Stunning wheels - I have these on both my R129 40AE and W124 500E, and I’m increasingly convinced that these might be the new Monoblocks for these cars.
@Mtlw202indeed, she'll love the climate of San Francisco and living alongside a rare r129, w124, and a few other fun toys as she gets out on the weekends for cars & coffee events.
@thembmarketthank you! That helps - nice to see US emissions mentioned there, which might help with registering in CA and keeping total import shipping/duties/taxes/etc. well under $10k (thanks MBMarket for having the shipping quote tool here on the site - this is great!).
@Mtlw202thank you! Have spent some of the morning researching the headaches associated with importing into California. Seems it'll be a bit time-consuming, maybe a little expensive regardless, but helpful to see what all's there as I unfortunately last year discovered what a nightmare California can be even when an under-hood emissions sticker has been damaged or partially scraped off.
Do you have close-up pics of the under-hood stickers related to emissions?
Ooooh, this one's gonna get expensive! Fun!
Thanks again. May end up trying to ship for simplicity/convenience but will see. Either way can work.
@JohnSW have you ever shipped one of these? Wondering what it would take to get it to SF. Or are you willing to go as far as say somewhere in Oregon to transfer it? My SL is a bit of a creampuff at 14.5k miles but might be worth a roadtrip if great weather and all.
@JohnSWthank you! Yeah, I think that makes sense. And even if they’re different-enough, any respray will be easier with this as the base and not having to worry as much about areas under seals, behind trim, etc.; I’ll keep bidding ‘til what I can afford to spend on it. And might be a fun road trip to meet and put the roof on mine somewhere between SF and Washington.
Has anyone here compared Firemist to Crimson Red from the 40th Anniversary Edition cars? I’ve got a 40AE here in San Francisco and am looking for a pano roof, but not sure how close these colors are (ie, whether I’d still need to respray if I buy this one).
