This 1962 Mercedes-Benz 220S “Fintail” is a U.S. example finished in White-Gray (158) over Medium Red MB-Tex (177) and powered by a 2.2-liter M180 inline-six paired to a 4-speed manual column shift. It was purchased by the current owner and seller in 2010 and currently shows 28k miles on the 5-digit odometer but is likely 128k miles from new. Notable features include single piece glass Euro headlamps, front and rear bumper guards, manual windows, LED headlight bulbs, bluetooth radio, and more. The seller notes that a lot of service was performed under his ownership but there are no service records that accompany the work. Recent services performed by the owner have been a rebuilt generator, brake booster, new rotors, brake calipers, e-brake shoes, new exhaust, door seals, front/rear windshield seals, suspension components, and shifter bushings. The private seller is located out of Pennsylvania and this W111 sedan recently cleared state inspection and the owner holds a clean Pennsylvania title in his name. The car comes with three original keys, tire iron, and full sized spare wheel.
This Fintail shows White-Gray (158) paint which was repainted in the original color 10 years ago by the current owner. Exterior features include one-piece glass Euro headlights with LED bulbs, front and rear chrome bumpers in good condition, and this W111 is a non-sunroof example aka “slicktop.” Original trim, Sekurit glass, lights, chrome wiper blades, and brightwork are detailed in the gallery and show in good shape. The seals on the front and rear windshields have been replaced by the current owner. The seller notes some rust appearing on the front passenger fender and a little on the front passenger door. There is some rust seen on the inside of the fenders with the bonnet propped open.
Original 14” steel wheels accompany the car along with the original painted hubcaps in White-Gray. Hemisphere tires are shown mounted which were recently put on by the current owner. New brake calipers, new brake rotors, and e-brake shoes were installed and the owner notes the car will stop from 80 mph and not pull right or left. Some suspension components were installed under the current ownership along with a new exhaust.
The original interior is trimmed in Medium Red MB-Tex (177) and shows in original condition with adjustable front seats. Matching Red loop carpets are shown on the transmission tunnel with rubber floor mats front and rear. A new aftermarket set of matching red carpets will be included in the sale. All of the red carpet floor mats are included with the car. A black padded dashboard shows some cracks and the black runs along the door panels complimenting the red door cards. Original walnut veneer is shown lining the dashboard and below the windshield with some fading shown. All original switchgear along with the original gauge cluster and clock are complete. The seller notes all of the gauges operate accordingly and there is a retro style bluetooth head unit and JBL speakers installed. Crank windows are at each door and there are new door seals installed along with new door sill rubber. The replacement headliner uses original OEM material and shows in excellent condition with no water stains.

We adore when largely original cars show up on here, especially ones from the ‘60s. This car is into its seventh decade on this planet and it’s been fortunate enough to have been maintained, and obviously loved and driven, by its owners. The current owner takes regular 250-mile road trips in his W111 and shows it totally happy and stable at 80 mph on the highway with its Solex carbs in reportedly good condition. We have experience with the M180 engine and they’re completely adequate in modern traffic and even sound wonderful with your foot deep in the throttle. The biggest green flag that you should be looking for when hunting for a classic car like this is to search for one that has been regularly driven. This one fits the bill. It’s also fantastic to see the brakes have been gone through and it has some important rebuilt Buds Benz components installed. The driving video instills confidence to bidders that this is a classic car that can be reliably driven and we love that.

Anyone needing videos, send me a message I have plenty as recently as just now and going back 10+ years.The originals are not missing, I have them in storage somewhere. The tires on the original wheels are no good, but I do have the hubcaps and wheels. I don’t know the exact location of them so I did not want to include it in the sale mentioning. After the sale, once I get more time I will go through all my parts and whatever I find specific to this car I can forward to the new owner. I just did not want to mention it and make a promise in an untimely manner. I may also have black carpet in addition to the red, but again I have to double check and cannot make any promises it’s been many years since I’ve collected all this stuff, along with parts for my other cars. The original wheels will only give you an option of Maxxis tires in size 13, I got a brand new spare 14” wheel from a pagoda and put a new 14” tire on it in the trunk. Driving on the highway with these 14” and in the rain, adds a lot of peace of mind compared to the 13” Maxxis. I’ve driven on both, the 14”s are much more friendly for the way this car was used.@3PedalKing Shoot me a message, I will send you over videos. Wire hanging lose in pic 79 is the USB connection port for your phone. It is Bluetooth, but you have the option to plug your phone in directly. Hubcaps have been changed from a newer model (14” versus factory 13”), they were all painted but the drivers side started peeling a little so I removed the paint on the one side entirely. They were painted about 10 years ago. No AC, not many 1962 220S will have that.Can you post the new videos here? Can you share more under carriage pics preferably on a lift to check for rust spots, pics 24 and 111 show little rust and bubbles. What is the wire hanging loose in pic #79? The wheel hubcaps are not matching the color on the driver side, has they been sourced out from another car assuming the originals are missing? @Static50 thank you, I’ve had this one since I was 18…I’ve had fintails since 14 and my grandfather had a few new along with my dad and uncle when they were kids as first cars. I’ve been around them more than I havent and this was the one I’ve always kept. The manual transmission makes all the difference and with the shifter on the column, you really got yourself a good time here!Wow! My first Mercedes. Blue over blue! Love the red.
