This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL was first sold through Wetzel Motor Works out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and remained registered in Pittsburgh until 2004 when it moved to Georgia where it’s currently offered for sale by the selling dealer. This SL is finished in Arctic White (147) over Medium Red Leather (277) leather and powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a removable paint-matched original hardtop, a rebuilt original Becker head unit, air conditioning with automatic climate control, a black soft top, original Medium Red carpets and floor mats, and the original airbag steering wheel. Comprehensive servicing and maintenance has been performed in preparation for the sale including a complete timing chain service including rails, and tensioner, a new compressor and AC service, a new muffler, a major fluid service including oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid, a new steering coupler, new plug wires, and a fresh alignment. Complete records are offered with this SL including two data cards and the original window sticker. This example is offered by the selling dealer with 42k miles on the odometer, extensive service records, factory literature, an original tool kit, two keys, both top keys, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Georgia title.
The body is finished in Arctic White (147) and reportedly features original body panels. The seller notes the left front fender was bumped in a parking lot and painted previously with coinciding receipts included. While the Carfax remains clean, paint meter readings in the gallery show evidence of paintwork on the fender. Exterior features include a manually retractable black soft top with tonneau cover, chrome mirror caps, North American-spec headlamps and bumpers, chrome fender guards, front fog lamps, and a black and red pinstripe along the beltline of the body. A new Hirschmann power antenna has been installed. The original paint-matched hardtop is included and features original glass with rear defrost and photos are shown in the gallery.
This example wears silver-painted 15x7” Gullideckel wheels wrapped in new Michelin tires measuring 205/65 on all four corners with less than 300 miles logged since installation.
The cabin is upholstered in Medium Red Leather (277) across the seats, door cards, armrest, head rests, and lower dashboard. The dashboard features burl wood trim across the lower portion in addition to the center console and shift surround. The original Becker head unit remains in place and has been recently rebuilt. Interior features include air conditioning with automatic climate control, a power Hirschmann antenna, and flip-down visors with vanity mirrors and courtesy lights. The rear windows of the soft top are new and remain clear. No cracks are shown in the center console or dashboard and the clock and ambient temperature gauges light up and function as intended.
The odometer shows 42k original miles and instrumentation includes VDO gauges featuring a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and an analog odometer with trip function. Additional gauges include fuel level, oil pressure, fuel economy, and an analog clock. The gauges are trimmed with chrome rings and feature electronic warning lights along the base of the cluster, none of which are illuminated.
The 5.5-liter M117 V8 was rated at 227 horsepower and 279 lb-ft of torque when new and is paired to a 722.3 automatic four-speed transmission. Underbody photos can be seen in the gallery below. The seller notes recent service to include a complete timing chain service including rails, and tensioner, a new compressor and AC service, a new muffler, a major fluid service including oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid, a new steering coupler, new plug wires, and a fresh alignment. One of the two twin horns in front of the grille are reportedly not working.
Complete records are offered with this SL including two data cards and the original window sticker. This example is offered by the selling dealer with 42k miles on the odometer, extensive service records, factory literature, an original tool kit, two keys, both top keys, a clean Carfax report showing linear mileage updates, and a clean Georgia title.

Not a fan of the arch chrome either, have no personal experience…. But have read in other forums that depending on the gaps in adhesive could create corrosion. Again, no personal experience. Love this car regardless.

Great looking car and nice presentation. Anyone know how big a deal it is to remove the added chrome fender lip arch pieces?

Hi guys, Allen, seller here. Let me answer the most recent question first_yes the AC is cold and in the right direction, no vacuum leaks. It's like most 107's....it take a little bit to cool down, but does a good job once it has a had a chance to run for a few minutes. I will do my best to answer your questions with full disclosure and total accuracy. You are also welcome to talk to my tech with a little prior arrangement. A really nice 107 SL with excellent records, tracks and feels good on the road, fully sorted and all the electrics work. If there is an area you'd like to see more of, let me know and I'll do my best to get you more pictures. A real treat to drive, MBCA member, past MBCA and PCA region President, 40 years in business this year--I play by the Golden Rule. Good luck bidding!
