This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300E 3.4 AMG was ordered in Germany and modified by AMG when new to be an exhibition vehicle for the Mercedes branch in Mannheim. The datacard includes the 990 AMG Version option code which features a complete body kit, OZ wheels, suspension, gauge cluster, exhaust, and 3.4L engine upgrade. Finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) over Black Karo Fabric (071), power is provided by a bored and stroked 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six mated to a 722.5 five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The seller acquired the car from the original owning family in 2024 and has since reconditioned the car with new tires, brakes, fluids, and more approximately 6 months ago. Factory equipment includes self-leveling rear suspension, ASD (Limited Slip Differential), electrically adjustable front seats and windows, air conditioning, heated front seats, sport seats in the front and rear, and sliding roof. The car was previously listed on The MB Market in April of 2025 and has primarily been kept in storage traveling an additional 60km since. Now showing 188k kilometers (~117k miles) from new, this 300E 3.4 AMG is offered for sale with records dating back over 20 years, German TUV documents listing the AMG upgrades, and a clean German title.
The car received AMG bodywork shared with the 6.0 Hammer which includes a sculpted front air dam, side skirts, rear bumper and a three-piece trunk spoiler. The body kit shows original AMG stamps along with dual chrome exhaust tips at the rear. The bodywork is finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199) with all painted chrome and trim including the grille and side molding. Exterior equipment includes front fog lights, a power-adjustable passenger door mirror, a power tilt/slide sunroof, an automatic antenna, and central locking. The seller had the car repainted in its original color last year to properly correct scratches and other normal wear over the cars life. No signs of rust or damage are present on the body.
The paint-matched 3-piece 17” AMG Aero III wheels by OZ Racing come fitted with a set of new Fulda Sport Control tires which measure 235/45 on all four corners and show 2024 date codes. The wheels were professionally refinished in 2024 along with the installation of new front brake pads and rotors. ASR slip control and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are fitted as standard. The original AMG full exhaust is installed along with AMG suspension with photos provided in the gallery.
The front and rear sport seats are trimmed in Black Karo Fabric (071) and features patterned inserts. Burl Walnut wood trim adorns the center console, gear selector, dashboard, steering wheel and door panels. The front seats are heated and power adjustable along with the passenger side mirror. Additional interior appointments include automatic climate control, cruise control, and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt head unit. The seller retrofitted a matching front armrest in factory matching fabric. The car was originally ordered with non-tinted glass and no rear headrests. The original owner had the side windows replaced with factory tinted and heat-insulating glass. The factory air conditioning has been tested and reported to be fully functional.
The 390mm Sport Design leather steering wheel fronts an AMG-specific gauge cluster with a central 280-km/h speedometer along with an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 188k km from new, approximately 117k miles.
The original 3.0-liter M104 inline-six was bored and stroked to 3.4 liters by AMG in Germany and fitted with custom AMG camshafts which help the engine produce 268 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 722.5 five-speed automatic transmission with ASD (Limited Slip Differential). The seller performed a full service on the car which included a flushing all fluids, new tires, a differential overhaul and reseal, new battery, and new front brake rotors and pads. AMG stickers denoting the engine modifications are found on the valve cover and radiator support. Underbody photos provided by the seller show no signs of leaks or corrosion.
The car comes with partial service records dating back over 20 years including a stamped service booklet and TUV documentation of the AMG modifications. Originally ordered for the Mannheim branch in Germany, the car was configured as an exhibition vehicle for Mercedes. The car has since remained in Germany with the original owning family until being acquired by the seller in 2024. The datacard is marked with the 990 AMG version option code indicating its intended AMG conversion from new.
The seller has provided the following videos:
Perhaps the most bang-for-your-buck to be had today in the collector car world, the W124 AMG 990 option code cars offers authentic premerger AMG goodness without the multi-six figure price tag of a 6.0L Hammer while looking identical. The premerger era of AMG was the wild west of tuning and produced some of the most interesting cars. AMG developed the legendary Hammer 6.0L version of this car which was record-breaking at the time, beating even the most exotic of sports cars. This unique W124 3.4L was built by AMG Germany and comes complete with all the most desirable equipment including the paint-matched multi-piece OZ Aero III wheels, an AMG gauge cluster, AMG exhaust, AMG suspension, additional interior wood, and the complete AMG body kit including bumpers, side skirts and iconic three-piece spoiler. The bored and stroked 3.4-liter M104 delivers an impressive 268 horsepower in a time when other straight sixes struggled to break 200. Interestingly, this car was ordered with a factory 722.5 five-speed automatic whereas nearly all others received the four-speed. Other interesting factory options include ASD (Limited Slip Differential) and self-leveling suspension.
The 990 option code on the datacard is also an enormous value add for future collectibility and authenticates the car as a true AMG. As if that wasn't enough, this AMG's history has been well-documented from single-family ownership between 1992-2024, only transferring title between the owner's personal name, business, and wife's name. Most interestingly, the car was configured as an exhibition vehicle for the Mercedes branch in Mannheim; quite the showroom masterpiece. After proper reconditioning and servicing, this rare W124 AMG is now ready for a new home and we anticipate a thoroughly documented spec like this will prove to be a great investment down the road.

@GoBoGo https://www.lastvin.com/vin/8vKkQA8ZD1DEyprWo The last Code 990. Check the VIN decoder. WDB1240311B570596 The data card shows up the codes and the last one is the important one :-)
@TinoAndAlex Understood about the leather, thanks for the info! I am still confused with the 990 (I understand the concept and have always seen the descriptor of the 990/AMG tie-in, but I am not seeing where it actually shows 990--I just see the images of the VIN with 980 above--where is the 990 showing?) I'm not questioning the provenance by the way, literally I am just curious where I should be looking to see 990! I am a true W124 lover; my old 91 300D made it over 278K miles in our family/extended family.
@GoBoGo Hi Code 990 means "AMG Komplettfahrzeug" like it was ordered here. It includes, that the whole car was tuned by AMG before delivered to a branch or customer. Leather was always an option in Germany. Even a W140 600SEL was equipped with Velours. For leather you paid extra. In the early 90ies this car was exceptional cool and it still is 34 years later. Fun fact: for a good equipped 190E 3.2 AMG or a 300E-24V 3.4L AMG you were able to buy a 500SEL! That was crazy.
LOVELY car; another fantasy vehicle... I do have a question--there is much talk about the "990" code but all I see is 980--just curious what that means, etc.? And I meant to ask this on other auctions as well--why is it most US "luxury" cars wear leather interiors and most of the actual Euro versions seem to prefer cloth upholstery? Regardless, this is awesome and if only I had scored more than 1 number on my Powerball ticket(s)! (actually, I did win $4 but that's not going to help here!) GLWTA!
@Youngclassicamg could legit not be more accurate but some people just don’t know.

Paint meter readings on premergers are irrelevant if you know how pre-mergers were built and painted back in the day im sure any respray would be much better than those back then haha.

@WDB748372 The bumpers had paint peeling. Show me one pre merger AMG with original paint on the bumpers! The whole car is repainted. I wrote that we did repaints because of scratches. I don't know how they came into the car and it doesn't matter to me, because the car has no single accidents, perfect gaps and absolutely no rust. I added the pics about the spots especially you asked for. The car has double paint thickness all around. What do you think you will see in a video more than in high resolution pictures. I don't get that, but I can do another additional video for you if necessary. If you don't trust me or my description, feel free to send an inspector. The car is in Quakenbrück, Germany. Thank you
Someone scratched bumpers, fenders, doors, on both sides? I'm assuming the roof, quarter panels, and trunk are original. Can you please provide paint measurements on all panels? Are you not able to provide a video?
Additional photos have been added to the gallery.
I think it is only the 2.5% as it is a used car and it is over 25years old. I also think private sale is exempt. ????

@Youngclassicamg Hello It has been 2.5% for >25 year old cars, but as far as I know, they raised it for EU countries to 15%. If the buyer is from America, maybe there are ways to resell it to e.g. Switzerland and from Switzerland to USA, or UAE etc. Or it stays in my storage until uncle Sam calms down..... I will support the buyer. Closed transport in Germany and export declaration is included in auction price.
@WDB748372 Hello, The head gasket is all right. I don't know, if it was replaced by the previous owner (since 1992), because the invoices/ service records don't fulfill the whole time period of the family ownership. What I can say is that the head is not losing any fluids and the engine is running super smooth (cold and warm). The reason for the good condition of engine and transmission is the way the (now 86 year old) owner droves the car. It was always garage kept, never driven in winter and only long trips to their holiday residence, means it stood dry and warm or drove long distances with an intelligent experienced driver, who owns a successful software security company, which he still runs with 86, awesome guy :-) ! We repainted the car because of some scratches all around the doors and fenders (someone scratched it with a key or something, no wear). We repainted the fenders, doors, bonnet and front/ rear bumpers. The paintjob is done very professional, the paint is like a mirror! Check the pictures please. We didn't repaint the molding parts and yes, the side skirts (front end) show up white stone chips, which we didn't touch. Driving 5000 miles would create new ones. The wood trim is in excellent shape, there are no clearcoat cracks, just minimal scratches around the switches. I will add some additional pictures to show the stone chips at the front of the side skirts and the beautiful wood trim. Thank you
How much will tariffs cost when importing this to the U.S
At this mileage has the head gasket been replaced? There are a few things I noticed in the video that I can't find close enough photos on; At 0:23, the paint seems to be scuffed on the rocker panel (just behind the front wheel) I'm assuming from road debris. Description mentions the car being repainted. Was it not the entire car? Any photos during the repaint process or prior to it? At 0:48, I noticed the arm rest section of the wood trim is cracked. Again can't find photos to double check. Are there any other cracks on any of the wood trims? With all that being said, can you just provide an unedited, non-cinematic walkaround video. I'd also like to get a better look at the repaint quality.
What a car... stunning in every way.
Stunning 🤩
