This 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML55 AMG was sold new in California where it remained under the first owners care until 2022 when it was acquired by the current seller. Finished in Black (040) over Black Exclusive leather (561A), power is provided by a 5.4-liter V8 driving all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes xenon headlamps, 18″ AMG wheels, factory AMG bodykit, power-adjustable heated front seats, cruise control, Sony headunit, Bose audio, and a lockable safe located beneath the front passenger seat. The most recent service in February 2024 included a transmission service with fluid flush and filter, differential service, power steering fluid flush, new air filter, new drive belt tensioner, new idler pulley, micro V belt, and an oil service. This ML55 has 66k miles and is now offered by the seller with a spare tire and cover, cargo cover, original spare head unit, factory literature, a Carfax report, and a clean Arkansas title.

The truck is finished in Black (040) and is equipped with an AMG body kit consisting of revised bumpers, side skirts, and wheel arch flares. Additional exterior features include fog lights, xenon headlamps with washers, a power sunroof, roof rails, and a factory exhaust with dual AMG-stamped outlets. The Carfax report lists a damage report in September 2004 when another vehicle swiped the back rear corner while it was parked. The repair was reportedly all cosmetic and performed by Mercedes-Benz of Huntington Beach. The headlights are both original and remain clear with no signs of oxidation. The seller notes the front bumper has a couple of hairline cracks at the bottom lower corners. OEM side steps are installed on each side.

Factory five-spoke 18″ AMG wheels wear Continental CrossContact tires measuring 285/50 on all four corners and show 2018 date codes. Braking is provided by factory painted red calipers clamping discs at all four corners. The factory spare wheel and tire are located in the rear cargo space along with the cover.

The cabin features seats upholstered in Black Exclusive leather (561A) along with matching door panels and carpets. Wood veneer accents the center console, doors, and steering wheel. Equipment includes power-adjustable heated front seats, driver’s seat memory, cruise control, air conditioning, Bose audio, and a lockable safe located beneath the front passenger seat. All front and rear headrests are included and the rear cargo area is equipped with the factory spare tire, cover, first aid kit, and jack. The original floor mats included are embroidered with ML55 AMG. All electronics reportedly function as designed including A/C and heat.

The wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel frames white instrumentation consisting of an AMG-branded 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Digital readouts for outside temperature and time are located on each side with all pixels in working order. The digital odometer shows just over 66k miles of which 48k were added by the original owner and the remaining 18k by the seller since July 2022.

The 5.4-liter M113 V8 produced 342 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The most recent service in February 2024 included a transmission service with a fluid flush and filter, differential service, power steering fluid flush, new air filter, new drive belt tensioner, new idler pulley, micro V belt, and an oil service.

The MB Market Insights

When introduced in 2000, the ML55 AMG was the world’s fastest production SUV making it a pioneer in one of the largest and most popular automotive segmentations today. While fast SUVs are commonplace on dealership lots today, the idea was somewhat foriegn at the turn of the century so Mercedes produced the ML55 in limited quantities. The naturally aspirated AMG-tuned M113 has proven to be a robust and reliable engine and was also used in the W202 C43 and W210 E55. Just over 4k units were produced in total for the US market with only 1,105 in 2001. This ML55 has notably low mileage compared to the vast majority on the market today. Additionally, condition is well above average as most have been driven hard and put away wet. With such limited production numbers, these trucks are getting harder to find and we expect values to continue to trend upwards for well-kept, low mileage examples like this.

Seller - could you please comment on the radiator reservoir not being level…is it simply the mounting or is the engine not sitting level, perhaps due to an engine mount….all the other similar pictures for other MLs are showing the fluid level (ref pictures 221-226)….thanks…
