@gyounan: Hello, the car is still available. Please contact the auction for more information.
@R129hoarder : Thanks. I agree that there was a clerical error. I have seen that happen before as well.
@ItsThatEasy : There is no clarification regarding the minor accident on CarFax, which happened before the previous owner. According to CarFax, "Accident reported, Vehicle ran off road, It hit a curb, Damage reported to: ___ Vehicle towed, Airbags did not deploy". The next entries show that the alignment was checked, but no record of a repair, just an oil change. I conclude that there was no damage, and I have not been able to find any indication of damage.
@DenisKolman78: Yes, that amount did include transport from my location. Other options are available, such as Doma Export service, which according to their website, transports vehicles from New Jersey to Poland and other countries. https://www.domaexport.com/en/index
@DenisKolman78: I have not done that before, but investigating it on this website the first quote is $2,495. Other costs may be involved. Rijeka port might be less expensive, according to my friend. https://alltransportdepot.com/ship-car-to-koper-slovenia/#:~:text=How%20to%20ship%20a%20car,it'll%20cost%20more%20upfront.
I apologize, when I went out to take the picture, I realized that indeed it did not extend. It must be still disabled, probably unplugged. I will have it re-enabled.
The request to disable auto seat belts must have been a temporary need to disable due to a passenger's medical condition. All they did was to remove the triangular belt guide piece, which I replaced with a new part. All seat belts and both seatbelt presenters operate properly. Photo 35 shows drivers side. I will post another photo of the passenger presenter later today.
Thank you for the "pleasantly honest" comment. I pride myself on being honest. I have never seen a hardtop option or aftermarket version for a 124 cabriolet. The soft top is thick and as quiet as a hardtop at any speed.
Unfortunately, I don't have access to a lift but I will try to get some pictures of the undercarriage for you. As for the location, although the car is most recently from western New York state, it was kept in a dry garage in an up-scale suburban area by a discerning gentleman who used it only on nice days for MB Club events and other pleasure trips, only in good weather. I have uploaded pictures and they should be available soon.
@95Cab Hello, the records I have do not show the wiring harness or the head gasket being replaced, and the former owner was not aware. I have to surmise that both were done previously because there is no symptom of a problem either in performance, leakage, consumption or electrical issues. The hydraulic cylinders were removed, sent to a specialty shop for repair/refurbishment, then returned and reinstalled. Receipts are shown as scanned. The top operates flawlessly. The radio works and the speakers are good, but the volume control itself is difficult to adjust. The power antenna hums but the antenna must be raised and lowered manually. The finish looks great, we call it the "Tuxedo car". Thanks for your questions.
If paid, I can hold the car in storage for a couple weeks, no problem, no charge.
Hello Denis, I can transport the car to anywhere in continental US, but unfortunately I don't have connections overseas. Domestic rates are about $.85 per mile in an open trailer. I'm sure Europe could be worked out, however. Thanks for your question.
There are no leaks in the hydraulics and the top works perfectly. I haven't been able to find a repair order however, except that the VMI shows that the valve block, top hydraulic system, was replaced under warranty in 1997. There is no dry rot on any bushings or hoses or belts. Some hoses have been replaced in previous years, as well as the engine wiring harness, as mentioned. The engine oil has just been changed and a new battery installed. While I am online, I will add that the blue "D" sticker shown on the rear, and the small badge on the grill have been removed.
These cars came with only a thick quiet soft top, glass rear window. I am not aware of any aftermarket hardtops.
Thank you PeoriaBenz, for your positive comment. Yes, I agree with the statement that the 124A is underappreciated. These are great to drive, especially with the top down!
@allenman No rust is present anywhere on the body or underneath. This car was purchased in 2003 by a good friend in the Mercedes Club, whom I had met previously. I know that he took extremely good care of this car and used it mainly for car shows and club events. I also know that it was stored each winter and meticulously maintained. The photos of the underside show no rust except on the muffler weldments, which are surface rust only.
@Apos27The highest bid will be the buyer unless the bid is lower than the Reserve amount. In that case, the auction will likely try to negotiate a compromise, and make the sale happen. Read the auction procedure, How it Works. Thanks for your bid!
