This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300E 3.4 AMG was ordered in Germany and modified by AMG when new to be an exhibition vehicle for the Mercedes branch in Mannheim. The datacard includes the 990 AMG Version option code which features a complete body kit, OZ wheels, suspension, gauge cluster, exhaust, and 3.4L engine upgrade. Finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Black Karo Fabric (071), power is provided by a bored and stroked 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six mated to a 722.5 five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The seller acquired the car from the original owning family in 2024 and has since reconditioned the car with recent service including new tires, brakes, fluids, and more. Factory equipment includes self-leveling rear suspension, ASD (Limited Slip Differential), electrically adjustable front seats and windows, air conditioning, heated front seats, sport seats in the front and rear, and sliding roof. Now showing 188k kilometers (~117k miles) from new, this 300E 3.4 AMG is offered for sale with records dating back over 20 years, German TUV documents listing the AMG upgrades, and a clean German title.
The car received AMG bodywork shared with the 6.0 Hammer which includes a sculpted front air dam, side skirts, rear bumper and a three-piece trunk spoiler. The body kit shows original AMG stamps along with dual chrome exhaust tips at the rear. The bodywork is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with all painted chrome and trim including the grille and side molding. Exterior equipment includes front fog lights, a power-adjustable passenger door mirror, a power tilt/slide sunroof, an automatic antenna, and central locking. The seller had the car repainted in its original color last year to properly correct scratches and other normal wear over the cars life. No signs of rust or damage are present on the body.
The paint-matched 3-piece 17” AMG Aero III wheels by OZ Racing come fitted with a set of new Fulda Sport Control tires which measure 235/45 on all four corners and show 2024 date codes. The wheels were professionally refinished in 2024 along with the installation of new front brake pads and rotors. ASR slip control and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are fitted as standard. The original AMG full exhaust is installed along with AMG suspension with photos provided in the gallery.
The front and rear sport seats are trimmed in Black Karo Fabric (071) and features patterned inserts. Burl Walnut wood trim adorns the center console, gear selector, dashboard, steering wheel and door panels. The front seats are heated and power adjustable along with the passenger side mirror. Additional interior appointments include automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt head unit. The seller retrofitted a matching front armrest in factory matching fabric. The car was originally ordered with non-tinted glass and no rear headrests. The original owner had the side windows replaced with factory tinted and heat-insulating glass. The factory air conditioning has been tested and reported to be fully functional.
The 390mm Sport Design leather steering wheel fronts an AMG-specific gauge cluster with a central 280-km/h speedometer along with an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 188k km from new, approximately 117k miles.
The original 3.0-liter M104 inline-six was bored and stroked to 3.4 liters by AMG in Germany and fitted with custom AMG camshafts which help the engine produce 268 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.5 five-speed automatic transmission with ASD (Limited Slip Differential). The seller performed a full service on the car which included a flushing all fluids, new tires, a differential overhaul and reseal, new battery, and new front brake rotors and pads. AMG stickers denoting the engine modifications are found on the valve cover and radiator support. Underbody photos provided by the seller show no signs of leaks or corrosion.
The car comes with partial service records dating back over 20 years including a stamped service booklet and TUV documentation of the AMG modifications. Originally ordered for the Mannheim branch in Germany, the car was configured as an exhibition vehicle for Mercedes. The car has since remained in Germany with the original owning family until being acquired by the seller in 2024. The datacard is marked with the 990 AMG version option code indicating its intended AMG conversion from new.
A video showing the car has been provided below.
Perhaps the most bang-for-your-buck to be had today in the collector car world, the W124 AMG 990 option code cars offers authentic premerger AMG goodness without the multi-six figure price tag of a 6.0L Hammer while looking identical. The premerger era of AMG was the wild west of tuning and produced some of the most interesting cars. AMG developed the legendary Hammer 6.0L version of this car which was record-breaking at the time, beating even the most exotic of sports cars. This unique W124 3.4L was built by AMG Germany and comes complete with all the most desirable equipment including the paint-matched multi-piece OZ Aero III wheels, an AMG gauge cluster, AMG exhaust, AMG suspension, additional interior wood, and the complete AMG body kit including bumpers, side skirts and iconic three-piece spoiler. The bored and stroked 3.4-liter M104 delivers an impressive 268 horsepower in a time when other straight sixes struggled to break 200. Interestingly, this car was ordered with a factory 722.5 five-speed automatic whereas nearly all others received the four-speed. Other interesting factory options include ASD (Limited Slip Differential) and self-leveling suspension.
The 990 option code on the datacard is also an enormous value add for future collectibility and authenticates the car as a true AMG. As if that wasn't enough, this AMG's history has been well-documented from single-family ownership between 1992-2024, only transferring title between the owner's personal name, business, and wife's name. Most interestingly, the car was configured as an exhibition vehicle for the Mercedes branch in Mannheim; quite the showroom masterpiece. After proper reconditioning and servicing, this rare W124 AMG is now ready for a new home and we anticipate a thoroughly documented spec like this will prove to be a great investment down the road.

@mr_frank Hi. In the video we did a cold start. You hear the typical sound of the airpump for the catalyst converter. I will do another video with only the cold start and upload it here. The engine runs awesome. The car wasn't used for short distances. The family used the car mainly to drive to their vacation home.

Nice example. Can we get a cold startup video. The video available has music overlay. I’d like to hear what it sounds like from the engine bay, under, and back if you don’t mind.
