This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in Horizon Blue (304) over a Navy Leather interior and power is provided by a numbers-matching 2.8L M130 inline-six engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a color-matched Pagoda hardtop, a navy soft top, 14″ steel wheels with paint-matched hubcaps, four-wheel disc brakes, and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit. The SL was acquired by the current owner this year from the previous owner who owned the car for approximately 22 years. Records indicate four owners total and a cosmetic refurbishment in 1987 followed by a mechanical refurbishment in 1989. Regular checks and tune-ups have been performed as needed under the current owners care. Spare parts include the original Becker head unit and a fullsize spare. This W113 SL shows 67k miles and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with tools, manufacturer’s literature, a data card, and clean Virginia title in the current owner’s name.
The exterior is finished in Horizon Blue (304) as the original data card states although the body received a frame-off repaint and refurbishment in the mid-80’s after remaining in storage for a decade. All brightwork is reportedly original and shows well with no pitting or blemishes. Exterior features include a color-matched and original removable Pagoda hardtop, navy folding soft top, a driver-side mirror, dual polished exhaust outlets, and a Navy pinstripe chasing the belt line of the body.
Steel 14″ wheels show paint-matched hubcaps in Horizon Blue and wear Federal tires. A full-size spare is located under a vinyl cover in the trunk along with a tool roll. Braking handled by discs at all four corners.
The cabin is trimmed in Navy Leather with matching door panels and Navy loop carpeting. As part of the cosmetic refurbishment in 1987, the cabin received new wood trim, new carpet, and new seat covers. Amenities include three-point seatbelts, a locking glovebox, and an aftermarket Kenwood head unit. The original Becker head unit is offered in the sale. The interior shows nicely with a Horizon Blue and Navy Tex dashboard. The interior of the soft top shows some discoloration but presents well and folds neatly.
The black two-spoke steering wheel features a painted horn ring and frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 67k miles which is believed to be original.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six features mechanical fuel injection and was rated from the factory at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Records showing regular tune ups and maintenance have been kept with the SL and the 1989 mechanical refurbishment included the following:
● All new pistons, rings, sleeves
● All new brake calipers/pads
● New exhaust system
● New fuel tank and fuel lines
● All new injectors
● Rebuilt injection pump
● New fuel tank and fuel lines
● A rebuilt automatic transmission
This 280SL shows 67k miles and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with tools, manufacturer’s literature, a data card, spare parts, records, and clean Virginia title in the current owner’s name.
A video has been provided by the seller showing a walk around, interior tour, and driving functions.

Just wanted to come on and say welcome! We are proud to offer this beautiful 1968 280SL finished in the very rare Horizon Blue. I must say that out of all the W113 Pagodas I have been given the opportunity to drive, this one takes it to top of the list. It handles how it should, delivers power when needed, and is truly a nice car to show off. I wish all of the bidders good luck and also welcome all of the others that are just here to watch. I'm also here to answer any questions or concerns y'all may have. Thanks! -Stone
