes duking it out in millimeter tight racing. This was race winner Ellen Lohr’s personal car. AMG gave each of their drivers the hottest road going W201 to pair with their weaponized track variant. Please look through the memorabilia attached to the car. The story is incredible and this is a physical manifestation of a time that has gone and passed. From Ellen Lohr’s signature on the C-pillar, the picture of her and F1 World Champion Keke Rosberg posing inside of one of the AMG race cars (who she passed on one of the last laps to take her first race win), to the AMG documentation, immaculate service records to keep this car road worthy, the big AMG brakes from the 190E 3.2 – there’s just too much to list. To keep it short and simple, this car is the epitome of wúnderbar! There's no question this is truly a piece of history, not just a car, fit for the finest of collectors.

@Cshai How fun that would be.... running around Europe in this beast (or any of this dealer's other offerings). A man can dream; perhaps I'll buy a lotto ticket later (it's a nice day in ATL to drop the top in the Boxster...)

@GoBoGo I'm sure you'd be able to that organizing it privately or if seller is very helpful with some help from him.

This is just a curious question, I am not a bidder (I wish!) Since this car is in already in Germany, could you do something analogous to European Delivery back in the day? Meaning, fly to Germany, pick it up and drive throughout Europe on vacation and THEN ship to the us?
@UncleFred1 AMG was the first owner with number plates (LB EL 415 / EL: Ellen Lohr) and it was built for Ellen Lohr. It has in total 5 owners, the last 22 years in the same ownership of a very passionated Mercedes collector.

Didn’t ask sooner…is Ellen the current owner? If not, how many owners have their been? Please advise!😁👍

@Mercedesml , thank you for the response. I guess there is no way to open the valve cover in search for "AMG" camshaft stamps. Maybe? Thank you, again, beautiful 16V!

@UncleFred1 wow that’s a cool story! The car is in Germany Aalen, near Stuttgart. We sold in the past couple of similar cars to US and never had any issue. We can help in doing the import and shipping.
@MercedesDad Hi, many thanks. The car have couple of AMG upgrades and details. We checked and tested the car, it feels much stronger then a regular 2.5 16. It has brakes, exhaust and something there could be as well some little upgrades on the engine (Maybe optimized camshafts).
Well, quite a car. I think I may have even seen this car and met Ellen in Germany in 1991. Crazy. Just to confirm, the car is still In Stuttgart, and has no emissions provision for the US? I think I see a catalytic converter, but would just like to be sure either way. Please advise…I’m ready to bid for the car.👍 Thank you!
Hi seller, lovely machine! Aside from cosmetic upgrades, the only performance enhancements performed by AMG are bigger brakes and exhaust. Correct? Thank you!
Very cool historical artifact that you can drive and zip around in. I'm keen to see what it brings.
