This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC Koenig Specials originated as a German-Market car and exported to Japan soon after production. It was imported from Japan to the United Kingdom by the current owner in 2014. The odometer shows 91k kilometers (~56k miles) since new with approximately 20k kilometers (~12k miles) miles having been added under current ownership. The coupe is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Black Leather (261) and powered by an Albrex supercharged 5.5L M117 V8 paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Factory features include heated front seats, automatic climate control, a power sunroof, fire extinguisher, and factory on-board computer. In addition, this coupe has been modified by Koenig to feature widebody fenders and quarter panels, custom-built O.Z. wheels with Koenig center caps, front and rear air dams, an integrated decklid spoiler, dual exhaust tips, and Koenig badging at the front and rear. Service records have been kept under the current owners care and recent services include an oil and filter change, brake service, A/C inspection, new spark plugs, serpentine belt, radiator, and auxiliary fan. This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC Koenig Specials is offered for sale by the current owner with service records, one key, importation papers, and a clean U.K. title.
This coupe is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) and features a Version II widebody conversion from Koenig Specials including fenders, quarter panels, front and rear air dams, and an integrated rear spoiler. Koenig Specials badging can be seen on the decklid and in place of the grille badge. Dual exhaust tips have been added under the rear bumper and factory side marker lights are positioned in the front fenders with dark amber corner lights noted. Detailed photos of the exterior can be seen in the gallery.
Custom three-piece O.Z. Racing wheels are featured wearing Pirelli tires at the front and rear. The wheels measure 17x10 up front and 17x12 in the rear with subsequent tire sizes showing 255/40 and 335/35 respectively. The wheels show well with little to no wear and display Koenig Specials center caps.
The cabin is trimmed in Black Leather (261) and accented by burl wood veneer on the center console, dashboard, door cards, and steering wheel. Interior features include heated front seats, a power sunroof, a factory fire extinguisher, and a factory on-board computer with controls mounted in the center console veneer. An aftermarket touchscreen head unit is shown and all power functions are reportedly functional.
The gauge cluster has been modified with a 300kph speedometer and shows the factory-optioned on-board computer in place of the tachometer. On the left of the cluster ancillary gauges are shown and the analog odometer displays 91k kilometers (~56k miles).
This example is powered by an Albrex supercharged 5.5L M117 V8 paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Albrex kit was originally offered by Koenig Specials and this upgrade was installed under prior ownership. In 2014 the supercharger kit was overhauled when the current owner imported the car to the U.K. Power is supposedly increased to 400bhp from 300hp stock. Service records have been kept under the current owners care and recent services include an oil and filter change, brake service, A/C inspection, new spark plugs, serpentine belt, radiator, and auxiliary fan.

The seller has included the following videos:
We see a few Koenig Specials examples every year and every example is special in their own right. For those seeking a more exclusive, more expensive, and more in-your-face option compared to the already opulent C126 Coupe there were few options and Koenig offered the king of kits by far. If the widebody look didn't kick your heart in high gear, the Albrex supercharger was the obvious next step. This specific car was ordered in Germany, immediately sent to Japan, and now inspires visions of this Widebody howling up The Bayshore Route between Tokyo and Yokohama. This collector is very familiar with these cars and continually delivers clean examples to market. No telling where this coupe will end up next but we're excited to be a part of the journey.

Congratulations to both the high bidder and seller for making a deal to sell this Koenig Specials post-auction today for $140,000.
@MBFahrer questionable statement in many respects, as all the AMG Japan cars mostly have little to no provenance (I should know i have bought 15/16 over the past 10 years) and AMG in Germany are not particularly good or willing to answer questions about individual cars even the ones modified in Germany. At the end of the day all these cars are "just" modded W126s as you say, I own a standard 560SEC which has over 400,000 kms on the clock, I have owned until late 2019 a 560SEC 6.0 AMG Japan spec. so I have a pretty good basis for comparison and the standard car is an excellent, durable and enjoyable car to drive, what AMG and Koenig add is rarety, notoriety and performance, and a bit of “street cred” if you like, the Koenig considerably more than the AMG I have to add. For me the Koenig is the more fun car to drive, on track it takes corners in a way that the AMG cannot touch for example, it is just as fast as well and the super charger mod is extremely well done, especially compared to the twin turbo version of the same car. So there you are. Peter
@AE327 AMG cars have provenance, heritage, brand recognition, and a widespread following. This, while an incredible car, is just a modded W126 at the end of the day. Like trying to compare a 360 to an Enzo. Two different things.
@TonsOfGas Agreed.

Yeah that certainly should have hit reserve. Import taxes, shipping and auctions fees not included- wow!

@NotaSir I sold my 560SEC 6.0 AMG in 2019 for well over $250K it is a great car, but I would personally take the Koenig, it is more fun to drive, as fast, and much rarer. Peter
Suppose I'll kick it off

I personally love the Albrex setup on this. I know some will debate first gen vs second gen Koenig but I think the performance makes this really fun.
Considering an AMG widebody with engine mods goes for over half a mill today I'd say this one has a ways to go or it'll be rnm
Make the Patina Collective work for this one boys.

Curious about the importing process (to the USA)? If any members here can chime in, I'd appreciate it. Doing my own research, it seems there can be some potential holds ups with EPA-certification issues and associated fees, and it doesn't seem like this vehicle is old enough to be exempt from this level of import scrutiny.
