This 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 was sold new in 1998 and registered in Massachusetts. Subsequent registrations include California and most recently Michigan. Finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) over Gray Leather (268), power is provided by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Equipment includes a fully power-operated black soft top with removable paint-matched hardtop, power adjustable seats with memory, power operated heated door mirrors, automatic climate control, and more. The included Carfax report shows several previous service history records and the seller reports the top hydraulics to have been rebuilt under previous ownership. This SL500 shows 162k original miles. It’s offered by the seller in Troy, Michigan with factory literature, one key, a paint-matched hardtop, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title.
The exterior is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic (744) and features a removable paint-matched hardtop with a power operated black soft top. Exterior features include power adjustable heated door mirrors, remote central locking and halogen headlamps and fog lamps. The paint is reportedly in excellent condition with no rust present. The seller notes a few small imperfections including a scuff on the rear bumper, a small ding on the left front fender, and small rock chips.
Fitted are the factory 17”Albali wheels wearing Falken tires measuring 225/55 on all four corners with 2021 date codes shown. The wheels show clear coat failure and damage to the lips. A matching full size spare wheel and tire are included in the trunk with factory tools.
The cabin is trimmed in Gray Leather (268) with Burl Walnut wood trim lining the center console and door panels with matching gray carpeting and floor mats. Interior features include power adjustable seats with memory, a power adjustable steering column, cruise control, and a Bose audio system and the original Becker head unit. The seller notes all the top hydraulics have been replaced and the soft top operates as intended. The driver set shows heavy creasing and a hole in the bottom seat cushion with the remainder of leather showing nicely with normal wear noted.
The leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer, gauges for fuel level and economy, coolant temperature, oil pressure and an analog clock. The digital odometer reads 162k miles with nearly all being added by the original owner.
This R129 is the last model year powered by the 5.0-liter M119 V8 which is factory rated at 315 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque. I just noticed one thing I have not highlighted on the CarFax report. Owner 3 & 4 were the same owner, they were family members of owner 2 and they had passed the car down into the family. So technically owner 2, 3 & 4 were different, but they were essentially the same owners.

@Enzoturbo - the AC, center vents and the transmission works perfectly well. I have a video of the car accelerating for your reference below - https://youtu.be/sZkKh0ixoEE?feature=shared
Does A/C work? Do center vents work? How does transmission shift?

You are absolutely right - these are 17” Albali wheels.
@Jhoagg Thanks for the catch!
Unless something really weird is going on, those aren’t 16” Monkar wheels as reported in the text. They’re 17” Albali wheels.
