This Mercedes-Benz glass panoramic removable hardtop is finished in Black (040) and was built for use on 1990-2002 R129 series cars of the era. The top features a steel frame, a glass panoramic roof with a retractable sunshade, glass windows, and Black vinyl trim. This R129 SL hardtop is now offered with a stand and cover from the seller in Marietta, Georgia and items must be picked up in person. Buyers may choose to use a service such as uShip to have the items picked up in person and shipped.
The top is finished in Black (040) and features a panoramic glass roof and glass windows with painted steel bodywork along the frame. The original Siglia glass markings from the factory are present on the windows and visible in the gallery below. The seller notes he had the top professionally repainted in the original color by a reputable paint shop because of some light blemishes upon delivery.
The interior of the top features a retractable sunshade and grab handles on both the driver and passenger sides. The sunshade operates smoothly and extends/retracts as designed without issue. Photos of the sunshade in both positions are provided in the gallery. There is a small rip in the shade that doesn’t affect usability. The seller notes they had all of the inner vinyl panels redyed in factory Black because some pieces had an ashy finish.
The non-glass interior surfaces are trimmed in Black vinyl and photos showing the condition of the interior surfaces are provided in the gallery. The top has been tested and all latch points operate correctly when mated with an R129 chassis vehicle. Rubber and felt trim points appear in good condition with no major deterioration or obvious wear. All of the glass has a 35% smoked tint that is nano-ceramic and UV repellent.
This rare pano top has no chips, cracks or scratches in the glass. The top is accompanied by a stand and cover and is now offered by the seller in Marietta, Georgia and items must be picked up in person. Buyers may choose to use a service such as "uShip" or "DHL" to have the items picked up in person and shipped.
There’s a lot of 040 Black R129s out there and all could benefit from a panoramic glass hardtop. Unlike a lot of OEM add ons owners can spend money on on their classics, a pano top actually adds a lot of value to your SL. With winter around the corner, you get the benefit of the top-down visibility and airy interior cabin aesthetics during cold weather motoring without freezing yourself out of an enjoyable drive. This top has been totally gone through and shows in excellent condition. These are a no-brainer add on to your R129 that makes them more enjoyable during the colder months. Get out there and drive your roadsters during winter! They’re good for it, especially with an expansive glass roof above your head and when the unbearable heat of late summer arrives, the tinted windows will protect your interior from becoming a convection oven.
