The body is finished in Obsidian Black Metallic (197) and features AMG-specific front and rear styling along with the factory Night Package. Exterior equipment includes Dynamic LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist, a panoramic glass sunroof, power-folding mirrors, soft-close doors, a power liftgate, Surround View cameras, Parktronic, aluminum-look running boards with rubber studs, dark-tinted rear glass, and a receiver hitch. The paint shows visible swirl marks, along with minor blemishes around the hood emblem and front bumper. Additional wear is noted on the exterior mirrors and door handles. Carfax reports minor rear damage in October 2020, with no structural damage or airbag deployment noted.
Factory 21” AMG double-spoke wheels are mounted with Continental CrossContact tires measuring 295/40 at all four corners with 2025 date codes. The front wheels show moderate curb rash, with lighter scuffs also visible at the rear. The left-front wheel had a slight bend along the outer lip and has been professionally repaired/straightened. Carfax records show that four tires were replaced and a four-wheel alignment was performed at 94,877 miles in February 2026. Factory braking equipment consists of four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers with cross-drilled front rotors. The GLS550 also features Airmatic suspension with Adaptive Damping System Plus.
The cabin is upholstered in Espresso Brown leather with a contrasting Black upper dashboard and Burl Walnut wood trim. Amenities include heated, ventilated, and massaging multicontour front seats with memory, three-zone automatic climate control with rear A/C, heated and cooled front cupholders, rear door sunshades, power-folding second- and third-row seating, and a dual-screen rear entertainment system. COMAND infotainment provides navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, while a Harman Kardon premium sound system handles audio. The interior presents well overall for the mileage, with light creasing visible on the seating surfaces and some wear noted on the steering wheel trim.
The wood and leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel features shift paddles and fronts analog gauges for road speed, engine speed, fuel level, and coolant temperature. A central digital display provides additional vehicle and trip information. The digital odometer currently indicates approximately 98,350 miles.
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter M278 V8 rated at 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque from the factory. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels through the 4MATIC system. Documented service includes replacement of the rear brake pads and rotors in 2020, followed by a radiator replacement and cooling-system service in 2022. A major service at 70,856 miles in 2023 included front brake pads and rotors, spark plugs, brake fluid, four tires, and a four-wheel alignment. The coolant reservoir and serpentine belt were replaced in 2024. At 85,170 miles in June 2025, Carfax records an internal transmission repair, transmission module reprogramming, fluid replacement, and additional transmission service. Further work at 94,877 miles in February 2026 included turbocharger and oil cooler line repairs, cooling-system service, four new tires, and an alignment. The coolant reservoir was replaced the following month, and the A/C compressor was replaced at 98,328 miles in July 2026. The selling dealer also reports a recent engine oil and filter change.
The Carfax report shows 35 service history records and two previous owners. The first owner registered the vehicle in Louisiana where the car remained until relocating to Florida with the selling dealer. The aforementioned minor rear damage was reported in October 2020 along with linear mileage updates from new.
There’s something delightfully over-the-top about the GLS550. Mercedes took a seven-passenger luxury SUV, dropped in a 449-horsepower twin-turbo V8 with 516 lb-ft of torque, added air suspension, and somehow still made the whole thing look fairly restrained. Sitting just below the GLS63, the 550 has always been the sleeper of the X166 range. It is quick enough to surprise just about anyone, but without shouting about it. That is a big part of the charm. It can haul a family, luggage, or a weekend’s worth of gear in complete comfort, then lean on that huge wave of V8 torque when the road opens up. With newer luxury SUVs increasingly turning to smaller engines and electrification, the GLS550 now feels like a particularly entertaining holdout from an era when Mercedes solved the problem of moving a big SUV simply by giving it a big engine. We love the designo Espresso leather interior to give it a pop of color inside the cabin. Recent attention to the transmission, turbocharger system, cooling system, tires, and A/C rounds out an example that has seen meaningful service where it counts.
