While the M273 V8 used in the S550 was certainly a step up from the 5.0L M113 V8 in the previous generation S-Class, these cars weren’t about 0-60 times, slalom performance, or horsepower wars. These cars were built to be as comfortable as possible while maintaining the quietest, smoothest, and most isolated ride yet still giving the driver the ability to enjoy spirited driving with the flick of the pedal. The idea of rapid comfort and unparalleled luxury has been the winning recipe for the S Class as long as it’s existed but Mercedes seemed to find all the right notions with the W221. Whether it’s a cold morning in bumper to bumper traffic or long road trips up and down the interstates, the W221 S-Class seems to make every experience ideal.
