This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 300CD Turbodiesel is finished in Anthracite Grey Metallic (172) over Black leather (231) interior. Power is provided by a 3.0L inline-five turbodiesel OM617A engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Additional features include power windows, vacuum locks, cruise control, electric sliding roof, fog lights, and chrome brightwork around the grille, windows, body line, and bumpers with the odometer reading 112,683 miles (TMU). The most recent maintenance in preparation for the sale has been an A/C recharge and an AGM battery. This 300CD is now offered by the selling dealer in Ball Ground, Georgia with trunk mounted safety triangle, spare tire, Bilstein factory jack, first aid kit, an accident-free Carfax report, one key, and a clean Florida title.
The body is finished in Anthracite Grey Metallic (172) with chrome brightwork around the grille, windows, body line, wheel arches, and bumpers. Other features include an electric sliding roof, power antenna, front French yellow fog lamps, and an upright Mercedes-Benz star hood ornament. The seller did a complete repaint in the factory color several years ago. The rear glass is showing signs of delamination. All of the glass is the original Saint-Gobain Sekurit glass.
The 14" Bundt alloy wheels are wrapped in 195/70 Michelin Harmony tires on all four corners. Braking is provided by four ATE disc brakes. The tire sidewalls exhibit age related cracking, but reportedly drive well via the provided driving video. A full sized spare is photographed in the trunk.
The interior is upholstered in Black leather (231) and complemented by zebrano wood accents on the center console and dash. The wood appears in excellent condition with a two inch split in the veneer below the hazard switch. Amenities include power windows, fader, vacuum powered locks, cruise control, automatic climate control, and Becker Mexico cassette stereo. Cracks are transparently shown on the dashboard and slight delamination on the rear driver door card is visible in the gallery. The radio reportedly does not work.
The vinyl steering wheel frames a 85-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and indicators for coolant temperature, oil pressure and fuel level. The odometer shows 112,683 miles (TMU). The needles show a nice orange indicating the car has been kept away from the sun.
This 3.0L inline-five turbodiesel OM617A was factory rated at 125 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to rear wheels through a 722.3 four-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance includes an A/C recharge and new battery. Underside pictures are shown in the gallery.
The included Carfax report shows no accidents since it's first entry in 2000. This C123 300CD Turbo Diesel is now offered by the selling dealer out of Ball Ground, Georgia with trunk mounted safety triangle, spare tire, Bilstein factory jack, first aid kit, an accident-free Carfax report, 1 key, and a clean Florida title.
A video showing a walk around and driving functions has been included by the seller.
With less than 100,000 coupes built out of the 2.7 million W123 production run, these two door executive diesel passenger cars are quite uncommon and niche when you look back in history. The 300CD launched in 1977 and the W123 immediately had a long waiting list with customers clamouring to get in the driver seat of the new executive class Mercedes-Benz. With CAFE overrulings pressing a boot on the throat of performance cars, Mercedes-Benz decided to graft their newest OM617 engine into the C123 cars, which was a shortened wheelbase and chopped W123. When the OM617A debuted in the W116, the S-Class trickledown tech puddled into the engine bay of the 300CD when it got the turbo engine in the series II cars. This is a handsome example with desirable Anthracite paint that has been repainted solving the metallic clear coat issues seen on every W123 of this era. The black leather seats look in great condition as does the zebrano wood. The coupes feel very different from the sedans. If you’re a OM6XX diesel enthusiast, you must tick off owning a pillarless coupe and having a W123 platform car means you have taste and an interest in incredible engineering.

@cmscollect did this sell?
One and a half hours until the auction ends on our Anthracite CD! We will be around for any last minute questions. Thank you and good luck!

With less than 24 hours remaining, we will be on standby for the final hours! Only 10 C123s have crossed the auction platform here on The MB Market which is far less than half of the W123 sedans. These are getting increasingly rarer to find as time passes on and are a great, relatively inexpensive entry point to getting something no one else has on the road with an engine that's actually fun to work on and survive past the apocalypse. We really like these cars and are sad to move on from it. Thanks for looking and we appreciate the interactions with everyone thus far!
@EPKW111 Thank you for the updated comment. Very kind of you to do.
Thank you. I retract my question! I checked with my trusted Authority and he said the same thing.
@EPKW111 It looks like a lip on the factory rubberized undercoating to me.
Picture 253, is that a crack in the subframe near the steering box?
@SammyBoy They’re really cool cars. A diesel luxury coupe is certainly an odd thing. It’s crazy the things Mercedes-Benz did during the EPA driven fuel crisis.
I always forget these exist then I see one and just fall in love all over again.
@SRFOX Blow-by can be caused by numerous things. The most rudimentary visual test is the “cap dance” test that’s synonymous with any OM617/A engine which is why I included it in the video since everyone will ask for that test. It’s an excess of pressure coming from the crankcase on the high compression diesel engine. Valve guides, piston rings, or a clogged breather element. Here’s an informational article on it: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/283262-blow-om617.html

@zoccierampqt you mean some where in the intake arrangement after the turbo, or blow by from the turbo?
Thanks for the early bids so far! We are around to answer any lingering questions that didn't get covered in the auction. Thanks everyone.

@zoccierampqt Not just you. Engine felt and pulled really well but yeah there was some pressure in there.

just me, or the blow seems little more than usual.

We bought the car from an enthusiast gentleman out of Florida in 2014. So we've had the car in the collection for 11 years now. Really like the side profile on the car in the gallery. You can see just how short the wheelbase is. These are really cool things and we LOVE an OM617A.
"True mileage" is a bit of a red herring for these diesels. The engine will run indefinitely when properly maintained. The difference between 112K and e.g., 200K miles is almost meaningless if there are maintenance records.

@Steveo146 you forgot a question mark.
Hey everyone! Welcome to the auction of our C123! This car has been in our collection for quite a few years now and we're just beginning to refresh everything in the warehouse. We really enjoyed our time with this 300CD. Please feel free to view the gallery and watch the video provided. This is a pleasant driver grade car as the pictures honestly reflect as does the video. We will be around for any questions. Undersides will be uploaded in the next day or so. @steveo146 This example didn't come with much in the way of records, so there's no way of telling the true milage since that's really the only way to document miles on these classics. Let us know if there's anything else we can answer. Thanks!
Handsome car here. Having done business with the seller, I just wanted to say Good luck with the auction, these are rarer and rarer to find.
@Steveo146 The listing reflects TMU (True Mileage Unknown). Thanks for the comment.

Good evening, who checks these cars. In 2008 it states that this particular vehicle had over 143,000 miles, in 2008. How did the miles go down too 112,000. What is the actual mileage on this car?
